Now, 20 years ago, nobody had ever even heard of the nowaday " rap music" or hip-hop or whatever the hell it's called. We had classics like The Rolling Stones, Blondie, and the ever-popular Madonna. The 80's was a decade of sheer brilliant hits. Why do I think this?? Because most of the 21st century music sucks! Okay, some of the pop is decent, but none of it would ever live up to the pop made 20 years ago. The stuff I hate is the rap, it's not music! Chris Brown, Rihanna, The Black Eyed Peas, they're not artits!! Anyone can do that, it's not talent! Look way back there 30 years ago, now that is talent! Even though I am young, I prefer to listen to older music, because.... let's see, I don't see why people call this hip-hop crap music! Oh yeah, and the lyrics are nice too, pretty much all them cuss at some point or another and we don't need it for the children of the future!!1
I don't know if people my age will agree, but certainly 30 and 40 year olds would. What is our music coming to?? Jeezus. We need pure talent, people who can actually sing, like Celine Dion, or Shania Twain, not people who say words to a friggin dum kit and get paid billions and trillions of dollars for it. I hope someone agrees with it, because the music of 2004 and afterwards, in my opinion sucks.

Okay, first off, the Rolling Stones were not really popular in the 80's, they're more 70's. I agree with matthew, rap was heard of 20 years ago, it just wasn't quite as obnoxious as nowaday's rap. However, I do agree with the cussing part. Songs should not cuss and cuss, it's not being a good role model for the little ones. You are exactly right on that. AND, I also agree with the fact that rap artists really do get paid for almost nothing. But, I also agree with Social Suicide's comment, Rihanna and Chris Brown are NOT rap artists, they are R&B artists. Make sure you have your facts straight before you post an opinion like this.

The essential flaw in this argument is in the first sentence, because twenty years ago was 1988, at the height of 80s rap and, more prominently, hip-hop. It was also the year that NWA's Straight Outta Compton came out; that album was a milestone in that it was both the first gangsta rap album and probably the only one actually worth listening to, simply because it wasn't a lifestyle they were writing about, it was an inescapable existence due to racism and poverty.
Oh, but you're still mostly right. Rap is a genre that's quickly imploding upon itself and it's becoming more and more unnecessary and fake by the minute.
Unfortunately, most real talent in the world is held by obscure musicians while mainstream performers thrive on a modicum of skill and a deluge of good looks and trendiness.
