Prologue 2
My name is Kenna. I am a hybrid, half vampire half lycan. Before I was turned I was a normal teenager. I liked everything a normal teenage should like. But on an overcast winter day my friend Dani and I encountered two strangers that would change our lives forever. Eripmav and Mordric, two hybrids, changed us into what we are today. This is our story.3
Chapter 14
It was an overcast winter day and no one seemed interested in going outside. Kenna, a long dark haired brunette of sixteen, was one of the few who desired to enjoy her day outside. She sat Indian style on a bolder in one of the parks near her house waiting for her friend Danielle, better known as Dani, to join. She had known Dani for a while and over time they both became inseparable. The wind whistled silently playing with strands of Kenna’s hair that had follow out of her plait. A few feet away about a yard from her, she could see Dani jogging toward her. Her short boyish dark brunette hair flopped everywhere sometimes making it go in her face. Kenna waved hello and beckoned her over to where she sat. Dani put her hand on her hips and breathed slowly. Her green, brown and black cargo pants stuck to her ankles making them look like parachute pants. Her black shirt that read ‘I point and laugh’ clung to her body shaping some of her abdomen.
“You ok you seem out of breathe?” Dani looked at Kenna and smirked setting Kenna on a laugh spasm. She patted a spot beside her on the rock communicating for Dani to take a seat. “How far did you run?” Dani climbed onto the rock and sat Indian style breathing slowly.
“I went to your house first to see if you were there but your mom told me you went to the park. So I ran from your house here. Now I feel like I am going to die.” Kenna smiled and patted her friends back.
“I’ll plan your funeral.” Dani laughed and looked at the clouds. Gray, white and almost black clouds covered the sky like a blanket not showing the sun at all. “Oh you wanted to tell me something over the phone, but you had to go before you could tell me.” Dani looked at Kenna and nodded.
“Oh yeah I totally forgot. Ok you know how there are vampires like Count Dracula? You know that turn into bats, drink blood, and sleep in a coffin that kind of stuff. Well there are actually two types of vampires. The second one is like Edward Cullen, you know in Twilight? Well those vampires can be in the sun light, drink blood, don’t turn into bats, don’t sleep in coffins and aren’t afraid of garlic.” Kenna listened intently.
“I thought you already told that to me?” Dani stopped for a moment and thought. Then she looked back at Yvette and shook her head.
“Yeah I did. Sorry, I am so stupid! Ah.” Kenna laughed then looked at the clouds. They seemed to be getting dark every moment, which probably meant rain. Dani tapped her friend on the shoulder, drawing her attention. “I was actually going to tell you about werewolves. You know how lycans are portrayed like half man half wolf, like in the old Wolf man movie? Well they’re wrong, when a lycan changes they turn into a full blown out wolf. Only they are a lot bigger then normal wolves. They are like up to my hip. Plus they can change into a wolf when ever they want” Dani stood up to show Kenna. The size Dani showed was much bigger than an ordinary wolf. There had to be a full foot between a regular wolf and a lycan.
“Wow that’s pretty big. How did you find out about this?” Dani sat back down and shrugged her shoulders.
“A book I check out from the library. It was called like Beast: the encyclopedia of monsters. It was quite interesting actually.” Kenna nodded then turned to her friend.
“You know vampires and lycan aren’t real right?” Dani nodded and began studying her finger nails intently.
“Yeah I know, just like you know genies, elves, unicorns that find of stuff aren’t real.” Kenna nodded.
“I know I just wanted to see where you were at with the whole believing stuff.” Dani smiled and looked at the clouds, by now they were dark gray and droplets of water were coming down.
“We better head home, Dani, its going to start pouring soon.” Dani shook her head and stopped Nichole from leaving.
“If we leave now, we’ll be drenched with water when we get home. Follow me I know someplace where we can stay dry.” Dani sprinted off not bothering to check if Yvette was following. She rolled her eyes and began following Dani.
“Dani wait up, I can’t catch up to you.” She yelled. Kenna stopped and began to breathe slowly. She was out of breath and her hair had almost fully come out of her plait making it surround her face. A crunch of leaves directed her attention to the forest that was near the park. She walked a little closer to see what kind of animal it might be. When she was almost half a foot close to where the sound came from, she saw a pair of almost white blue eyes that had its pupils slits. Kenna frightened by the site began running away toward the direction she saw Dani run.
“There you are what happened?” Dani asked inside a dry but dark cave. Kenna walked inside and sat down next to Dani hugging herself to keep the cold out.
“I got tired and stopped for a moment.” Dani nodded and looked outside where it began to rain harder. “Dani I saw something really strange.” Dani turned to her friend and looked at her interested.
“What’d you see?” Kenna remained quiet for a moment then looked at Dani, fear was plainly seen in her eyes.
“I saw some type of creature in the forest with like white blue eyes and its pupil were some how slits, like a cats.” Dani turned away and began to pout. “What’s the matter?” Kenna asked seeing her friend sad.
“You get to see all the cool stuff.” Kenna shook her head bringing her knees to her chest.
“I wouldn’t call seeing frightening eyes cool.” Dani nodded. The girls were both quiet listening to the rain pour down on the park.
“Wouldn’t it be cool if vampires and lycans were real?” Kenna looked at her friend then back at the outside of the cave.
“No not really. I mean think about it. If you went outside you could either be sucked of blood by a vampire or torn apart by a lycan. Not the safest things to wander around.” Before Dani could answer, both of the girls spotted an unknown figure running toward them. “Who’s that?” Dani shrugged her shoulders. When the stranger came into the cave and joined the girls, they were surprised to find a boy with shaggy blonde hair and light blue eyes. His muscular build made Kenna think he played some kind of hard sport.
“You shouldn’t be here when its raining, you should be home.” Dani and Kenna looked up at the strange boy not answering him at once. Dani stood up and faced the boy.
“We only came in here to get out of the rain. If we walked home we would have been drenched in water by the time we got there.” The boy was quiet for a moment then knelt down and sat on his heels.
“I know a place you can come and stay dry but I can only keep you there till the rain stops.” Dani looked at Kenna.
“What do you think?” Kenna looked at Dani then at the stranger before her. There was uneasiness about the whole thing but if it was the only way to stay dry and rain free then why not. Yvette nodded and stood up to her full height.
“Alright, there’s no other choice we have.” The boy stood up too and walked to the opening of the cave. He looked outside for a moment and then began walking. “Wait, I don’t mean to be nosy or anything but if we’re following you to this place you’re bringing us would it be considerate to offer your name?” the stranger stopped and looked at Kenna. His hair hung in his face, every strand of it dripping with water.
“My name is Eripmav, you may call me Erim.” Dani and Kenna walked out in the rain following Erim through the forest.
“What is that like French or something?” Dani asked picking her way through the trees and bushes.
“It’s actually Irish, it’s pronounced Erin and it means peace loving.” Dani walked beside Kenna making her friend feel a little less uneasy. “Would you like to know what your names mean?” Kenna and Dani followed Erim’s every step so not to slip and hurt themselves. The rain made it difficult to walk through the wood’s muddy floor. Twice Dani had almost fallen on the ground.
“What you know like what every name means or something?” Kenna asked. Erim walked gracefully through the woods not even stumbling. It appeared to them that Erim knew the forest like the back of his hand.
“You could say that. I actually take an interest in reading the meanings of names. It sometimes reveals a little about the person.” Dani listened to what Erim said.
“Ok go ahead tell us what our names mean.” Erim continued walking through the muddy terrain glancing every once in a while to check if the girls were still following.
“Alright, but first you must tell me your names.” Erim said stopping abruptly and turning to look at the girls. Dani and Kenna came to a sudden stop. Kenna’s foot slid from under her making her fall. She closed her eyes. Feeling no squishy substance under her she slowly opened her eyes. Half her body was hovering over a pool of mud while here feet were out straight. An arm around her waist had narrowly saved her from a mud mess. “Are you alright?” Kenna turned her gaze from the mud pool and found herself looking into the eyes of Erim. He lifted her back up onto her feet and stepped away.
“Yeah I’m fine.” Erim looked at Dani.
“Are you alright?” Dani nodded looking at Kenna. Kenna looked at her friend and smiled.
“So where were we?” Dani asked. Erim assured that Dani and Kenna were alright, turned around and began walking through the woods.
“If I am not mistaken you both were going to tell me your names so that I in turn would tell you the meaning of them.” Kenna followed Dani and Erim through the woods, but from the miner incident her ankle must have bent the wrong way. Not wanting to be a bother by making them stop again, Nichole continued walking but inside was hurting.
“My name is Danielle but people have known to call me Dani.” Erim was quiet for a moment then responded in a cheerful manner.
“Your name is Hebrew and French and it means judged by God.” Dani smiled and looked at Nichole.
“Tell him your name.” Kenna smiled weakly.
“My name is Kenna Gabrielle. I wasn’t sure if you wanted my full name or just my first.” Erim shrugged.
“It doesn’t offend me.” Erim was quiet for a while not saying a thing only making a path for the girls. Finally Erim spoke calmly. “Your first name is Scottish and it means born of fire. Your second name is French and Hebrew for strong. So you are a strong girl born of fire. Am I correct?” Erim asked stopping to turn and look at Kenna. She nodded. Her middle names described her perfectly. She was strong mentally and physically but her first name confused her.
“Yes. I am strong literally and figuratively, but my first name is confusing.”Erim nodded.
“Your first name probably means you have a fiery spirit.”Kenna nodded contemplating the meaning. Dani nudged Kenna gently to get her attention.
“Your names have cool meanings.” Dani whispered. Kenna smiled and gently squeezed Dani’s hand.
“Thanks yours is cool too.” Dani thought for a moment the looked at Erim.
“Erim what does Marie mean?” Erim was silent for a moment then glanced at Dani.
“It is French for Mary. It means star of the sea and sea of bitterness. Take your pick.” Dani nodded. Hours had past and still the rain continued to pour. The tiny group had walked for a while, now Dani and Kenna were getting tired. Their legs felt like someone had taken their leg muscles and pulled them till they were as long as route 66.
“Are we almost there?” Dani asked. Erim glanced at her through the corner of his eye then looked back ahead.
“Yes we are almost there.” Kenna crossed her arms. Instead of just being entirely wet and sore from walking, she was also tired and famished. After about thirty minutes Erim, Kenna and Dani stepped into a huge meadow. On the lot sat a huge brick mansion with a stone walk way that led to the front door. Assortments of trees and bushes decorated the front yard. A jeep Cherokee sat in the drive way along with a red mustang, black hummer and a green cooper. Erim turned to the girls and smiled gently. “Care to join me?” Erim asked. Without waiting for an answer he walked toward the house.
“Nice place.” Kenna commented. Dani nodded.
“We better get inside.” Dani said. Her body shaking from the wet clothes she wore. Kenna nodded and began walking toward the house. When they reached the door, Erim took out a thin silver key and unlocked the door. A burst of warm air greeted the girls calling them in. Erim opened the door wide letting Kenna and Dani to walk in. When they both walked in, they were amazed to find that the house was just as beautiful as it was outside. There was an entry way that looked like it came out from the medieval times. An old antique staircase lay to the left winding up to the second floor. A small oak table sat in the middle of the entrée way with a bowl on it to keep keys, money, and basically miscellaneous stuff. On the floor was mosaic tile that made a picture of some sort but the girls didn’t have time to see it. To the right of the entrée hall was a huge nicely furnished living room. A brown leather couch and a love seat were the main seating in the room. A huge white furred carpet was on the floor with a glass top table in the middle. A flat screen TV was on the wall and a glass door cabinet was below it holding movies, coasters for drinks and the TV remotes. Strait ahead of the entrée hall was a cozy kitchen with everything you could imagine a kitchen needed. A stainless steal fridge, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, espresso machine, double sink, everything. An oak table and six matching chairs were in the next room, the dining room. Kenna and Dani looked around amazed; it looked like a house out of the movies.
“Wow! I could so live here!” Erim came in and shut the door. Erim walked to the foot of the stairs and called his newly arrived guests.
“If you will follow me, I will gladly show you to your individual rooms.” Kenna went to the foot of the stairs and began following Erim up the ancient steps. Dani lagged behind trying to take as much in as her eyes would allow. Glancing at the floor, Dani looked down at the mosaic tile. A border of roses and thorns outlined the main picture and three figures stood in it. “Dani, please follow.” Erim called down from the tenth step. Dani looked at Erim and Kenna watching her.
“Yeah ok.” Dani jogged up the stairs finally catching up to Erim and Kenna. When they all reached the second floor, Erim stopped in front of a door and opened it.
“This will be your room Dani.” Erim said. They all walked into the room. The room was soft lavender and had a huge oak canopy bed. A blazing fire crackled and popped in the fire place. A couple of book shelves lined one of the walls. Old pictures of a forest and seas hung on the wall.
“Wow, Erim you have like the best house in the world. Well that I’ve seen anyway.” Erim smiled and nodded thanks to Dani.
“I hope you enjoy it.” Erim shut the door leaving Dani wandering around the room. “On to the next room then?” Kenna nodded and looked at her feet. She felt peculiar and clumsy in front of this boy. She had never been around a guy this much. She prayed that she didn’t do anything embarrassing or stupid. Before Kenna knew it though they were already in front of the next bedroom door. Erim opened the door to the second room. The room was a red rose color and it too had an oak canopy bed except it was black. An Oriental rug sat on the ground along with a black leather chair and a black side table with a bowl of red apples, cherries and pomegranates in it. Double French doors led to a balcony that over looked a beautiful rose garden, with every color rose you could think of. Pictures of red roses and the sea hung on the wall. Several shelves of books lined a wall. Kenna walked in amazed at the beauty of such a room.
“It’s beautiful. I’ve only seen rooms like these in magazines and read only half of what this room is in books.” Erim joined Kenna in the room and examined the contents making sure they were in their place. “Thank you I absolutely love it.”Erim looked at Kenna and into her dark brown eyes, like a knife they pierced him, it seemed like she was looking into his soul without her knowledge of it. He smiled and bowed his head. It appeared to Kenna, that a smiled came easy to Erim, like throwing a ball.
“I appreciate your thankfulness but I must leave you and your friend. If you both need anything, anything at all, please let me know.” Erim walked out of the room. Kenna looked around for something to dry herself off with but there was nothing. There was no dry close to change into at all.
“Erim,” Kenna whispered to herself. To her ears she sounded like a little kid calling for its parents. She walked toward the fire and warmed herself by it.
“Yes?” Kenna spun around frightened toppling over the side table and bowl of fruits. Kenna tried to pick the mess up but only managed to put one piece of fruit back in the bowl before she herself fell down. Her face turned bright red from such a scene. Erim pushed the table and fruit away so he could get to Kenna. “Are you alright?” Kenna turned beet red and tried to stand up. Erim took hold of her left arm and hoisted her up. “Are you alright?” Erim repeated.
“Yes I’m fine, I was just clumsy.” Erim nodded and then began picking up the mess.
“I’m sorry I scared you. That wasn’t my intention.” Kenna walked over to the bed and sat down.
“Of course it wasn’t.” Erim finally finished cleaning up the mess and sat down next to Kenna.
“Are you sure you’re alright?” Kenna nodded. “Good, now you called me?” Kenna looked at Erim queerly then nodded.
“Uh yeah I was wondering if you might have some dry clothes I could change into.” Erim nodded.
“Oh yes of course I’m sorry I’ll be right back with some for you and your friend.” Erim jumped up leaving the room, letting Kenna think about what a fool she was. To get her mind off the embarrassing incident she went over to the shelves of books and scanned the titles.
“Hey Kenna. Wow you totally got the nicer room, jealous.” Kenna turned to look at her friend. She smiled tired from the long walk they had done.
“Erim went to get some dry clothes for us.” Dani nodded and looked around the room.
“I am so tired I could fall asleep upside down.” Kenna went to the bed sat down and pulled her feet off the floor to lie down on the soft bed. She gently pulled off her glasses and closed her eyes.
“So what do you think of this place Kenna? Kenna?” Dani turned toward her friend and found her asleep. Erim walked into the room surprised to see Dani.
“Oh I was just going to your room. I have some dry clothes for you to change in.” He handed her some jeans and a long sleeve shirt. Dani nodded and walked out of the room. She headed to her room and entered. Dropping the clothes on the floor next to her bed, she climbed in and fell asleep as quickly as Kenna. 5
Erim placed the folded clothes on the leather chair and walked to Kenna. She had curled in a tight ball probably cold. He went out to the wall and opened the lining closet grabbing a big blanket. Carrying the blanket in his hand, He walked to the bed and put the blanket over her.
“Who is she?” a strong firm voice asked. Erim turned around to find a tall boy with a brown haired butch. His strong build made him look like a foot ball player. His eyes a dark blue watched Erim quietly.
“Her name is Kenna Gabrielle; her friend is in the first room. Her name is Danielle Marie, but she is known as Dani.” The stranger rolled his eyes and walked into the room.
“Why are they here? What you needed a girl friend?” Erim glared at him.
“No, they needed a place to stay till the rain stopped. Obviously now they will have to stay here till morning.” The stranger looked at Kenna. He raised his eyebrows and nodded.
“I would use that excuse too. “The stranger walked to the fire place and leaned on the mantel. Erim nodded watched Kenna for a moment. “You know the rule Erim.” Erim looked at the stranger while he watched the fire flicker.
“I know the rule, but can’t we spare them. They must have families. Taking them away from their families would ruin them.” The stranger shrugged and turned toward Erim.
“Not my problem. We need to follow the rules, even if they do have family. They made their choice when they came with you.” Erim looked back at Kenna.
“Fine. I will get this one if you get the other.” The stranger nodded and left the room. Erim looked back at Kenna and closed his eyes painfully. “I’m sorry Kenna.”6
The young stranger opened the door to Dani’s room quietly so as not to disturb her. Walking into the dark room he looked around the room. Seeing her asleep on the bed, he walked over barely making a sound. He saw her asleep breathing lowly, her chest rising up and down. Her hair surrounded her face making her skin appear to be white. Dani stirred and turned over, letting him only see her back. He stepped back a little, his eyes still fixed on her. Erim came in the room and wiped his mouth.
“It is done. Are you?” The new arrival looked at Erim then back at Dani. Erim smirked and looked at the fire. “Not so easy is it?” The visitor looked at Erim then walked over and bent his head next to Dani’s neck. Erim turned away and walked out into the hall. Glancing at the hall clock it read 11:52 pm. It was almost morning. The stranger joined Erim in the hall and closed the door.
“It is done.”7
Chapter 28
Dani opened here eyes and yawned stretching her arms and legs. She sat up slowly and looked around. The events from the past night flooded her mind. She was reminded of the mosaic tile floor and the strange picture that was there. Though she hadn’t seen it, she knew there was something strange about it. Looking at the watch on her wrist that read 10:15, she climbed out of bed and picked up the clothes she dropped on the floor the night before. Taking off the stiff damp close she tossed them on the bed and slipped on the dry ones. She looked around for a brush but none could be found. Thinking that Kenna may have one in her room, she walked out to the hall and knocked on the door. No answer came at first but when she knocked again foot steps approached the door and opened it. Kenna looked at her friend and opened the door wide so as to let Dani in.
“Morning, I am sorry I didn’t answer immediately, I was on the balcony.” Dani shrugged and walked in.
“That’s ok. Do you have a brush I could barrow?” Kenna walked to the bed and took a red handled brush off it.
“Yeah let me just brush my hair quickly and I’ll give it to you.” Dani nodded and stepped on to the balcony looking at the gorgeous rose garden. Every color of roses could be seen in the garden. Trees accompanied roses. There where weeping willows, maple and apple trees. While looking at the magnificent garden something caught Dani’s eyes. Looking to her left was a man about her age. He looked to be about 6’2 with a buzz cut. His hair was a medium brown though it was cut very short. He had a strong build that looked like he lifted weights. His back was turned to her making her picture what he must look like from the front. A short scream came from inside of the room behind her. Dani turned around to see what was the matter but then turned back to find out who the strange man was. To her disappointment he was gone. Dani signed and walked back in the room. Kenna stood in front of the mirror studying her neck.
“Ok I know your sister likes looking in the mirror but you? Wow I’m surprised.” Kenna looked at Dani concerned.
“I have a bite on my neck!” Dani rolled her eyes and came over to Kenna.
“It’s probably just a mosquito bite.” Kenna shook her head and pulled her hair back to reveal two small puncture holes in her skin near the jugular vein. Dani looked closely at the mark. She tried to think of any possible animal that could have done this. Was it a vampire bat? No bats, especially vampire bats don’t live here. Was it two mosquitoes? Possibly, but the doors were closed, if she remembered. She thought of every type of animal but only one thing came back in her mind over and over again. Vampire. Dani looked at Kenna seriously. “I think, and don’t judge me, but I think it was a vampire.” Nichole looked at Dani like she was insane.
“Vampires?! That’s what you think? Dani vampires aren’t even real!”
“Actually,” said a voice behind them “She is partially right.” Kenna and Dani looked at the owner of the voice. It was the guy Dani saw in the garden. To her joy she found that he was very good-looking. He had chiseled features that Dani thought reminded her of a roman athlete. His eyes were a striking dark blue that when the sun caught them they looked even darker. Unlike Erim’s’ smile which was more of gentleness and kindness, this man’s was more of teasing like he always knew something that you wouldn’t.
“What do you mean she’s partially right? Kenna asked. The man, who had been leaning on the door frame pushed himself off and walked toward the girls.
“What he means is that it is time for you two to follow us downstairs to the living room.” Erim stepped inside the room and looked at the stranger. He nodded at him then looked at the girls. “Follow me.” He turned leaving with Dani and this unknown person following him. Kenna stood firm and glared at Erim.
“Is it customary for you to come in a room, demand we go down stairs, bring a stranger in here not bothering to give us his name and then leave!?” Anger touched her voice. Erim and the other two stopped and looked at Kenna. He walked back in the room and came up to her.
“His name is..” The stranger put a hand on Erim’s shoulder to stop him.
“Mordric Wolf, this is my brother Eripmav Wolf. We own this quaint cottage and right now we own the room you are at the time staying in. We let you stay in our house sleep in our bed. Now do you have a problem with that?” Mordric asked sarcastically. Kenna crossed her arms and smiled. She waved him over to come closer. Mordric moved closer and was almost touching noses with her. When Mordric was as close as possible, Kenna spit in his face making him back away quickly. Erim coughed down a laugh, while Dani started to laugh hysterically. Kenna smiled wide.
“Now I don’t have a problem with it.” She walked out of the room and down the stairs. Dani quickly followed her leaving Mordric and Erim alone for a moment.
“Witch!” he spit wiping his face of her saliva. Erim walked over to his brother and chuckled.
“You did talk to her a little offensive.” Mordric wiped his hand on his pant leg and looked at his brother.
“Yeah well you can have her! Does she act like this normally?” Erim shook his head.
“Not that I’ve seen. She is quite sweet actually.” Mordric nodded seriously.
“She must be turning fast then. You know once someone is turned the only thing to activate it is high emotion.” Before Erim could answer a clatter of glass echoed through the house. Erim rushed out of the room with Mordric and down the stairs to where the clatter of glass was heard. When they entered the living room, the love seat was upside down and the glass on the glass top table was smashed. Dani stood a few feet away with her eyes locked on something. Fear was plainly seen in her eyes like the nose on her face. Erim and Mordric followed Dani’s gaze to find a huge black wolf with touches of brown snarling at them.
“Where’s Kenna?” Erim asked urgently. Dani slowly looked at Erim frightened. She was quiet not answering Erim. Erim looked back at the wolf that still bared his teeth and walked slowly to it.
“Erim what are you doing?” Mordric tried to pull Erim back but he brushed his hand away.
“Stay with Dani.” Mordric walked quickly over to Dani and put a hand on her shoulder. Erim quickly morphed into what looked like a white wolf except he was much bigger then the other wolf. Erim walked slowly toward the other wolf. He circled it a couple times but on the third the other wolf snapped at Erim drawing blood. Erim quickly changed back and stepped back. Mordric looked at his brother.
“Are you alright?” Erim nodded and looked at his arm, it was gashed pretty bad and was bleeding bad. Dani looked at the wound then at Erim.
“What are you?” Erim and Mordric both turned toward her at the same time. Before either of them could explain the wolf lunged for Dani but was thrown back by Mordric. The wolf hit the wall and collapsed unconscious. Erim ran over to the wolf and held its head in his hands. It breathed slowly; luckily it was still alive but bruised pretty bad from the throw. Erim looked at Mordric angrily. His eyes suddenly changed becoming almost white and his eyes dilated changing his pupils into slits like a cats.
“What did you do?” Erim said anger fused in his voice. A bright light flashed that came from the wolf flooded the room with light making everyone shield their eyes. When they looked back at the wolf, Nichole was in its place unconscious. Dani looked amazed that the snarling black brown wolf was her friend.
“What happened? Where is the wolf?” Erim picked Kenna up and walked toward Dani.
“This is the wolf.” He turned his gaze to Mordric enraged and then walked upstairs leaving Dani and Mordric alone. Mordric led Dani over to the couch then picked up the love seat and swept up the glass.
“Um will she be alright? I mean if what Erim said was true, Kenna would have to be a werewolf.” Mordric looked at Dani with her brown eyes clouded wit concern. Mordric put the broom away and then sat down next to her.
“She should be fine. She will just need sleep,” Mordric placed a hand on her shoulder. “I apologize for throwing her. I was jus trying to protect you.” Dani smiled and blushed. Mordric smiled back at her. It looked like a smile came easily to his face like Erim. A creak from the stairs made them both turn to see Erim come down the stairs. His arm still bled but not as much as before. He sat down on the love seat and leaned forward.
“Why do you think she changed?” he asked Dani. She looked at him. His eyes had gone back to normal but it some how crept her out a little. She thought for a moment.
“Well when I was in her room she cried about a bite mark on her neck near her jugular vein. It was just two puncture wounds but there was no blood near the wound. I think, and don’t hold me to it but I think she was bitten by a vampire.” Erim sat back in the chair showing no emotion what so ever.
“What about the wolf part?” Dani shrugged.
“I want to say a lycan but that can’t be possible. It is either vampire or lycan, it can’t be both.” Mordric looked at Erim who nodded slowly.
“Well actually she can be both. It’s called a hybrid. A combination of mix breeding. Just like Kenna, you have the same bite mark.” Dani’s hand rushed to her neck. Finally her finger tips brushed two bumps.
“Who did this? How could we become hybrids?” Erim stood up and looked out the window and then turned to her.
“We turned you or started the process anyway. You see there is a rule that goes for all vampires, lycan and hybrids that if a human spends more then a day in your house, you are to turn them. We injected you with some of our venom.” Dani started to panic and fur began forming on her arms. Mordric put his arm on her and looked at her.
“You must remain calm until Erim and I are ready for you to fully change. The number one thing that changes a human into a full hybrid is your emotions. Breath slowly and close your eyes.” Dani did what Mordric said and immediately became much calmer. Dani opened her eyes and smiled at Mordric.
“This is really cool; I really mean this but what will happen to my life now?” Mordric looked at Erim who came over and sat next to Dani.
“Danielle, Mordric will take care of that for right now why don’t you go get something to eat in the kitchen. Have what ever you want.” Dani nodded and headed to the kitchen.
“What do you want me to do?” Erim looked at tiny broken glass still on the carpet.
“Make them literally drop off of the map. It will be the only way to make everyone forget them.” Mordric looked in the kitchen watching Dani get and plate and fill it with meat and vegetable.
“What are you thinking?” He asked Erim. Erim shook his head.
“I wasn’t, that’s your job, I need to try make sure Kenna is alright.” Erim stood up to leave but Mordric grabbed his brother’s sleeve.
“Listen, Erim I’m sorry I threw her. I was just trying to make sure Dani was alright.”Erim glanced at Mordric over his shoulder.
“You did what you had to do.” Erim pulled away from Mordric leaving him alone. Mordric changed into his hybrid form and ran out into the night to make Dani and Kenna disappear forever.9
Chapter 310
Kenna opened her eyes slowly. She was in her room on her bed. The sun shown through the double French doors appearing like the sun was just outside her door waiting to be let in. She sat up quickly but a striking pain flew up on her body. Every part of her was screaming with pain. Her muscles felt so weak they could have been jell-o. A head ache throb, her eyes closed to try to block out the pain but it was still there. Seeing some new fresh fruit on the side table by the leather chair, Kenna slowly got off the bed and walked to table. She never reached there for her body stopped her and her legs gave out. She collapsed to the floor but was still conscious. Erim walked on with a tray of sweet smelling food. Seeing Nichole on the floor, he put the tray on the bed and ran over to her.
“Are you alright?!” Erim asked concerned. Kenna sat up and looked at him.
“Fruit,” Erim looked at her strangely “I was trying to get some fruit from the table.” She pointed to the apples and other fruit that was in the bowl. Erim smiled and looked like he would laugh.
“May I help you get back to your bed?” Kenna nodded and put her arm around his neck. Erim put his hand behind her back and lifted her onto her feet. “Just walk slowly; if you walk fast the pain will hurt more.” Kenna watched as she took one step every time with carefulness. When they reached the bed, Erim picked Kenna up and placed her on the bed. He lifted the tray onto her lap and gestured to the food. “I thought you might like something good to eat so I have prepared a delicious breakfast for you.” Kenna looked at the food. It looked like it came from a five star restaurant. A slap of steak and sliced potatoes were the main course. The side dish was four pieces of sliced and buttered bread. Non-pulp orange juice sat in a glass with a straw to sip from. Kenna took the fork and knife and took a small piece of meat. Flavor burst in her mouth making her hunger for more.
“It’s absolutely delicious! Where did you learn to cook so well?” Erim smiled and went over to the side table grabbing a pomegranate. He looked at it for any dents or bruises bur none were found, it was perfect.
“Oh it is just something I enjoy. Mordric likes a quick meal. Anything he has is slapped together quickly.” Kenna dug into the meal swallowing the tasty meat. She stopped when she heard his brother’s name mentioned.
“Mordric? Is that his name?” Erim nodded and ate a big chunk of the fruit. Some of the juice ran down his mouth and on his chin. Kenna watched the red juice drip on his face. Feeling Kenna’s eyes on him, he wiped his mouth and continued eating. “Where are Dani and Mordric anyways?” Erim opened the doors of the balcony and stepped out.
“Mordric is out and I believe Danielle is either asleep or somewhere in the mansion. Do you remember anything from yesterday?” Kenna, who was almost completely done with her meal, shook her head.
“I only remember being downstairs in the living room with Dani feeling angry and confused.” Erim walked back inside and came over to Kenna. He sat down on the bed next to her.
“I know this may be hard to hear and you must keep calm but you are a hybrid. A mix of vampire and werewolf blood. My brother and I changed you and your friend. You turned yesterday so now you are a full hybrid.” Kenna was silent for a moment looking at her plate then looked at Erim’s wound that was now a scar.
“Did I do that?” Kenna gently touched to scar. It was rough and looked to be very deep once. Erim watched as she touched him arm. Goose bumps ran up his arm from her touch.
“Yes but you were not yourself, you did it more of fear and panic then of actually wanting to harm me.” Kenna nodded.
“I think I should be alone for a little while.” Erim nodded and took the empty tray.
“That is understandable.” Kenna watched him take the tray and head for the door.
“Erim, did I try to hurt Dani and why am I so sore?” Erim turned and looked at Kenna. Gentleness and understanding were in his eyes making her feel comfortable in his presence.
“You did try to harm Dani but Mordric threw you against a wall. That’s why you’re sore. I do not agree with his methods. He shouldn’t have harmed you.” Kenna understood. Mordric was trying to protect Dani. He was right in doing that. Who knows what could have happened if she did hurt Dani. Erim stood in the door way for a minute then left Kenna alone. 11
Chapter 412
Dani stood in the kitchen making the most delicious eggs she had ever made. Since scrambled was all she could make scrambled was what it was. Dani opened a cabinet and took out a plate to put the eggs on. Steam rose while she put them on the plate. When the pan was empty of all eggs, she put the pan in the sink and sat down at the small kitchen table. She looked around while gobbling down the eggs. When she was finished she rinsed off her plate and the pan she used.
“Oh you’re up I see.” Dani turned to find Erim bringing an empty tray to the kitchen to empty.
“Yeah I’m up. How’s Kenna?” Erim took the plates and silver wear off the tray and rinsed them off.
“She is doing well. I told her what she was, a hybrid. She took it rather well.” Dani nodded and dried her hands with a kitchen towel. “Listen Mordric and I will be gone most of the day. We will be back at noon. You can do anything you want, just be careful. If anyone comes to attack both you and Kenna hide. You both have barely any experience and we don’t need you both dead. By the way if Kenna comes down just tell her to take it slow. Alright?” Dani nodded then watched Erim leave. Dani threw the towel on the counter and headed for Kenna. When she came in the room, Kenna was scanning the titles of books that line the shelves.
“Anything interesting?” Kenna looked up and smiled. She walked over and hugged her friend.
“I heard I almost attacked you. Are you alright?” Dani nodded. Before she could answer her a knock came from the front door. Dani and Kenna looked at each other and creped silently down the stairs. Another knock came from the door. Dani backed up against a wall accidently pushing a button that unlocked a secret compartment big enough for her and Kenna. Dani took Kenna’s hand and pulled her into the secret place. Kenna opened her mouth to protest but Dani put her finger to her lips to signal silence. The door of the mansion opened slowly letting a scrawny red black haired orange slit eyed man in. He seemed to be about seventeen or eighteen, a little older then the girls. He looked around the entrée way and then walked into the living room. When he was in the center of the room he started searching for something. Glass was smashed, chairs and couches were over turned, and plants that had sat in the window were dumped on the carpet. After about thirty minutes of which Dani and Kenna watched in fear, the strange man finally found what he was looking for. He reached into a small glass box and drew out a necklace with a wolf head on the top and a tooth on the bottom. A small diamond sat in its mouth letting the light cast its raise on it. Thought it was old, the chain and the wolf head were still bright gold like it was just made yesterday. Seeing the necklace in this man’s hands, Kenna started to growl furiously. If the lights were on Dani would have seen her eyes dilate and her pupils turn to slits. The stranger looked up from the necklace and looked around calmly. When he was sure no one was there he began to walk to the door. Kenna looked at her friend seriously.
“Turn!” she whispered. Dani looked at Kenna.
“I cant I don’t know how.” Kenna nodded then bit her hard on the wrist. “Hey! Why did you do that?” Confusion and fear rose up in Dani. Suddenly she could see herself changing. She felt dizzy and fearful. Kenna stood next to her already a hybrid.
“Follow me!” Kenna smashed through the wall they had come through and blocked the path of the stranger. Dani followed Kenna and blocked his path too. They both snarled at the stranger. The stranger smiled wickedly at the girls.
“Well, well, well. Some new hybrids in the wolf house.” The stranger bent close to Kenna looking at her almost black eyes. “And what is your name mutt?” Kenna lunged for his face, succeeding in cutting some of his face. He touched his face, getting his blood on his fingers. He looked at it a moment then raised his hand to grab her and throw her against a wall. Dani lunged at him biting his hand hard tearing flesh off his hand. The stranger screamed and pulled his hand back. Taking out a gun he shot at Kenna and Dani but his aim was off. He pushed the two female hybrids away and ran out the door with the mysterious necklace. Kenna and Dani quickly changed back and started cleaning up the house. Kenna shut the door but it was quickly opened. Erim peered around the door and looked at the mess.
“What happened?” Erim asked concerned. Mordric pushed the door open and saw the clutter.
“What the heck did you do?!” he yelled at Kenna. Erim glared at Mordric the looked at the girls.
“What happened?” Erim asked calmly. Kenna looked at the two hybrids then gestured to the couch.
“Can we sit down?” Erim nodded and went to the couch followed by Mordric. They both sat while the girls sat across from them.
“While you were gone, a strange guy came in and started looking for something. When he found what he was looking for he tried to leave. Luckily Dani and I blocked his path, not in human form though.” Dani nodded and looked at the guys.
“Kenna was able to scratch his face, but when she did that he was about to throw her. I intervened and tor some of the skin from his hand off. He rushed off before we could get the necklace. The odd thing was that he knew we weren’t you guys. He specifically said two new hybrids.” Kenna looked at Erim concerned and fearful.
“Who was that guy? Do you know him or something?” Erim and Mordric starred at them a grave face. Erim stood up and began to pace, while Mordric watched him for a moment.
“Can you describe this guy in anyway?” Erim asked. Kenna nodded.
“Yeah he was scrawny and had orange black hair and orange eyes.” Dani watched Mordric. His eyes changed completely. His once royal blue eyes were now deep blue and his pupils had formed into slits.
“We know who it is.” Mordric said. “Did he take anything?” Dani shrugged and looked at Nichole.
“Yeah he took a necklace with a wolf head on top and a tooth on the bottom. Oh and it had a diamond in its mouth. It was gold, bright gold but it looked really old.” Mordric stood up and cursed under his breath. Erim walked over to the girls and looked at them in the eyes.
“We know who it was. Ironically he is family.” Mordric, who was cursing profusely under his breath paced back and forward, stopped and looked at Erim.
“That sewer rat is not our family, he may be from our father’s side, but he is not our family! He might as well be the son of the devil himself!” Erim looked at his brother and signed. Dani had never seen him as angry as he was now.
“Well if you would stop cursing and calling him names maybe you could tell us who he is and why he is he son of Satan!” Kenna jumped up and raised her voice at Mordric. He turned to her and smiled.
“Sure,” he said mockingly. “Right after I do this.” Mordric took the prescription eye glasses Kenna wore and broke them in half. Before Kenna could even touch a hair on his head, Erim took Kenna by the hand and sat her down. Surprising enough when Mordric broke her glasses, she could still see clearly. It must have been that she was now a hybrid or something. Erim looked at his brother warningly then turned back the Kenna.
“The guy you saw is called Antony; he is a distant cousin on our father’s side. Our father is a vampire. Unfortunately over the years Antony and his family haven’t lets say been winning any brownie points, if you know what I mean.” Dani shook her head.
“So what like he and his family entered a cooking contest or something?” Mordric gave a toothy grin at Dani and laughed for a moment. Erim shook his head and continued.
“No, they have, over the years, turned evil. Our mother’s side is still good. Anyway the necklace that Antony took is very important and has great power that in the wrong hands could hurt many people. Inside the necklace is a drop of blood. It is not vampire blood, werewolf blood or hybrid blood. In fact it isn’t even human blood. It is actually a mixture of all their blood.” Kenna was silent for a moment contemplating what Erim had said so far.
“What’s so special about all three creatures blood mixed together?”
“It’s not necessarily the blood that is mixed together; it is the magic that was combined with the blood to make it special. You see six elders which were two vampire, two werewolves and two hybrids created this thing long ago. They meant for it to be good but secretly it could never be good, powerful but not good. You see the thing that is so special about it is that when the blood is in contact with a vampire, werewolf or hybrids skin can turn them into not just a vampire, werewolf or hybrid but all three.” Dani looked at him strangely.
“What’s so important about that? Isn’t it basically the same thing?” Mordric came over and sat down.
“No because with that power they don’t just have the creature’s looks, they have their abilities too. A werewolf is very strong, the creature is strong. A vampire can move fast, creature has that. A hybrid has keen eye sight, in other words can see something miles away, creature has that.” Dani listened picturing each of these creatures using their powers.
“But don’t hybrids already have all three powers; I mean we are a mix of vampires and werewolves.” Erim shook his head.
“Even though we are all hybrids, we only get one of the powers from one of the creature. For example, Mordric by birth received strength and I received speed. Therefore Mordric moves average and I have average strength. That goes for all hybrids. Do you understand?” Kenna was quite. So it was basically luck of the draw, you got either strength or speed never both. Mordric stood up and stretched.
“I’m going to get ready and get it all together. You finish this up before Antony does something stupid. Oh wait too late.” Mordric entered the kitchen and left the group silent.
“So if that’s all true what power do we have? And what would a creature do if he used the blood?” Erim sat back in his seat nonchalant and collected.
“First I don’t know we would have to test it out. Second if a bad vampire got it or a bad werewolf used the necklace, by the way there are five of these necklaces, anyway they would kill and enslave their own kind along with others to rule them.”
“What about us hybrids, why didn’t you mention us? Where are the five necklaces and who protects them?” Erim closed his eyes and signed.
“Alright hybrids would never use the necklace, because they aren’t draw to the power of the necklace like vampires and werewolves are. That is why only the hybrids are to take care of them. The five necklaces are hidden in strategic places that the vampires and werewolves wouldn’t be able to find. Some how Antony knew the necklace was here, and unfortunately he found it and took it. Now we need to get ready and leave or we’ll never get the necklace back.” Dani nodded.
“Alright one more question. Who are the bad guys and who are the good guys?” Erim stood up and brushed some lint off his really clean shirt.
“Well long ago vampires and werewolves were allies. That was really long ago. Granted there were some evil ones but not as much as today. Unfortunately the vampires are more evil then good. Luckily there is still a hand full of good vampires but that number is dwindling. The werewolves are good but there are still some who are evil. Now let’s leave.” Kenna and Dani followed Erim through the kitchen and into the basement. When they got down there they saw the room. Every inch was covered in weapons. Guns, knives, bombs everything. Mordric stood at a tool table messing with a gun. Erim patted his brother on the back gently and drew his attention. “Where are the clothes?” Mordric turned around and pointed to a shelf with black fabric folded on it. Kenna and Erim walked to the shelf leafing through the close. Dani stood still watching Mordric shine up his gun. Feeling a pare of eyes on him he turned and then smiled.
“Oh Dani, I thought you’d be with Kenna.” Dani shook her head and looked at the gun. It was a huge black one with small sharp blades at the tip so that you could shove it in someone and shoot the bullet inside them.
“Do you do this all the time? The fighting thing?” Mordric turned fully around and leaned back on the tool bench. He nodded with a crooked smile. Dani traces the shape of the blade.
“I wouldn’t do that.” Dani turned sharply to ask why but cut her finger open really bad. Dani drew her finger back holding it. Blood flowed from the cut finger. Mordric’s eyes dilated a little but went back to normal. He grabbed an old wash cloth and pressed hard on it. The blood eventually stopped leaving a deep wound. Dani looked at her finger, it stung a little but it felt better that there was presser on it. Mordric lifted her chin to his face and looked in her eyes.
“You ok?” Concern was written all over his face. Dani blushed slightly.
“Yeah thanks.” Kenna walked over and handed a pile of clothes to Dani.
“These are for you, Erim said that when we change the outfit adapts to our body change. “Dani looked at the clothes everything was black except for three small gold and red stripes on the right shoulder of the shirt.
“What are these stripes for?” Erim walked over already changed in the clothes.
“It’s not the strips that are important it’s the colors. See vampires’ colors are black and red, a werewolf black and gold. But hybrids are red and gold, the black is just joined with it because it looks good.” Mordric handed Erim two knives which he attached to his thigh, a gun and a sword. Dani watched as Mordric strapped on every type of knife on his body. He grabbed two big guns and strapped them to his back.
“Now for you.” Mordric reached back and handed her a machete, a sword, a couple of daggers and one of the spike tipped guns. Mordric looked at Dani and took her by the shoulders. “You think you can handle this?” Dani looked at the gleaming tip of the gun and smiled at Mordric.
“Well I am a hybrid now. I guess I can handle this right?” Mordric nodded and started cleaning up.
Kenna sat down in a corner and brought her knees to her chest. Fear pulled at her heart. She couldn’t kill people, she knew she couldn’t. Erim looked around for her and spotted her in the corner tear eyed. Erim rushed to Kenna without drawing attention and looked at her sorrowfully.
“What’s the matter?” Kenna shook her head and started to cry.
“I can’t do this. I can’t kill people.” Erim nodded understanding what she was going through.
“Don’t worry, I was the same way when I was first turned. Everyone goes through it.” Kenna looked at Mordric who was showing how to hold a gun and fling a knife in someone. “Well except for Mordric, he enjoys killing vampires. Don’t ask me why, he was probably dropped on his head as an infant.” Kenna smiled. “Ah see there’s a smile.” She blushed and looked away.
“I can’t promise anything but I will try to help.” Erim nodded sympathetically.
“Would you like to use a crossbow and a sword? You don’t need to do much but pull a trigger and hit people.” Kenna laughed. She nodded and took Erim’s hand. Mordric turned to the group and looked at everyone.
“Are we already?” Everyone nodded. Erim put a hand up.
“I actually called a friend in for some help.” The door of the basement opened letting in a slim long dark haired brunette in. She wore a long black evening dress on with a spider web pendant on her neck. Kenna looked at her and changed snarling at her angrily. The woman looked at her and smiled revealing sharp canine teeth. Dani looked at her confused.
“Who are you?” the woman ran her fingers on a gun and looked at Dani.
“I am Acanthia Arachnid. If you haven’t noticed from you angry pooch, I’m a vampire.” Erim bent down and stroked Kenna’s fur to calm her down.
“I thought vampires were bad?” Acanthia nodded and studied Dani’s face.
“Only a few are good.” Dani nodded and eyed her up and down.
“If your suppose to help us how do you intend on fighting with a dress on?” Acanthia smiled and with a quick movement of her hand she took of the dress to reveal herself dress in a black short sleeve shirt and a pair of what looked like knee length pants. Knives ran downer her legs with two guns strapped to her back. Two knives sat on either side of her arms. She smiled and looked Erim and Mordric.
“Ready?” They both nodded. Mordric grabbed his gun and walked upstairs with Dani and Acanthia. Erim came second to last ad looked at Kenna.
“You coming?” Kenna changed back and grabbed the cross bow and sword Erim had given her. She walked to Erim and smiled.
“Ready as I’ll ever be.” They both climbed the stairs and headed outside. Mordric was already in his black hummer with the girls in the back.
“Come on. By the time we get there someone would have already killed Antony.” Erim shook his head and opened the door for Kenna. She climbed in gracefully as she could be and sat down on the leather seat. Erim placed a gentle hand on her shoulder and smiled. She smiled back showing him happiness and calmness but inside she was crying from fear and sadness. Erim walked around to the passenger seat and slid in gracefully putting on his seat belt. Mean while Mordric looked for a good radio station to listen to. Static was mostly heard instead of music and was driving everyone crazy. Finally Acanthia snapped jumping over the first seat and grabbing a handful of Mordric’s hair.
“Just find a channel before I give you a new definition for pain in the neck!” The whole car was silent for a moment. Acanthia flung Mordric’s head forward a little and climbed back in the seat. Mordric whispered a few curses and then began driving. The car remained silent the rest of the drive except for some heavy metal songs that Kenna didn’t know. Trees passed her by quickly followed by a couple signs and billboards. Her eyes grew heavy. Pulling her feet up on the seat that could easily fit three people; she pulled herself into a lazy ball and drifted off. Her vision faded from the real world and came back into her dreams. She opened her eyes. She was lying on a metal operating table with wire attached to her body. The room was pitch black except for one lamp that sat a few meters away. A small table held tools that a doctor or dentist might use along with some nails, screwdriver, tranquilizer gun and a small table saw. Black liquid that was now dry was on the tools. She reached out with her fingers and pulled the table a little closer into the light. When she saw what was on them she drew her fingers back in fear. Dry blood lay on the tools. Kenna tried to sit up and get away but something was holding her back. She cried for Erim but he didn’t come. Panic flowed over her like water. An evil laugh bubbled from the darkness. A black figure came into view and stepped into the light. It was the man she saw before at the mansion, Antony. His hands were behind his back and an evil tormenting smile played on his lips. He walked closer to her still smiling.
“No one is coming to save you Kenna. Not even Erim.” Antony’s hand came back from behind him showing her a long sharp knife. He raised it above her and smiled. “No one will ever save you.” With a laugh of triumph, Antony lowered the knife and plunged it into her. Kenna opened her eyes again and sat up quickly. She was still in the hummer safe and sound with Erim, Mordric, Dani and Acanthia. They were still on the rode driving and the girls had fallen asleep. Sweat flowed down her forehead. Her hair was damp and clung to her head. Kenna touched the spot where Antony had stabbed her in her dreams. She raised her shirt and looked at her abdomen. There was nothing there. Not even a scar. Feeling frantic she unbuckled herself and walked to the car door closes to her. Erim turned around and saw Kenna walking around.
“You shouldn’t be up. You need to be buckled in.” Kenna paid little attention to Erim and opened the car door. She watched the rode pass fast. Erim tried to unbuckle having no success at all. Kenna closed her eyes and took a deep breath. With a jump she was out of the car and on the road rolling. Erim yelled to Mordric to stop the car and ripped the seat belt apart. Mordric hit the breaks quickly flinging Dani and Acanthia awake.
“What is the bloody deal?” Acanthia yelled. Erim by now was out of the car running to Kenna. Mordric followed along with the girls behind him. Kenna groaned in pain but stood up and morphed. She looked behind her seeing everyone come after her. She looked at Erim for a moment and then ran fast toward the forest. Tears ran down her face dampening her fur. Erim morphed quickly and followed Kenna.
“Go on. I will be back as soon as I can. Mordric continue to where ever Antony is. Kenna and I will join you soon enough.” Mordric nodded and ran back to the car calling Dani and Acanthia to follow. Kenna was far ahead Erim but he kept his pace and continued. Kenna finally reached the forest and ran dogging trees everywhere. Seeing a small den, she threw herself in. A snarl came behind her and she turned around. It was only a fox. Kenna bared her teeth and killed the fox eating swallowing it whole. “Kenna, Kenna I am here there is no need to be scared.” Erim came in sight and changed back into human form looking everywhere for her. Kenna backed deeper into the den. Mud and dirt inside tumbled down on her covering her scent. Then like she was watching some video, she saw Erim looked around a couple of tree and disappear. The video ended. Kenna crawled closer to the opening. She watched him intently. Suddenly he did exactly what she saw in her vision. He disappeared around a tree. Nichole crawled out quickly. She looked around to make sure he wasn’t there then ran threw the forest again. Hearing twigs snap and the padding of feet Erim raced off toward Kenna. He reached out to grabber her fur but she tripped on a twig and tumbled to the ground. She lay there for minutes not moving at all. Erim rushed to her side and watched her breath slowly. She changed back this time slowly. Tears decorated her face. “Are you alright?” She sat up and looked at him with hopelessness in her eyes. Scars were on her face and bruises were on her legs and arms from the jump.
“You weren’t there. You didn’t save me. You left me to die.” Tear rolled down her face and she wept harder. Erim pulled her into his arms and rapped them around her.
“I don’t understand.” He finally said. Kenna sat up and looked at him.
“I had a dream that I was on a metal operating table strapped down with bloody tools next to me. I was in a dark room and Antony had a knife behind his back. He killed me. I could feel the straps on my arms and legs and the knife that was shoved in me. He said you would not come to save me, no one could save me. It felt so real. Then something weird happened when I was hiding from you, I saw you in a day dream walking behind a tree for a moment.” Erim looked at her and smiled.
“I will always save you, Kenna. Now about these dreams, I think you have the power of sight. You see every hybrid has a special power. Vampires and werewolves do too but theirs are mostly tied with their human gifts, ours aren’t. For example if a human could hear very well when they were turned into a werewolf or vampire that gift was just enhanced. We hybrids have special gifts like sight or speed or powers having to do with water.” Erim stood up and lifted her up onto her feet. “We better get to the others they probably need a hand.” They walked back to the clearing quietly.
“Will my powers ever get stronger?” Erim nodded. “What power do you have?” Erim smiled showing his brilliant white teeth. He showed her his palm. There was nothing there. She held it for a minute studying it. “I don’t get it.” Erim smiled.
“I haven’t started yet. Now I will. By the way yes your powers will only increase when you use them more.” Kenna looked back at his hand this time a white substance grew on his hand turning it white. She touched it with her finger and was surprised to find that it was cold. It was ice! She looked back at his face in surprise.
“You can make ice?” Erim smiled then grew serious.
“We need to go. Can you use your sight to see if they are alright?” Kenna looked at her feet and grew quiet.
“I don’t know it just…” Kenna stopped suddenly. Like the vision before Kenna saw Mordric, Dani and Acanthia in the car. They stopped near a tunnel and got out. Her vision turned away from her friends and went to some bushes and trees where Antony and some of his men hid. Mordric and the others headed into the tunnel. He spoke but Kenna could not hear what he said. Antony walked out with his men and surrounded her friends. Her vision ended suddenly sending her back to reality. She looked at Erim concerned. “They’re heading into a trap. Antony and his men are planning on them.” Erim tensed up and looked away from her for a brief second.
“We need to get there as fast as we can. We need to morph, if we ran there in this form we would never make it.” Kenna nodded. They both morphed and headed toward the tunnel where Antony surrounded their friends. 13
Chapter 514
The car was as quiet as a casket and Dani could not stand it in the least. The air conditioner was on full blast and the music was low. Acanthia had drifted to sleep for a moment leaving Mordric and herself alone to talk.
“So how do you know where we’re going?” Mordric glanced at Dani and then back at the rode.
“You could say a sense of direction.” Dani looked at him knowing he was lying.
“Yeah ok sure what ever you say.” Mordric smiled.
“Alright you got me. I have a tracking device on him. It tracks his every move.” Dani nodded and looked back at the rode. She wished she could talk to Kenna but she was not here and Erim wasn’t here either. She kept wondering how they were doing. Did they need help? Was Kenna injured? Questions flew through her mind. “They’ll be fine.” Dani looked back at Mordric.
“Who will?”
“Erim and Kenna. Erim can take care of himself. He is almost 1,000 years old.” Dani adjusted herself so she was facing Mordric.
“Where were you born?” Mordric was quite then answered.
“In Rome, actually ancient Rome to be exact.” Dani looked at Mordric amazed.
“Are you serious?” Mordric nodded.
“Luckily I wasn’t there during the rein of some bad emperors but there were a few.” Dani watched him as attentive as a child.
“How old were you in the middle ages?” Mordric kept driving with his eyes on the rode.
“I was sixteen. Erim was seventeen.” Dani nodded. She watched the rode too but then looked back at Mordric.
“When were you turned?” Mordric grew uncomfortable and tense.
“When I was seventeen, a few hours before I was to get married. Erim was turned was he was seventeen too. Only he wasn’t getting married.” Mordric chuckled but it was dry and life less. Dani became silent. The tension in the air was so thick that you could literally taste it.
“Who was she?” Mordric was quite then cleared his throat.
“Her name was Mary Elizabeth. She was in the same class as I and just two years younger than me. She was a sweet and kind girl. She had a gentle spirit about her.” Dani nodded.
‘What happened to her?” Mordric didn’t answer right away and let the silence fill the car once more.
“She and I had decided to take a walk in the woods. We stumbled upon a female hybrid that was crazed. She attacked both of us. I was first. I was only bitten but Mary’s fate was worse. When I woke up the next morning, I think I might have hit my head or something; I looked around to see if Mary was there. She was but I didn’t even recognize her. Her body was scared up and her face had so many you could barely tell it was human. I check to see if she was still alive but she was gone.” Mordric ended. Dani couldn’t believe what she had heard.
“I am so sorry. I wish there was some way I could comfort you.” Mordric didn’t say anything for a long time. Dani put a hand on him but he didn’t respond. She looked outside they had somehow stopped. Dani opened the car door and stepped out. She walked a little ahead and looked around. Why had they stopped here? And why didn’t Mordric respond to her? Then suddenly when she turned back around the hummer started to move really fast toward her. Mordric looked at Dani surprised and swerved the car in a quick jerk sending it rolling. When the car finally stopped, it was upside down with the window shield broken and some of the windows cracked. Mordric stepped out of the car along with Acanthia. Acanthia looked at the car and started cursing under her breath. Mordric ran to Dani and looked at her seriously.
“Danielle, how did you get out here without me seeing you?” Dani looked at Mordric like he was playing some kind of joke.
“I stepped out of the car. You stopped it. I walked over here to see why you had stopped and then you started the car and headed it for me.” Mordric shook his head.
“No I never stopped the car, the car was still on and I was still driving it. One moment you were right beside me then you were in front of me.” Dani shook her head.
“If that’s true then how did I get out the car without any bruises like Kenna?” Mordric thought for a moment and looked away starring at the neon yell paint on the rode. He looked back at Dani and smiled.
“You have your power, well one anyway. You must have the power to stop time. The only thing is you can’t touch anything you can only move. You touched the car door and opened it. That must have given you only a few minutes to walk here.” Acanthia finally done kicking the useless car, walked over to Mordric and Dani.
“She has the power of stopping time? That should be useful.” Mordric nodded. Dani put her hand up for them to stop.
“This is really cool, don’t get me wrong but if I have a power then that must mean Kenna has a power along with you guys and all other hybrids.” Mordric nodded.
“Erim has the power of ice; I have the power of fire. Great combination right.” He opened his hand and a ball of glowing red fire flared up. The heat was so hot, Dani had to step back. “Listen we need to leave now or we will never get there. Before we crashed and burned literally, the coordinates of Antony’s where abouts was not to far from where we are. It’s only a few hybrid walks way. She morphed into her wolf self and Mordric followed. They ran fast to their destination with Acanthia running fast behind them. Finally they reached their destination. A cement tunnel with fallen leaves was their destination and there was no one in here. Mordric morphed back and looked around there was no sign that anyone had been there for a while. Dani changed quickly back and watched Mordric. Acanthia joined Dani and watched Mordric too.
“Great we missed him. With all this pathetic stopping we missed him. If we hadn’t stopped so much we would have gotten him and the necklace now we have nothing.” Dani walked toward Mordric but a shrill howl stopped her.
“Don’t go in there it’s a trap!” Kenna and Erim ran to Mordric and changed into their human forms. Before Mordric or anyone else could ask any questions Antony and his men came out and surround them.
“Well it looks like we meet each other again cousins.” Mordric glared at Antony like he was a bug.
“You are no cousin of ours!” Erim stood next to his brother and threw a hard ball of ice at Antony hitting him in the face.
“What is this, a snow ball fight? Hardly the time.” Antony wiped the ice off his face and gave a cocky smile at his cousins.
“If you didn’t like the ice you should have told us.” Mordric opened his palm letting a huge ball of fire sit in his hand. Antony watched the fire ball with a twinge of fear. Mordric watching it pop and crackle in his hand. He looked at Antony and gave a hideous smile. “Here’s to you cousin.” He threw the fire sending all of Antony’s men running out of the way and scattering. The fire started to burn the leaves and block off their only way out.
“Brilliant Mordric now what’s your plan?” Mordric didn’t respond but instead was watching for Antony. Then just like the first two visions Kenna saw all of them standing watching for Antony when suddenly he and one of his men grabbed Dani and herself by the neck. She watched as Dani grabbed a knife from her side and stabbed it into the guy. The vision faded and just like that it became real a gruff hand rapped itself around Dani’s neck along with Antony’s arm around her neck. Mordric and Erim ran to the girls but Antony drew a dagger to Kenna’s neck. The guy holding Dani did the same.
“Take one more move and I slice your girlfriend’s neck.” They both stopped their eyes dilating changing their normal eye color to startling colors. Mordric looked at Dani and immediately saw what she was going to do. A dagger that she had slipped in her pant pocket was now in her hand. The blade was facing the attacker; all it needed was a plunge through his skin. Mordric did a very slight nod but gave a signal not to do anything yet.
“Give us the girls Antony, they did nothing to you.” Erim said calmly. Antony smirked and looked at his cousins with vengeance.
“Why should I? I could use them easily for anything. Say for instance a slave to use for my every whim or maybe a practice dummy for my armed forces. I think that sounds the best.” Erim stayed calm. Mordric on the other hand would rather slit his throat then a thousand vampires put together.
“Give them the girls, Antony!”Acanthia stepped in front of the two brothers fists clenched. Antony smiled at Acanthia smugly.
“Oh so the trader decides to speak up. How quaint.”
“Give us back to necklace and the girls! Erim yelled. His eyes were no longer blue but a fiery red.
“I don’t think that will do it for me. How about you give me the trader and I keep the necklace and the girls.” Before anyone had anything further to say, Dani shoved the dagger into the loft skin of the vampire. He screamed painfully letting go of her neck and falling to the ground. Dani ran to the small band of friends she had and turned back toward Antony. Another vision appeared to Kenna taking her away from the real world and to the future. She saw herself with Antony’s arm still around her neck. He said a few things and then disappeared with her. The vision spend up where Erim and the others where in a hospital like building killing Antony’s men. Erim along with Dani creped to a door and opened it. She saw herself on a operating table with Erim rescuing her. The vision ended and sent her back the real world.
“Give her back along with the necklace Antony! It doesn’t belong to you! It is ours to protect!” Antony rolled his eyes and walked around.
“You see that is the problems with you hybrids, just because you were granted the safe keeping of the five necklaces you think you have protected them. When in fact you haven’t really done anything at all. You see only two are left for you to protect. There are three that we have. I was told to get this one and I have so if you don’t mind I think your friend and I will have a little game of operation.” Antony turned quickly and ran out of the tunnel. The small group followed him but by the time they got out of the tunnel he was only a distant speck.
“I am guessing that he has super human speed?” Dani said. Erim nodded and put out the fire in the tunnel with a soft blow of air.
“All vampires have super speed. It’s like a necessity for them I guess. We need to start moving if we want to get Kenna back and the three necklaces. Where’s the car?” Mordric signaled for Erim to follow him. When they came to the car wreck the car was worse then what Mordric and the girls had seen it before.
“We kind of had a accident.” Erim saw the upside down hummer with the cracked windows and the broke window shield.
“Kind a! It looks like a gorilla in heat did this! What the heck did you do?” Mordric pointed to Dani.
“She did it.” Dani looked at him frustrated and frowned.
“Thanks a lot Mordric for the help.” She said sarcastically. Mordric shrugged.
“I love you but I am not taken the blame for you.” Erim walked over to Dani and looked at her frustrated.
“What power do you have?”
“The power to stop time.”Erim didn’t seem surprised or at least didn’t show it.
“Did you touch anything while time was frozen?” Dani thought back for a moment.
“I opened the car door but that was it.” Erim nodded.
“You can’t touch anything. No one no thing, nothing. If you do you unfreeze time. You can bring people with you before you freeze time with your hand on their shoulder or something around those lines but you cant after.” Dani nodded. “We will have to follow them Indian style lets go.” Erim morphed followed by Mordric and Dani. Acanthia followed with super speed hopefully to rescue Kenna before it was too late.”15
Chapter 616
Kenna opened her eyes slowly. She was in a dark room with only a small table lamp to light the room. Kenna tried to sit up but something held her down. She looked at her arms and legs. They were strapped down with metal cuffs that were tight on her wrists and ankles. She lifted her head to get a better view what was around her. A small table with tools that a doctor or dentist might use were on the table along with some nails, screwdriver, tranquilizer gun and a small table saw. A dried black substance was on the items. Kenna didn’t need to pull the table over to see what was on it. A slight creak of a door opened made goose bumps rush up her arm.
“Whose there?” she said. Her voice was shaky. Antony stepped into the light and smiled.
“Only me.” He walked over to her side and gently brushed her face with his fingers. Kenna jerked her head away from his hand. He smiled again and chuckled. “Don’t worry sweet heart, I am not going to hurt you,” he paused and walked around to the small table with the dry blood covered tools. “Much anyway.” Kenna tried pulling her hand hard out of the cuffs but her hand remained still.
“Why are you doing this?” Antony shrugged and came closer to her.
“Because your kind is an abomination. You are not made to live.” Kenna looked at Antony critically.
“So you are jus going to kill every hybrid just because you think they are a disgrace?!” Antony looked at her smugly.
“Oh it’s not just me that thinks that, it’s a whole group. That’s why we stole three of the necklaces. To rid the world of hybrids and any other creature that joins them.” Kenna narrowed her eyes and morphed snarling at him angrily. A high voltage of electricity ran through her body changing her back. Kenna groaned and opened her eyes which had immediately shut when she was electrocuted. Antony stood back a little and started to laugh a little. “Oh I must have forgotten to tell you that when you are wearing those metal cuffs, I can at any moment send volts of electricity through your body.” Antony turned around and motioned at someone. Electricity rushed through her body making her shake uncontrollably.
“Erim! Mordric!” She screamed beginning for help. Antony motioned again and the electricity stopped. Kenna still shook uncontrollably even though the electricity was off.
“They aren’t going to save you, Kenna. They wont protect you. I will though. I can make you human again. I can make all your troubles of being a hybrid disappear.” He brushed a lock of dark brown hair away from her face. Kenna glared at him.
“You..could..never….help me!” Kenna stuttered. Soon her eyes began to fail shutting automatically.
“Oh but I can Kenna, I can.”17
Chapter 718
Erim brushed a lock of hair away from his face and breathed slowly.
“We can stop here for a moment.” Mordric and Dani morphed into their normal forms and breathed slowly.
“How long is a moment? Like get something to eat moment? Or stay the night moment?” Dani asked. Erim picked up sticks and began putting them in a tiki type stack.
“Would you mind Mordric?” His brother shook his head and threw a ball of fire at the wood. The fire engulfed the wood sending off a warm aura around the makeshift camp sight.
“We should stay here for the night. Its useless looking which way Antony went in the dark.” Erim said. Dani nodded and went to sit on a old fallen log. Acanthia joined the hybrids and sat far away from the fire. Her skin looked like it was made of snow and her hair resembled the dark.
“I am so hungry I could eat a horse.” Dani grumbled. Mordric can and sat next to her.
“You want one? I saw a couple not far away. They were nice and plump.” Dani looked at him and shook her head.
“No it is just a phrase you use when you are really hungry. For example I am as hungry as a wolf.” Mordric smiled at her and chuckled.
“Well technically you are a wolf and you do have a wolfs appetite.” Dani opened her mouth to say something but then nodded.
“Very true.” The camp was silent except for the crackle of the fire and Erim’s restless pacing.
“So do you want to eat a horse?” Mordric asked.
“No!” Dani said. Erim stopped and sat down a few feet away from them and shook his head.
“Two things you need to know about Mordric. One he loves to fight evil if you haven’t noticed from all the metal he had on him before. Second he is always thinking with his stomach.” Mordric shook his head.
“I do not think with my stomach.” Erim nodded.
“Ok remember that time when we went down to Mexico and you got thirsty.” Dani looked at Mordric then at Erim confused.
“What happened?”she asked. Erim looked at Dani.
“Have you ever heard of the jupacopra?” Dani nodded still confused.
“Yeah its this thing that drinks goats blood or what ever and leaves the body.” Erim pointed at Mordric.
“Tubby over here is the jupacopra.” Dani looked at Mordric surprised.
“You drank goat blood?! You’re the jupacopra?!” Mordric gave her a cracked smile.
“Ola.” Dani looked at him and shook her head. “What?! Goat blood is very tasty. I don’t know what’s in it that makes it so good.”
“Actually goat blood is not the best, you have to have an acquired taste for that.”
“Which I have.” Acanthia nodded.
“I know anyway I like flamingo blood. It taste a lot like shrimp.” Dani winced. Erim smiled at Dani.
“Don’t worry, you’ll get use to it. Your bound to have your taste of blood soon.”
“I still cant believe you are the jupacopra!” Dani said to Mordric. He looked at her with a dead rabbit in his teeth. “Wait where did you get that?!” Mordric pointed behind him.
“Peter cottontail was right there and I was hungry so good by Peter cottontail.” Dani shook her head.
“I don’t believe you.” Erim shook his head.
“You think being the jupacopra is bad? Ha this isn’t the first time he messed up. You know the painting of Monat Lisa?” Dani nodded.
“Yeah no one known’s why she is smiling.” Erim nodded and pointed to Mordric who was licking his chops and fingers.
“Einstein was the brains of that. He gave her the smile. She was supposed to have a blank face like the modal but no he just couldn’t leave the painting alone. He just had to mess with it.” Dani looked at him surprised and angry.
“You messed up De Vinci’s painting!” Mordric rolled his eyes and threw the unwanted pieces of the dead rabbit on the ground.
“Yeah so what. He was my art teacher and he was always giving me grief that my artwork was boring basically.” Dani looked at Mordric and shook her head.
“I don’t understand why would he say that?” Mordric shrugged.
“My paintings were all the same thing.”
“Same thing? What” Mordric didn’t answer right away.
“Food.” Dani rolled her eyes.
“You had one of the best artist in the world and all you painted was food? No pictures of nature, people anything?” Mordric shook his head. Dani shook her head. Erim stood up and joined Dani.
“Speaking of food, you better get something to eat before you freak. Mordric will take you on your first hunt. He is pretty good at it.” Dani nodded and morphed into her hybrid self. Mordric followed and both ran into the woods. The camp was silent. Neither Acanthia nor Erim said anything.
“Eripmav, are you fearful for Kenna?” Erim studied his hands and then looked at his old friend. He smiled at his friends concern then looked at the dirt floor.
“Yes. Antony is dangerous and he will kill her before he gives up the necklace. He knows my feelings toward her.” Acanthia nodded.
“I know, it must be torture to have her away. But you must get through it. We will save Kenna dead or alive.” Erim looked at Acanthia suddenly.
“Don’t say that, we will save her alive.” Before Acanthia could say anymore Dani and Mordric returned with a half dead deer. Its breathing was rapid and it was close to death. “So you got your prey, will you drinks it blood or eat its meat?” Dani looked at the deer that was having a panic attack.
“Can I do both?” Erim nodded. Dani looked back at the deer. “How do I do it?” Mordric smiled.
“You channel your emotions by what you want to do. If you want to drink its blood you channel your emotions to that. Here I will show you.” Mordric closed his eyes and then opened them. His eyes were dilated and his canine teeth were long and sharp. He plunged his teeth into the body of the deer drinking some of its blood. He lifted his head back up and looked at Dani. His teeth went back to normal and his eyes went back to normal. He wiped away the remaining blood that was on his mouth and smiled.
“Your turn.” Dani closed her eyes picturing herself plunging her fangs into the deer’s body. She could feel herself wanting to eat. Then like someone turned on the switch, Dani opened her eyes. Her canine teeth became long and sharp and her eyes were dilated turning her brown eyes to a much darker brown. She plunged her fangs into the deer draining it of its blood. The red liquid was salty and had a little bit of a sweet taste to it that made her want to drink more. When the blood was finally gone, Dani stepped back and smiled.
“It was delicious!” Mordric smiled and then tor the deer letting the meat show. Dani eyed the meat hungrily. “Is it normal,” she asked slowly “for me to have a desire for meat?” Erim and Mordric nodded their heads.
“That’s your lycan side. Werewolves eat lots of meat.” Erim said. Dani morphed and started eating the deer meat hungrily. Erim stepped back and watched as she had her taste of deer. Mordric morphed too and tried to eat some of the meat. Dani snarled at Mordric, making him back away.
“She is becoming a true hybrid by and by.” Acanthia said. Erim nodded.
“She handles it well.” Acanthia looked at her friend. Worry played on her face.
“Erim, we will rescue Kenna. I promise.’ Erim nodded.
“I know.”
Chapter 819
Kenna opened her eyes. She was still in the dark room strapped to the operating table. The light was still on and the small table of torture tools was still by here. Antony was no where to be found. Kenna tried again to pull her hands from the metal cuffs but it as pointless. She laid her head back down. Then Erim’s words rushed to her mind.
“Your powers will only increase when you use them more.” Kenna opened her eyes and tried to channel a message to Erim and the others. For a couple of minutes there was nothing. Then she could feel what they were thinking. Erim was worried about her and wanted her back safely. Dani was worried about her too but was also glad to be with Mordric and become more of a hybrid. Then she went into Acanthia’s mind. There was nothing. No thought no feelings nothing. Then suddenly a huge headache pounded into her mind making her scream, tears rolled down her face. After that as quick as it had come it was gone. Unexpectedly a voice like the sound of a soft violin spoke to her.
Who are you what are you doing here? Kenna was quite. She wasn’t sure if she should respond or remain silent. Going with her instinct Kenna spoke.
I’m Kenna and I am trying to reach my friends. There was no response.
Wait Kenna that’s you!?
Yes? Who is this?
It is Acanthia, how are you able to talk to me telepathically?
I wasn’t trying to. I was trying to send all of you a vision of where I am but some how I was in everyone’s minds. I could here what they were thinking. Acanthia was silent for a moment.
What power do you have?
The power of sight.
You must have enhanced your powers by pushing the limit of them. Kenna thought about what Acanthia had said. So by try with all her might to send a vision to Erim and the others she had actually discovered that she had a second power. I will tell the others mean while you stay put. Where are you? Kenna looked around the room for a sign. A vision appeared before her. She saw her self carried by Antony into an old abandoned hospital that looked like it was used a long time ago. Her vision sped up and showed her a plaque that read St. Peter Hospital. The vision ended.
At the old St. Peter hospital. It’s abandoned and I am on an operating table with cuffs that electrocute me. Help me please! Acanthia didn’t answer for a while then her voice came again.
Don’t worry we’ll be there as soon as we can. Acanthia didn’t answer after that.
Hurry.20
Chapter 921
Dani opened her eyes and yawned. She rubbed her eyes to wake herself up a little more and realized she had fallen asleep as a hybrid not as a human. When she looked around though Mordric and Erim had done the same thing so it must be normal. She stretched her legs and got up slowly. She closed her eyes and thought hard on freezing time. She opened her eyes. Time was frozen. Even the fire had stopped moving. Dani smiled and ran off into the woods to catch some food. When she had reached the outskirts of the woods she unfroze time the same way before. Seeing a deer coming this way she hid behind a bush and waited quietly. The deer was just close enough for her to smell its fur. Dani seeing her moment jumped at the deer. The deer was quicker though and escaped her grasp. Dani morphed back in to her human self and groaned.
“Why can’t I catch it?” She snapped her fingers angrily. Suddenly time froze. Dani looked at her fingers and smiled. “Sweet! So I can clap or snap to make time freeze? Awesome!” She walked over to the deer that was in a mid bound and took its head in hers snapping the neck. Time unfroze as quickly as it had begun. The deer fell to the ground dead.
“This looks like a good meal.” Dani said. She morphed back and plunged her fangs into the body of the deer drinking the blood hungrily. The taste was like no others. The sweet and salty taste made her taste buds want more. When the blood was finally drained Dani ripped open the body and ate the meat inside. Hours past and finally she was done with the deer. All that remained of the once live deer was the bones and fur. She snapped her fingers and ran back to camp and went in the same position as she was before. She snapped her fingers again and time unfroze. She watched everyone making sure she had waked no one. Mordric stirred and fluttered his eyes opening them slowly.
“How long have you been up?” He asked. A yawn cut off most of his question making it slur his words. Dani morphed and sat Indian style watching Mordric. He stretched and yawned one more time. “Come on lets get something to eat, I am starving.” Dani shook her head and yawned herself.
“I already ate.” Mordric who had headed to the forest stopped and looked at her.
“You have? When? How? You were asleep or just waking up.” Dani smiled. She stood up and brushed herself off.
“Do you tell me everything you do?” Mordric let the comment pass.
“Stay here, I’ll be back.” Dani nodded and sat down on a fallen log. Acanthia sat up gracefully and looked at Dani with her piercing green eyes.
“Good morning.” Dani looked at her and nodded.
“Morning.” Acanthia kept her eyes on Dani and unnoticing started fumbling with her necklace.
“How was breakfast?” She shrugged and lay down on the log.
“It was ok.” Acanthia nodded and looked away. Dani looked at her feet trying to memorize every bend and curve.
“Mordric is lucky to have someone like you.”Dani looked back at Acanthia. She blushed a little and smiled. She hadn’t really considered herself lucky just by chance Mordric liked her.
“How long have you known Mordric and Erim, I mean like really known them?” Acanthia smiled and looked at the ground where she cast a long dark shadow on the dirt ground.
“Let’s just say a while.” Dani furrowed her brow.
“Huh well how were you turned?” Acanthia looked at Dani and grew serious. She took her gaze away from Dani but Dani could smell the blood going to her cheeks.
“I had a run in with fate and just happened to be unlucky.” Dani raised her brow and smiled. She leaned forward with her elbows on her knees.
“That’s an interesting story but it doesn’t tell me anything about you. Come on how were you turned?” Acanthia gave a heavy sigh and looked back at Dani.
“Alright fine I was born in ancient Rome, like the wolf brothers. I was a little older than them about nineteen or twenty in the Middle Ages. I had found myself attracted to a man by the name of Cadel Beauford,” She smiled. “He was the most amazing man I had ever met. He was funny, smart, handsome, charming everything that a girl wants in a man. Well one night he proposed to me and I accepted with out finding out what he truly was. Erim warned me about Cadel but I was stubborn and I ignored his warning. A month later I was married to him. Two day after we were married I slept soundly but while I slept I felt a sharp pain in my neck. I rubbed it thinking I might get rid of the pain but it didn’t help. I tossed and turned that whole night. Well the next morning, I woke up with no pain in my neck at all. Cadel was no where near me so I was alone. A servant came in my room to give me some food but the instant he came in my room I attacked him and drank his blood. It was then I knew one thing I was no longer human. I locked the door as soon as I figured out and threw the body in the ocean so that no one would find out I killed him. I remember sitting on my bed, my stomach beginning for some blood but I denied myself. Finally Cadel came back. His skin was so pale it looked florescent. When he greeted me, I attacked him and yelled at him to tell me what he had done to me. He told me I was know a vampire and would live forever. He asked if I was alright and I said yes but I lied through my teeth. That night I stole away and have never seen Cadel again.” Dani shook her head amazed.
“So did you ever want to go back and see him?” Acanthia shook her head.
“Not then not now. He turned me into something that I didn’t want to be.” Dani looked at Acanthia amazed.
“But he turned you so he could be with you forever. Doesn’t that sound remotely romantic? I would love a guy who did that!” Acanthia gave her half a smile.
“Romance is a seed that will never grow in my heart, but if I wasn’t turned I would not get to meet such interesting new female hybrids.” She smiled gently. Dani smiled back. Erim woke up and morphed.
“Morning Erim.” Dani said. Erim turned to her and smiled. Then running to the forest morphed back into wolf form. Mordric raced back to Dani and sat down next to her.
“Hey wolf heart.” Dani turned and looked at him furrowing her brow.
“Did you just call me an animal organ that bumps blood?” Mordric smiled and nodded. “Is that your way of saying some thing kind?” Mordric smiled devilishly and gave her a strong hug.
“Yup, like it?” Dani smiled and nestle her head in his chest.
“Definitely.” Erim came back and looked at his brother and Dani. Mordric was happily growling softly. He smiled and sat down next to Acanthia. “Are you purring?” Dani looked up at Mordric curiously. Mordric looked at her and smiled.
“Yes in a hybrid type of way. Why you think only cats can make a noise when they are happy? Wrong, hybrids always make a soft growling noise when they are happy.” Dani nodded and rested her head back on his chest. Silence was the main company in the small camp for a long time. Acanthia jumped up quickly and looked at the brothers and Dani.
“I know where Kenna is.” Erim looked at her surprised.
“How?!” Dani and Mordric looked at Acanthia with the same emotion on their faces.
“She spoke telekinetic to me.” Erim held up his hands and shook his head.
“Wait she has the power of sight not telekinetic.” Acanthia shook her head.
“She tried to send an image to us all threw our minds but taped into another power. If I am right she pushed the limit of her first power by entering our minds thus giving her another power.” Erim thought this over.
“If what you say is true then that would mean that all hybrids have two powers but they rarely discover it at all so making them only have one power.” Dani smiled.
“Awesome I want my other power how do we do it?”
“We use our powers to their full extent till we reach the other power. It might be a little painful but if we want to rescue Kenna we need all of our other powers. And when you do get your second power they will have something to do with your first, like Kenna. She had the power of sight and sending images to people through their mind thus she received telekinetic.” Dani stepped forward first.
“How would I use my power to the full extent?” Erim was quite for a second and looked at the sky then looked back.
“Focus your power on one thing and freeze only that thing.” Dani smiled playfully and looked back at Mordric.
“I know just the thing.” She turned and looked at Mordric. “Hold very still.” Mordric looked at her nervously.
“Are you going to like freeze time and draw on my face or something?” Dani smiled and shook her head. She closed her eyes and felt the power rising up inside her. When it felt like she would explode with power she opened her eyes and froze Mordric’s head only.
“That’s for blaming me for the car wreck.” Erim smiled and patted Dani on the back.
“Good job Danielle, know go get me a magic marker.” Dani opened her mouth to say something but crashed to the floor screaming. A painful headache like none she had ever felt rang through her head. Tears sprang to her eyes and ran down her face like a water fall. Finally it stopped and Dani stopped screaming. Erim put his arm around her and looked at her with concern.
“What happened!?” Dani breathed slowly and shook her head.
“I don’t know. All I know is when I was over reaching my power a serious head ache came along with it.” Erim nodded and thought for a moment. He turned around and began pacing back and forth.
I wonder why she got a headache. Dani looked at Erim and frowned.
“You know I have ears, I can hear you. Stop talking like I am not here.” Erim stopped what he was doing and looked at her in bewilderment.
“What are you talking about? I didn’t say anything.” Dani crossed her arms and glared at him.
“Yes you did! You said I wonder why she got a headache. I’ll tell you why, because I tried to flippen over reach my powers that gave me a serious migraine!” Erim’s eyes widened. He walked over to Dani and put a gentle hand on her shoulder.
“Calm down. Ok first of all I didn’t say that I thought it. Try reading Mordric’s mind.” Dani looked at Mordric then back at Erim.
“His head is in a time freeze. How can I read his mind?” Erim smiled.
“Unfreeze him.” Dani nodded and stepped back a few feet along with Erim and Acanthia. She snapped her fingers and unfroze his head. Mordric looked around anger clearly seen on his face. Erim came to Dani’s ear and whispered.
“Read his mind now.” Dani nodded looked at Mordric.
He is going to so pay for telling Dani to time freeze my head. What if I warm Popsicle boy up a little see how he likes that. Oh he is going to so pay. Here’s a fire ball big brother. Hope you like it. Dani whirled around to Erim.
“Erim duck now!” Asking no questions all three of them ducked letting a huge fire ball pass their heads. They watched as it flew into a tree engulfing it in flames. They all stood up and looked back at Mordric. He was fuming but he was also stunned at Dani’s quick warning.
“How the heck did you know I was going to do that?” Dani smiled and back away a little farther.
“Uh well you see that is a tricky question.” Mordric pushed past Erim and Acanthia and walked straight up to Dani.
“How did you do that?” he emphasized every word slowly. Having back herself against a tree and no where to go, she looked at Mordric.
How did she know I was going to do that? Did she read my mind? Oh crap she is probably reading my mind now. Danielle if you’re listening that was so not cool. Dani smiled at Mordric and looked down.
“I can read minds. I over reached my powers like Kenna and I guess got the same power as her. And right now you are panicking that I am reading your mind and you are basically having a conversation with yourself.” Mordric looked at her taken aback. He turned his gaze from her and cleared his throat. Turning on his heels he walked to his brother.
“So are you and I going to do the same?” Erim nodded.
“Yeah if you don’t throw a fireball at me when you get a killer headache.” Mordric narrowed his eyes to say something then stopped and thought about it. He nodded.
“Yeah I would do that.”
“Alright fire freak your turn, but when you are trying to over reach your power shoot up not down. We don’t need a forest fire.” Mordric nodded and thrusted both of his hands up at the sky sending a tower of fire up. Sparks of fire came down but were put out immediately. Finally after about a half an hour he stopped.
“Dude this totally not working.” Before Erim could say anything Mordric fell on his knees clutching his head and screaming. The pain was so intense blood was coming from his nose. Dani went to comfort him but Erim pulled her back. Mordric painful screaming suddenly turned into growling and snarling. His eyes kept dilating and undulating. Finally after a couple of minutes Mordric stopped screaming and held his head while curled in a tight ball. Erim went to his brother and put a hand on him.
“Are you alright?” Mordric looked up at his brother. He stood up slowly and nodded. “What power do you have?” Mordric looked at Dani and smiled.
Are you alright? You had a pretty bad freak on. Mordric nodded.
“Erim what powers do you think he has?” Acanthia asked. Erim looked at Mordric then back at Acanthia.
“I am not sure. Mordric try and use your powers.” Mordric nodded and looked at the fallen log a crash of thunder was heard and a huge bolt of lightning hit the tree setting fire to it. Erim quickly blew on the fire putting it out.
“So you have the power of lighting.” Mordric looked at Dani blankly.
“No I have the power to grow flowers; yes I have the power of lightning.” Dani put her hands up.
“Sorry just asking.”
“So I am guessing it’s my turn?” Everyone nodded.
“There was a lake I saw not far away that you can use.” Dani said. Erim nodded.
“Fine but then we leave, we have wasted more that enough time.” They all nodded and followed Dani to a small lake. She stepped back and nodded to Erim.
“Ok do your magic.” Erim smiled. He stepped up at the bank of the lake and stood there for a moment the thrusted his hands forward freezing the ice immediately. Even when the water was frozen he kept freezing it.
“Is he still trying to over reach his powers or just making the water as hard as rock?” Dani asked. A huge explosion came from the lake sending water and ice flying everywhere.
“Mordric!”
“On it!” He flung balls of fire at the flying pieces of ice till they were all gone. “Erim did you over reach your power or no.” Erim faced his brother and the girls. His face was blank.
“Yeah I did.” Dani looked confused.
“Where’s the major headache?”
“Oh its here believe me, I can feel it. The only reason you don’t see me reacting to it is one I don’t feel like making a spectacle of myself and two I have a little more control over pain then you guys. We need to leave if we want to rescue Kenna. Now did she say where she was?” He asked Acanthi. She nodded.
“Yes. She is being held at the old St Peter hospital.” Erim nodded. Mordric grabbed his brothers’ arm.
“Well if you are not going to show how you truly feel with the headache thing can you fake it?” Erim look at Mordric like he was kidding.
“Are you serious? You want me to act how you guys acted?” Mordric looked at Dani then nodded.
“Yup” Erim rolled his eyes then crouch on the ground holding his head.
“Ah!” he screamed at the top of his lungs. “There happy?” Mordric smiled.
“Much.”22
Chapter 1023
Kenna opened her eyes and looked around. She was no longer on the operating table but in a padded room that you might put someone who has lost their marbles. She stood up slowly and walked around. Her legs were stiff and felt weird. There was no light in the room making Kenna feel her way around. Then her fingers touched glass. It was on a whole wall. The lights flickered on and she saw her prison better. It was a patted room like she suspected. There was nothing in the room at all. A huge wall of see through glass was the only thing that she could use to see outside and Antony stood in front of the glass looking at her smiling.
“You look almost like a caged animal at a zoo.” Antony said smugly. Kenna could hear him perfectly like he was in the room. Kenna glared at his and snarled at Antony.
“You jerk!”Antony smiled at her.
“Don’t worry little mutt, this will all be over soon enough.” Kenna’s vision kicked in pulling her from the real world. She saw herself in the cell watching Antony, and then it sped up. She was in a security room with screens that monitored her and different parts of the building. Then on one screen she saw Erim, Mordric, Dani and Acanthia walking in. Weapons decorated their body ready to rescue her. Mordric stopped and pointed to the camera and shot at it making it fuzzy. The vision ended sending her back to the present where Antony was droning on about how he was going to kill hybrids and enslave vampires and lycans. Kenna smiled at his and rolled her eyes. She needed to be strong and brave, not wimpy and scared. She needed to b a true hybrid. “So as you see it is pointless to fight because I will win.” Antony said finishing his monologue. Kenna narrowed her eyes and smiled.
“You can wish as much as you want. It’s not going to happen. We will win. Hybrids would rather die then die and I am pretty sure the lycans and vampires feel the same way.” Antony smirks and nods.
“And what makes you think you will win? Huh? Your in a room with no doors or windows except a glass wall that is pullet proof. So tell me little warrior how?” Kenna looked at Antony and remained silent. If she said anything, he would only question it and make her look like a fool. “Ah I have made the might hybrid quite. I will have to teach that to my men.” A light on the wall suddenly flashed red sending off a high pitched siren.
“Intruder alert! Intruder alert!” Antony turned and looked at the light then looked back at Kenna surprised. She smiled and crossed her arms.
“Have a nice time.” Antony grumbled and ran off heading to the front of the building. Kenna closed her eyes searching for Acanthia.
Acanthia! Antony is heading in your direction. Be prepared! There was silence for a moment making Kenna think that she hadn’t heard.
I’m not Acanthia. I am Dani or Danielle which ever you want but I prefer Dani. Kenna froze and stood still.
Dani? You can hear me?
Yeah who’s this?
Kenna. I need your help I am stuck inside an old padded room. There are no doors or windows except for a huge wall of glass that is bullet proof.
Don’t worry Erim and I will be there as soon as we can I promise. I won’t let Antony hurt my friend. Kenna smiled 24
Chapter 1125
Erim slowed down and stopped in front of a huge old building that looked more like a morgue then a hospital. If the old sign that read St. Peter’s Hospital wasn’t there, Erim would have thought he had the wrong building. Dan followed by Mordric and Acanthia looked at the old building.
“Yeah this has Antony all over.” Erim nodded but didn’t let a word come from his lips.
“What do you mean by that?”
“When we were kids, Antony would always be drawn to the creepy old unused buildings. One time we went to this graveyard to eat lunch. I guess it kind a goes along with the whole mosquito thing.”
Please tell me what you think
