Greatest Desire, Re-write. part One

She sat there staring at the wall. She had already counted the ceiling tiles. A nurse came in just as she finished her math, a forced smile plastered to her face.1

"You may come through now" the nurse said to her.2

The girl trudged forward, dragging her feet and humming to herself. She couldn't believe they had finally worked it out. "Took them long enough", she thought.3

The nurse led her to the same room as she did every week. White, bright and reeking of disinfectant. Though the light was off, the sun shone dangerously bright through the window. As she walked in, the nurse close behind her, Katy shaded her face and went to close the blinds.4

“Now now.” The nurse said, shaking her head. “I need to see what I am doing.”5

The nurse, whose name was Karen, turned on the light switch and walked over to the desk, Katy sitting in the chair opposite. Her brown hair had grown, but still had its tips highlighted red and purple.6

The nurse sat down got out some papers and fiddled with her clipboard a moment, before beginning the interview by noting the time. “How are you feeling today, Katy?”7

“How the hell d’ya think?” She replied. Karen was nice enough, but Katy couldn’t control her moods. Her disorder.8

“I only asked a question.” Karen replied.9

“Well the answer will be the same as last week. Stupid question”. was the reply that came.10

She was just an ordinary girl. Long hair, brown eyes, tall, thin, liked music, animals, photography, computer games, books, astronomy and art. She had a few friends, and she had temper tantrums. Just like any other teenager.11

She also had a history of flashbacks, black-outs, hearing voices and self-harming.12

Normal.13

Here, she was safe. And here, she hoped she'd meet people of like mind. The sane few who are cuaght speaking out. In a world where more people pay money to vote in the X factor than vote for the government for free, she felt she was more sane than most.14

But here she was; in the asylum. 15

And here, she found her sactuary.16
