Chapter 31
In an expensive loft just miles from June‘s apartment, a thin pale woman ran her fingers up and down the back of a handsome man. He shrugged his shoulder back, signaling for her to exit. “You act as if I disgust you, Cal.” The woman smirked. “Am I too much for you to handle?”2
“I detest you Desdemona, I’ve said it a thousand times and tonight will be no different. If it were not for your uncle I would kill you myself.” He hurried to a desk riddled with pieces of parchment, a single black candle rested atop the mess. “If you had been watching her like I’d instructed we wouldn’t be in this mess!” 3
“Hahaha, as if this is my fault? Instead of sending her ridiculous letters you should have just taken her yourself!” Cal was a devilish man, a handsome fellow but malice hid behind his eyes. And then, when angered by Desdemona’s foolishness, he let out an almost demonic shout. His voice deepened as he tightly clutched Desdemona’s slender neck. He whispered to her, his nails so tight against her skin, she began to bleed.4
“I cannot just take her, trust must be established. The circumstances are very delicate… but if those fools think that they have won they are sadly mistaken.” He released Desdemona and went to the door. “Now gather Markus and Holt, it’s time.” The door slammed behind Cal and Desdemona was left holding her already bruising neck. She closed her eyes and lifted her chin. Breathing deep, the veins around the wounds ran a deep purple and the cuts began to heal. Her eyes, once a calm hazel, were now clouded an eerie blue. They soon returned to normal as she wiped any traces of blood from her neck and left. 5
Marie had returned home accompanied by the Detectives, she began to brew a pot of tea when Michael’s cell phone rang. He left the room for a moment, then reentered with a slight smile on his face. “Adam, why don’t you take that powder back to the station. That was Phil from the lab, I told him earlier about what we found but he’s got a big load on the way, double homicide, so he said if we wanted this stuff looked at anytime soon, now’s the time. I’ll stay here for a bit and make sure Miss Piper’s okay.” 6
“…We’ll come to you as soon as we find something out.” Adam flashed a sympathetic look at Marie and then left. She began to babble about her and June when they were younger, places they’d go and games they’d play. Marie then turned around, extending a small porcelain cup to Michael.7
“Do you take sugar or cre…” Her words were cut off, the teacup shattered as she hit the tiled floor. Holt retrieved Marie quickly and placed her over his shoulder as if she weighed no more than a feather.8
Meanwhile, in the basement of an old condemned building, June woke gasping for breath, she found herself in a pitch black room. A single beam of light trickled in from the bottom of a large, rusted metal door. June rolled and struggled, finding her hands tied behind her back and a cloth across her eyes. She managed to wiggle her arms under her body and pull them out in front of her. When she began removing the blindfold she heard muffled voices coming from the other side of the door. She scurried to her knees and began feeling around the floor for some type of weapon. She winced as her left hand came across a piece of glass, it began to bleed. She picked up the shard and did her best to scrape it back and forth against the tape around her wrists. In moments she’d cut through enough to pull her arms free. Just then the muffled voices grew louder as they approached the door, it screeched an awful sound as her keepers turned the lock. June stood there holding the broken glass, frightened, she was ready to face her attackers. 9
“Look, not saying anything bad about you mate, I just think it’d be better for all of us if I went in first.” The man spoke, his eyes glowed almost blacker than an inkwell, which perfectly suited his matching hair. A very tall and very muscular man beside him sighed and shook his head.10
“You’re not Tom, you need to remember that. You can’t let the past get in the way of this one, we can’t risk her escape…“ He paused for a moment as the black haired man reached for the door. “Too many lives are at stake, Axis. We cannot fail. Tom Cutler is no more, he never was and never can be again. Do you understand that?” He placed his hand against the door.11
“Yes… just let me talk to her Derrick…please?” 12
“… Not until after I move her, the drugs probably haven’t even wore off yet. I promise you’ll be the first face she sees upon waking.” 13
Axis breathed deep and walked down the dark basements hallway then up the old, cracked cement steps. Derrick proceeded to open the door. Waves of bright fluorescent lighting crashed into June, making her squint. She sliced through the air, attempting to slash the figure. He caught her arm with his and turned her around, twisting it behind her. She dropped the glass and moaned, he quickly loosened his grip and she flung her head back, smashing it into his nose. Derrick let go of June and placed his hand over his nose, she turned and forced her knee between his legs, Derrick fell to the floor. June ran out and headed for the steps, but only seconds later Derrick was on his feet. She turned to see him just standing there, watching her. She slowly backed up the stairs but upon reaching the top step she nearly tripped over Axis. Startled, she flung herself around, her face turned white as tears began to form. “… T…Tom?” Her voice shuttered and her body trembled as the two embraced each other.

Yay!
More of this wonderful story! I'm so happy!!! I love it! ^_^ This chapter was even better! Who doesn't love a good kidnapping story? I know I do. Are they vampires, or demons, or what? You came up with some very creative and unusal names, I like that! So Tom wasn't his real name. Man, she's going to be mad when she found out that he lied to her... But then again, I'm guessing he had to?
