"Red rover, red rover send Mikey right over!" As he runs to the chain of arms ahead of him, his feet pounding the green grass, looking up at the blue sky and the bright yellow sun.1
He hasn't played this game since he was a kid, but since he's been at bible camp lots of things have been happening to him that he would never imagine.2
Before now Mikeys prioritys included Girls, sex, and partying with his friends. With the occasional run in with the cops over and over again for toilet papering the rival highschool. 3
I guess he never knew why he did those things. And being here at Camp Bethany would completely change his outlook on life. He found his true colours here. He found where he fits in, and that's with god. 4
He was never really accepted at school with the "In-Crowd" but he did have his own group of friends. Who were complete losers. And were in trouble all the time.5
He knew that the things he was doing were in bad judgment, but he felt as if he didnt participate hed lose his loser friends and would be left with no one.6
When his mom suggested that he take 2 weeks out of his "busy" summer to go to bible camp, he thought she had really flipped her wig this time.7
But after he got here, as soon as he stepped off of the bus, he knew this would be the best two weeks of his life. when he got off the bus he felt a sense of security and stability, and acceptance. And he hasn't felt that in a long time.8
He could feel the sweat beating off of his brow, and hear the voices "Come on mikey you can do it!" When he thought he didn't have energy to bust through that chain of arms, he closed his eyes and asked the big man upstairs.9
"If you give me the strength i'll turn my life around"10
He busted through the chain of arms so hard that the guys were rubbing their forearms when it was all over.11
After Mikey apoligized for going so hard, he heard a voice call his name. He turned around and it was his youth pastor.12
"Pastor Richard, Hi."13
"Hello son, is everything okay here?"14
"Yes sir, everything fine."15
"You know Mikey these past two weeks with you have been a learning experience for me, I never really knew you before just when you were a small child and your mother would bring you to the service some sundays. But you have grown into a fine young man. I'm happy to see you've turned your ife around."16
As Pastor Richard walked away Mikey looked up to the sky and smiled. The sun was warm, and he felt almost as if he was being hugged.17
He was glad to have faith in himself again.

This is a feel good type of story. Enjoyable to read and nice to think about. You could possibly make it more effective by adding a little detail. For instance, when he got off the bus, what was the thing that happened that made the environment so welcoming for him. It is obvious that some things got his attention as a result of being at church camp, but not a lot of detail as to what the something was or how it came about during the two weeks.
Still, I enjoyed reading it. It left me with a smile and a warm heart.
Best of luck in the contest. -
