Alexis Night "When The Sun Still Sleeps"

The doctors and nurses transfer Kassie to a different room. Lexi stays in the waiting room after calling the others. Dozing off, the gang walks in scared as can be. “Hey guys,” they all look at her while Serenity sits by her and takes her in her arms. Ally, Amanda, Jessica, Paige, and Caitlyn all go and get something from the hospital cafeteria. “She needed help,” she speaks gently. “She carved it into her arms Serenity.” All she can do is cry, and all Serenity can do is nod.1

“I know, Alexis.” They talk about the other day when Kassie OD’d and passed out. Serenity only left out a few details. Before she can say anything, Ally walks up and speaks.2

“So did anyone call Chris and tell her bout Kass,” she puts the sucker back in her mouth not realizing what she just said.3

“Chris?!” Lexi shrieks out and the staff members look at her like she’s crazy. “Oops, sorry,” she tells them quietly. Turning to the girls, her face is cherry red and the girls swear steam came from her ears. “You did NOT tell me Chris was out. And you’re friends with her?!” Lexi is pissed off and everyone can tell. Ally’s face is so red, she’s embarrassed and realized she shouldn’t have said anything.4

Ignoring Lexi’s outburst for a few minutes, Serenity speaks. “Yes, Ally I called her. She wanted to come up here but she knew she shouldn’t because of Alexis. I will call her later and fill her in.” Lexi moves out from underneath Serenity’s grasp. 5

“You will not inform Chris about anything that involves my sister!” Lexi stands up and walks into the hallway and keeps walking away from the girls.6

“Her sister?” everyone whispers, except for Serenity. Ally notices first. “Serenity, what is she talking about?” They look like a group of little kids about to be told a secret. “Come on Serenity, you have to tell us what we don’t know.” They all nod and some even get closer.7

Serenity speaks in a low manner, just in case Lexi didn’t want anyone else to know the real story. “When Alexis was born, actually, before Alexis was born, her father, David, decided to cheat on Martha. When Martha found out about the affair, she cut off most of the ties between David and Alexis.” Jaws dropping, fists clinching, and people gasping. “As you know, Kassie and Alexis are really good friends, and have been ever since they were little kids.”8

Lexi quietly walks up behind all of the girls. Only Serenity sees her and just smiles. Serenity figured that she wants to learn about her sister as much as she can. So, Lexi just sits back without anyone knowing she’s there. “The only way I know all of this, is because Kassie knew when she was little. She didn’t have anyone to go to. Sometime in Elementary School, I believe fifth grade, a couple years after Kassie and I met, she wants to talk about everything.” All the girls picture themselves as little ones. They all knew each other ever since they were little girls. 9

“One day I can remember it like it was yesterday. Kassie comes over after school, she said during recess that it was the most shocking news ever and she needed to tell me right away.” Everyone keeps a smile on their face. Lexi comes closer and everyone around her just comforts her. “When we were in my bedroom that night, she starts going on and on about how close she is to her best friend. Then it hit me. Either she was telling me she was gay with Alexis, or she found out a secret about Alexis.” 10

A laugh escapes the others. “So that night, at that young of an age, Kassie knew Lexi was her sister?” Amanda asks so quietly. Serenity nods and quiets them down for the ending of her story.11

“When Kassie told me, she knew that she could never ever in her whole life tell anyone. I know everyone’s thinking, how she hid her last name.” Ally and Amanda’s face look exactly the same. Paige and Caitlyn are just sitting there astounded. “Heather knew that the girls were going to end up going to school together, so when she enrolled them in school, like in preschool, she changed her last name. Her birth certificate will always say Kassie Elizabeth Night.” 12

“I can’t believe she was hiding this from everyone. So Kassie knew ever since she was a little girl, that her best friend was Alexis. Her mother changed her last name when she entered school just so Lexi wouldn’t find out. David is just an ass because he has too wonderful daughters but only takes care of one, and never bothered to tell one of them about the other.” Looking from face to face, each look differs. “I still can’t believe this.”13

Doctor Watson comes in, “Alexis Night, I have information of your sister.” Lexi walks over to the doctor with all the girls coming up around her. “Girls, I only need Alexis.”14

“We don’t care, Kassie is like our family.” All the girls stand together strong not going to leave. 15

Irritated the doctor gives up and doesn’t want to fight a group of teenagers in the middle of the night. “Fine, whatever, I know you all worried about Kassie. She went into a devastated shock, with her blood pressure way up there, and her heart rate rose beyond the roof. I’m sorry to tell you this, but your sister is in a deep coma.” Doctor Watson takes a pause. “I will leave you alone. You guys are welcome to visit her room within the next hour then ONLY family members till tomorrow morning.” The doctor walks away and leaves the girls speechless.16

"When she wakes close my eyes, just for tonight," escapes her lips. One tear escapes her eyes, and Lexi starts to go off. Serenity goes to comfort her and Lexi isn’t Lexi anymore. “What did I say bitch. Don’t ever fucking touch me!”17

Everyone else except Serenity steps back. “Madison, honey, I’m sorry I didn’t mean to.”18

In a low murmur everyone whispers back and forth, “Madison.” “Thank you for calling me by my name,” she looks into the eyes of the other girls then looks around confused. “Where am I? Last I knew I was in this old house with a gay guy next to me half naked.” A laugh gently comes out of her lips and walks down the hall looking for food. “So girls, what good around here?”19

“Madison, I want you to go into a certain room. Will you go into room 203 and look at the girl in the bed?” Madison walks down the hall a little ways and walks into the room. “It’s a girl lying in a bed.” Now looking down at the face of the girl in a coma, before it hits her, “She dead?” then all of a sudden she falls onto the couch and starts weeping. 20

Serenity walks over to her and tries to comfort her. “Alexis, she’s just in a coma. I promise, she’ll wake up.” With that, all the girls leave the room and once again walk back into the waiting room.21

Still sucking on the same lollipop, Ally asks, “What did you talk about Madison? And dude, Lexi didn’t even care her sister was in a coma until she saw her. I’m so confused.” Sticking the lollipop back into her mouth, she shut up but still wants answers.22

“Guys, she is bipolar and schizophrenic since Stacey died. She won’t eat, and if she does she’ll just throw it right back up. I wish we could help her, but she won’t take medication. I don’t know how to help her.” Ally is just being a dumb blonde, while the other girls are actually caring about her. “The only that will probably help her, is Kassie waking up and if her and Blake can become more steady.”23

It appears like magic, Lexi runs into the waiting room screaming, “She’s awake! I don’t know what did it, but my sister is awake!”
