A Fine Line Between Love and Friendship

I sat in the empty tour bus writing in my journal, like I always did while waiting for them to finish up a concert. By them I mean the very famous Jonas Brothers. I have known them basically since I was born, and have been best friends with them all of those years since. I'm Briana by the way.1

I have to admit, the years before they were famous were a lot easier and less hectic, but they are living their dream. I support them no matter what. So when they asked me to come on tour with them, I said yes. It just gets very annoying sometimes, waiting on them to finish up a concert so we could hang out. I mean of course they would invite me to watch the show, but at times I just didn't want to deal with all the screaming teenage girls. 2

So I usually just lay back and relax in the tour bus, reflecting upon life and feelings. By feelings, I mean very complicated emotions. Lately I have been feeling stronger feelings towards Joe. Not that I didn't have feelings for him to begin with, but up until recently they were big brotherly type feelings. Now I was starting to really get attracted to him. Whenever he smiled at me, or gave me a hug, I would melt inside. The way his hair hung loosely in his eyes, how energetic he was most of the time, the fact that he always made me laugh, these were all reasons why I had a huge crush on him.3

I never told him though, because its really just plain ridiculous. How could I be in love with my best friend? One that up until recently I thought of only as a best friend. Why don't I feel this way about Kevin or Nick? It was all just so confusing, it gave me a huge headache. 4

I guess in the midst of all the thinking I had fallen asleep, because I was being shaken by someone. I opened my eyes and saw Joe looking at me, his eyes level with mine. "Welcome back sleepy head." he said ruffling my hair. I moaned and finally managed to lift my head up, glaring at him. 5

"You had to wake me? What time is it?" I asked while I yawned. I never liked being woken up, but for some reason whenever Joe did it I was a little less crabby. 6

"About midnight. Mom, Dad, and Frankie are all asleep. Me, Nick, and Kevin were wondering if you wanted to watch a movie in the back lounge?" he said coming over and giving me puppy dog eyes. I sighed and looked at him with doubtful eyes. I really wasn't in the mood to watch a movie, especially a ninja one if Nick picked it out. "Come on, your my movie buddy." he said smiling and taking my hand. Suddenly I felt like watching a movie. 7

"Fine, but no ninja movies." I said just as Nick walked into the living room area. 8

"You are no fun, Bri." he said grabbing a diet coke from the refrigerator. He glared as he walked into the back lounge. We followed him, and took a seat on the comfy leather couch. 9

"Okay, is 'Deep Blue Sea' okay with everyone?" Kevin asked popping the DVD into the TV.10

"Sure, people getting eaten alive by sharks, awesome." I said. I really did love those types of movies. 11

"Why are you two holding hands?" Nick asked choking on his pop. Me and Joe both turned red and let go of each other's hand. It was very embarrassing. 12

Half way during the movie Joe put his arm around my shoulder. No one seemed to notice, and I smiled. It felt really good, even though I had no idea what it meant. Finally the movie ended and the clock showed that it was 2:30 am. Right before everyone got up, Joe took his arm away, and got up and stretched. We all said our good-nights and got into our bunks. Kevin and Nick fell asleep as soon as their heads hit the pillow. Nick was snoring slightly which caused me to laugh. Then when I tried to go to bed, I was unsuccessful, I kept on thinking about Joe. It was like I couldn't get the picture of his handsome face out of my head for more than five seconds.13

Suddenly I heard someone calling my name. I opened my eyes and saw Joe's head looking down at me. "Hey, Bri, I can't sleep." he said.14

"Same here. What do you want me to do about it?" I asked yawning. 15

"You can come up here if you want. I need to talk to you anyway." he said. So I got up and climbed into his bunk, hitting my head on the way in. This caused Joe to laugh, and me to slap him playfully in the arm. Then I laid down next to him and he wrapped his arms around me. This was a very awkward position, but I sure wasn't going to object to it.16

I turned so that I was facing him. "What do you want to talk about?" I asked poking his chest. His cheeks became more red and I laughed. "Joe just tell me, you don't have to blush." I said laughing quietly.17

"Its just....I'm so confused right now. With my feelings and everything." he said looking up at the ceiling. I was getting curious now.18

"Your feelings about what?" I asked. 19

"You. Don't get freaked out, but its like suddenly I've developed these very strong feelings for you." he said sounding very embarrassed. My heart was beating a hundred miles per hour, was he saying that he liked me?20

"I'm not freaked out." I said trying not to show him how excited I was.21

"Listen, I like you Briana. A lot, but I understand if you don't feel the same way. Wait, how do you feel, Bri?" he asked with hopeful eyes.22

Some of the things I wanted to say were very gushy and romantic. I would probably embarrass myself with them. So I settled with a mild answer "I do like you Joe, a lot. Maybe even more than that." I said looking down, avoiding his gaze. 23

He tilted my head up, so that I had to look at him. "I love you, Briana." he said. And soon enough, his lips were pressed against mine. I was taken off guard for a moment, but then I started to get into it. I wrapped my arms around his neck, while he pulled me closer to his body. The feeling of his lips moving with mine was incredible, and I had always wondered what it would be like. 24

He then pulled away and we both grinned at each other. "I love you to, Joseph." I said laughing a little. Then this time I kissed him, this time more passionately. Sparks were flying everywhere, and I could tell that he was enjoying it as much as I was.25

Then we both pulled away "I think I can sleep now." I said trying to get off the bunk, but Joe held onto me.26

"Don't leave. Just stay here. I won't be able to sleep unless your right next to me." he said sweetly. I couldn't refuse so I slid the curtain shut, kissed him one more time, and snuggled closer into his chest. Then he wrapped his arms around me and began humming their song 'Hello Beautiful' in my ear. It mad me smile one more time before I slowly fell asleep. I was finally with the guy of my dreams and it felt amazing. I slept that night, better than I ever had before.
