Farm

Kaira ran down the street, trying to beat the clock.  1

"I'm to be late! My boss is going to kill-" Oomph. Kaira ran head first into someone coming out of an alley and landed straight on her butt. "Ow..." she muttered. 2

"Are you alright, miss?" The man asked. 3

"Physically, I'm fine. But I am about to get fired," Kaira, said looking at her watch. It was a minute to eight. "How far do you think I can run in a minute?" she asked him. 4

"Not far. A block? Maybe two, if you sprinted." 5

"Well, I am officially fired." Kaira sighed as she stood up and dusted herself off.  6

"Do you know how to work with animals?" The guy asked. 7

"Excuse me?" 8

"I can get you a job on my farm. My name is Robert Hicks. I own a farm just outside of town, and our farm hand just quit, so do you want the job?" Robert explained. 9

"If you can explain the basics to me, I can learn from experience," she said. 10

"It's a deal," Robert said. 11

AT THE FARM      "So this is Bessie. She is our oldest cow. Your job is to wash her and brush her. Can you do that?" Robert asked her, handing her a brush.    "I'm sure I can." Kaira started brushing Bessie. When she walked around to grab the hose from in front of Bessie, the cow sneezed and got slobber all over her.    "Ewww!!!!!!!" Kaira screamed.    "Let's try the chickens," Robert suggested, leading her over to the chicken coop. That was a fiasco from the start. When Kaira entered the yard, six or seven chickens started pecking at her feet. She moved, and they followed. It ended with her being chased around the chicken pen.     "Let's not try the horses today. You can go home and clean off, and we'll start fresh tomorrow," Robert said optimistically. Kaira stared at him like he was insane, but decided to at least go home. She sighed as she left the farm, hoping tomorrow wouldn't be so bad.   13

  • I sense that this story isn't finished yet. A quick edit: "I'm (going) to be late!"

I hope it's not finished because it just started and didn't quite get anywhere...

Thanks for entering and good luck.

  • LoL, a fun and entertaining story. Sort of makes me wonder what the farmers motivation is though. He seems very patient with a "city slicker" type. Especially if he has been farming very long.

Still, it was fun to read. Once more, welcome to StoryWrite
