I peered into that Mary Poppins bag of mine. It seemed to just suck, EVERYTHING into it. Though it was kind of cool to find some “Hidden treasure” I thought was lost, exciting... 1
So I continued Rummaging for the keys. Aware that Dimitrie was watching. “Oh per-lease, say I have them.” I mumbled to myself Shaking the bag hoping to hear a jingle. Keys mean letting myself in, which means no Brian which means no unwanted 20 questions session from Dimitrie.2
A door closing sounded behind me. Oh god great. I thought wrinkling up my nose.3
“Having some trouble?” Dimitrie asked. He stood at the bottom of the steps, now only just shorter than me. Hands in his pockets peering up through his hair that hung, shielding his face. There was this strange feeling I got, seeing him there the dark that was taking over hiding his form. Some in shadow and some reflecting the slight light. 4
His cheekbones jutted slightly hollow. And those eyes, that peered though long lashes at my small figure resembled that of a creature. If you had ever watched a documentary. There was this fixated look the creature gave, where everything around dissolved. They had one aim. Watching intently, choosing its perfect moment.5
They, were the most horrifyingly beautiful and I couldn’t bring myself to look. He seemed. Unimaginably, dangerous. 6
Why I was thinking this i wasn’t sure and i did feel somewhat stupid for that irrational childish thought. But the way he looked right then made me realise, I hadn’t a clue who he was. But then again. I do over do thinking about little things.7
The wind caught up blowing. Raising the hairs on my neck, legs, back. I felt my body shudder and it jolted me back to the reality that he was infact. Still stood patiently waiting for some kind of a reply. 8
“Well I cant find my keys.” I muttered. “Is anyone home?” He asked. My stomach dropped. “I mean, you could just knock, hey?" He laughed stating the obvious point i had earlier been trying to avoid. And now i did feel, utterly stupid at my over reactive mind creating a load of mumbo. Like a kid insisting the man with a crooked nose on the bus really is, a men in black alien in disguise. No more late night movies for me. DANGEROUS!? Pssh I mentally scolded myself. 9
“Yes, but he, Brian goes all kung foo if you get him off his ass.” I lightly made a joke of it. 10
The squeak of the knocker tapping was deadly. Emphasizing the already awkward silence. Amelia was the one to open the door. And god, she looked a wreck. Her hair was tied back in a lazy attempt. Bits of dull brown hair escaping into her face. Which was parading a purple and green patchy bruise. Her dead heroin eyes flicked between the two of us. Knowing well that this would be disapproved by “HIM.” Background noise of the telly could be heard. The distinctive annoying announcement voice of boxing. I could hear Dimitrie breathe. He seemed so flawlessly perfect in contrast.11
“Evangeline,” Amelia spoke. "Who is this?" She looked vaguely interested. She would always have a smile for someone yet, I could tell she rarely mean it. “Dimitrie.” He replied in that charming little voice of his. She smiled, a real smile. “I like him.” She whispered grinning to me. Which he obviously heard. “Dimitrie this is…” I trailed off at the unpleasant sight of Brian who’s white knuckles gripped the frame of the door. He didn’t bother hiding his dislike of the situation. I gave a glare warning off Brain, a face that obviously said. Later. Not now!.12
I turned to Dimitrie. “Thanks Dimitrie.” I hoped that my face didn’t show the dread of this soon to be messy situation if he didn’t leave. Brain would throw a hissy. Dimitrie would think me “Pathetic” or “Fucked up” And the day to day routine of life would continue on. Without my newly acquired buddy. Which is secretly what I had been hoping. Because to be honest it wasn’t a thing I liked. To be surrounded by others.13
I inched my body forward to go inside. But a hand wrapped itself around my shoulder telling me to stop. “Mind, if I wait?” He asked in a “I’m doing it anyway” kind of tone. I had a feeling he was referring to the party I highly doubted I would be going to. His gaze had been focussed on Brian In some male dominance kind of thing. But it slowly lowered to me his pale lips set to a firm line. This was So not fun. 14
“Brian..” Amelia’s voice cut in she placed a hand on his arm as in to pull him back. But he threw it off causing Amelia to stumble back. “Get in.” was directed to me although Brian’s eyes never strayed from Dimitrie. Dimitrie pulled me back lightly placing himself in front. “I’m coming in, touch her. And ill kill you.” Dimities voice was low warning but as if brain was not a threat in the slightest.15
It was disturbing how he slightly clenched his jaw. And stepped one foot smoothly in front of the other in a slow taunting manner. His hand had somehow worked its way around mine the smooth warm skin heating up my own cold one as he lead me in with him. 16
Brian’s face heated red in anger and he grabbed at me digging in his stubby little fingers with such force. I felt stupidly helpless being toyed and pushed about, without saying a word. What could i say? This was all so unnecessary. 17
Brian’s body stumbled backwards into the wall, Tugging me along with him a bit before letting go. Dimitrie’s arm pressed against his neck and he let out a wheezy breath. He fought helplessly against Dimities strong less clumsy grip.18
The corner of Dimitrie’s lips playing a smirk. As he lowered his lips to Brian’s ear. Whispering steady perfectly formed words I wished I was able to hear. He was toying with Brian. I could see the amusement in his face. Who scared me more? 19
A sudden outburst of movement from Brain caused Dimitrie to throw him down. Brian’s body lay stomach first, his face turned towards Me. An expression I didn’t think I would ever see him possess. Fear. A small vibrant drip of blood slid through his lips.20
I then Realised Amelia had been tightly gripping my arm, her fragile body shaking violently. Her usually dulled sad eyes alert, transfixed. Dimitrie lowered his body to Brian lifting him slightly from the floor and gripping his face. The disgusting CRACK of bones sounded. Followed by a dull thud of Brains head falling back to the floor. I couldn’t move, couldn’t think. His head was now facing the other way in a unnatural angle. Body sprawled. 21
Dimitrie shifted slightly. Turning to face towards me. Amelia was tugging at my arm attempting to drag me towards the door. Inhaling more air than her body needed. She made a noise like a shriek. 22
My muscles started to work and hurled us both towards the door. But strong arms wrapped themselves around my waist pulling my back into the hard surface. Dimitrie rested his head in the dip of my shoulder his nose brushing against my neck making me shudder slightly. “I cant let you go Evangeline.” He breathed, hot air travelling down my chest and neck. 23
Amelia was crumpled on the floor her back resting by the door frame she rocked back and forth. Dimitrie turned my head to face him, like earlier. I remembered. “Close your eyes,” his voice was soft yet demanding. “And don’t open them.” I, for some reason did as he said. I felt him move away and the cold air found its way back. 24
After a while I turned away opening my eyes once again but not daring to look. I walked, wobbly steps towards Amelia trying to pull her from the ground I sat her on the sofa. She looked desperately towards me. There was a shuffle, As Dimitrie lifted Brains lifeless body from the ground. I put a hand up to Amelia’s eyes and closing mine tight shut. Waiting. Why didn’t I just run? I felt no sadness for him. Just a sick churn as i wondered what was going to happen?. 25
‘I cant let you go Evangeline.’ Dimitrie’s words played over in my mind. His voice haunting. 26
Something touched my cheek, Shivering I opened my eyes. The cold radiated off of him. He had been outside. Where was Brian’s body? The thought made me gag. His disgusting body was left to rot somewhere. Who would find it?27
“Where can she stay?” He asked looking at Amelia’s frightened form. He stood, Striding towards the portable house phone and handed it to me. “Call someone. Tell them something’s happened and they need to get here now” It took a moment to processed this, before slowly dialling the ‘Earn’s’ Faye’s parents. I knew no one else.28
Repeating the words down the phone, they shot questions which i had no idea how to answer. And so I ignored hanging up. Dimitrie’s hand wrapped itself around mine. I pulled away disgusted. “Get your things.” He spoke leading me to the dark stairs. I stood, unmoving. Until he placed his hand on my back pushing me up slightly. 29
Closing my bedroom door behind me. It wasn’t so hazy dreamlike anymore, everything buzzed, I rammed things into a bag. Reaching finally my ‘stash’ grabbing every bit of it I had, I placed it in a compartment. Leaving some in my hands I gazed down undecided. But then placed then too into the bag. 30
He stood hands in his pockets looking up at me standing a couple steps up. Just like before. But I didn’t feel so stupid now thinking how unimaginably dangerous he was. 31
I knew.32
Those last couple steps and I wondered what was going to happen. He Reached out catching hold of my bag and throwing it easily over his shoulder. “Say goodbye.” He spoke. His tone was strange, smooth. Causing me to almost give in. It was soothing. And then I realised what he had said. I pondered this for a moment confused. Goodbye? what the hell did he mean? 33
And then it clicked, Amelia, Faye, Elaine. I would see none of them. He must have seen the look of realisation cross my face as he gripped my arm. I struggled being no match, and fell feeling utterly pathetic to allow him to do this to me. He lifted me pulling me to his Body. It revolted me.34
I managed to pull myself from his grasp stumbling to Amelia who threw herself at me crying into my shoulder. “Don’t leave me, don’t leave me.” She repeated muffled. 35
And then he dragged me out. I saw her face, tear stained and beaten rocking herself back and forth. 36
The journey was quiet. Obviously for a while I shouted, hit, threw empty threats or pulled at the door. Knowing that it wouldn’t open and I wouldn’t be free. But still I would try. He would turn his head to look in my direction every now again. Finally he spoke. “I’m sorry.” I watched the trees pass. The dark creating an endless depth. He signed and after a moment, I turned to look at him. His knuckles white from the sheer grip he was holding the steering wheel with. I opened my mouth to speak before actually thinking what to say. So nothing came out. Another moment of silence passed and finally I replied. "Okay." There was nothing else to say.37
And so I went back to watching the trees. Without actually seeing them.38

I can take the criticism. I know this isn’t a very particularly good piece of writing. But that’s what I’m trying to do. Improve.
