She walked along the moonlit road. Her mind vaguely wondering about her parents and where they were. She was abandoned when she was little and though she didn’t like to talk about it, it did bother her sometimes. The family that adopted her were very nice but she could never stay with them. Not after she learned the truth about what she was.1
Her name is Lara. When she was little she started to grow what could only be wings. This confused her very much since she had never seen another human with wings. When she went to ask her parents if wings were normal they had told her to stop pretending and get ready for dinner. She didn’t understand. She wasn’t pretending and why couldn’t her parents see the wings. 2
That night little Lara laid awake, going over everything about wings that she had learned. Wings were on birds and they helped the birds fly. Fly. The word used to be so meaningless, just another sound, but now it meant a lot to her. She got out of her bed and spread her wings. She tried to flap them and slowly lifted off the ground for a moment before landing again on her floor. Her wings were still small and they weren’t strong enough to fly on yet.3
Lara laid back down in her bed and though more about wings. She remembered learning about creatures that had wings that look human. Angels. Again the word seemed to have a different meaning to her. She remembered that angels where the helpers of God. They had big white wings and could fly around, doing the lords biding. Again Lara looked at her own wings. They weren’t a pure snow white like the bible had described the others to be. Instead they one was a dark black with a few tips the snow white color and the other was white with a few black tips. Lara went to sleep that night dreaming about flying around on her little wings.4
When Lara was old enough she started doing research to try and find out more about angels and wings. She learned that there were such things known as the fallen angels. They go many names, dark angels, impure angels, the fallen, but they all seemed to be the same. They are the rouge angels that chose not to follow God and were banished from Heaven.5
Lara did extensive research over these dark angels and in a few mythological stories read that in order to distinguish the Fallen from the Pure angels the Fallen’s wings where saturated in sulfur. 6
She seemed to understand that that’s where the black came from but couldn’t understand what it meant that she had both black and white wings. 7
She read about how the Pure angels could never come in contact with the Fallen and if they did then their own wings would turn black aswell.8
When Lara turned 18, after years of research over angels, both Pure and Fallen, God, Lucifer, and other demons, she was confronted by a someone she had never seen before. The face wasn’t really the important thing to her though. For the first time in her life she saw someone with pure black wings. Her eyes went wide in shock as she looked at the man standing in front of her.9
He smiled down at Lara his eyes a dark red. “Follow if you want to know what you are.” he said in a deep voice.10
Lara had no fear of this Fallen. He seemed like he wanted to help so she followed him. He lead her down street after street until they became foreign to Lara. Finally they reached the door to a tavern and walked inside.11
Lara was stunned at what she saw. There were dozens of angels in this tavern, both Fallen and Pure. “But I thought that the Pure couldn’t interact with the Fallen and that their wings would turn black if they did.”12
The man that lead her here laughed lightly. “Those are just legends. We can interact but why aren’t supposed to. The Fallen were once the ones that didn’t want to serve God but that was centuries ago. Since then the Fallen have grown in population and most of the Fallen now don’t care who they serve. But because of their wings, tainted from generations, are not pure white they are not allowed to return.”13
“Aw, James, you’re back and you brought a friend.” The bar tender said as he cleaned another class. “Who is it this time?” 14
“Just a half that was raised by humans. No problems from her, I promise.” James replied now turning to Lara. “I know life must have been hard growing up alone and not knowing what you are and having wings that no one else can see but we’ll answer any questions you have.15
“Um… Why am I here and what am I? I know I’m not Pure or Fallen so am I a mix of both? And why can‘t other people see my wings?” Lara asked looking at James.16
“You are indeed a mix. Your mother was a Pure and your father was a Fallen. And I have brought you here to explain what you are and answer any questions you have. And as for our wings, well no one’s quite sure why humans can’t see them but we speculate its so we can walk among them and not be noticed.”17
This went on for hours. Lara ad so many questions and James could answer almost all of them. He would stray away from questions about Lara’s real parents so she quit asking about them. Once Lara had no more questions she left the tavern. She was welcome to come back at anytime if she found more questions.18
She went home that night and lay awake thinking over all the things she learned today. She finally knew what she was.19
Over the next couple weeks she made all the preparations to leave her life behind. She was going to find her true parents though she had no idea what they looked like. James was able to give her a name and that was enough for now.20
A year after she left her life to find her parents she still hadn’t gotten much further but she would never give up. She knew what she was but she wanted to find out who she is. She wanted to know who her parents are.21
She walked along the moonlit road. Her mind vaguely wondering about her parents and where they were. She was abandoned when she was little and though she didn’t like to talk about it, it did bother her sometimes. The family that adopted her were very nice but she could never stay with them.
