Just Like You - Chapter 1

(I know I space weird, but it is just my way of separating dialogue because I have a lot of characters carry on conversations...Sorry if it is weird to you! Also the characters you have seen so far are vampires...I am very into fantasy, with witches and vampires and stuff. Enjoy!)1

Chapter 1: An Angelic Voice
We got to our new house in less time than I'd expected. We drove all the way from Napa, California to Los Angeles. The land of the fakes. I think I even saw some movie stars eating lunch but whatever...As we pulled up I couldn't believe my eyes. Our house was this ridiculously huge mansion surrounded by trees and old iron gates.
"All this for the three of us?" I asked.
"A lot of space will do us good..." Travis amended. "That apartment we had was too cramped."
I couldn't disagree with that...
"Are we enrolling in High School again?" I couldn't help knowing.
"Yup, Madison High...We start tomorrow." Travis responded.
Great...
I walked away fromm them and out the back door. We had an entire forest behind us, with a river bank that ran North. I walked along it until a sweet, sultry, singing voice caught my attention. I ran forward... toward that angelic voice that was calling to me. I approached her home carefully stopping just out of sight. And let me tell you, what I saw was anything but an angel. Looking through her bedroom window, all I saw was black. Black lace curtains, black satin bed spread with matching pillows, black furniture, even a black labtop rested on her desk. Suddenly, I saw her come in. She was wearing a black corset-like tank top and worn out blue jeans. That was the first color I'd actually seen so far. She walked barefoot around her room, iPod in her ears. Her long black hair swayed with her body as she danced...but I didn't care about that, even though she looked incredibly sexy. What stood out the most to me ws her voice.
(Her singing is in italics also. Song is Scary Love by Skye Sweetnam.)
What is love my love?
Tell me do you know?
To me it's dirt, and blood, and seeds
That's how my garden grows
What is this pain inside my veins?
It turns to frost.
Is there an operation please,
And how much does it cost?
Her voice melted me. It was so soft and delicate that it pulled me in from the very start. By the sound of it, she must have been singing since she was young.
This love is a...
Scary Love...
If I had one day left to live
I'd lock the doors and windows and keep you in
If I had one day left to live
I'd wrap myself around you and breathe you in
...Scary Love...
She stopped suddenly. Ripping the ear buds out. She looked around the room and then closed her eyes as if concentrating. Then to my complete surprise, she looked out her window directly at me.
No way! My mind shouted. She'd have to be a vamp (vampire)
to see me from there!
Unexpectedly, she walked over to the window and gave me a sly smile before closing her curtains. My mind was reeling! I was still pretty deep in the forest...she couldn't have seen me could she?2

Slowly, I walked back to my house and to my new room. It was extremely spacious and looked like an office. Leather couches, a recliner, and other various pieces of furniture were spread out around my room. I was about to kick back and relax when there was a knock at our front door. Soon after, I heard my sister Kylie go to answer it.
"Umm...hi" Kylie stuttered.
"Hi, my name is Dylan. I live behind you."
I froze. There was no way that was her.
" I just wanted to welcome you to the neighborhood," she continued.
" Oh thanks," my sis answered.
" No problem."
"Would you like to come in?"
" Sure..."
No! my mind shouted. I quickly ran downstairs and stopped at the bottom.
"Hey Brandon, this is our neighbor Dylan!" Kylie exclaimed.
Her bright blue eyes peaked out from her side-swiped bangs, and my breath caught.
"Nice to meet you, Brandon."
"Y-you t-t-too." I stuttered.
My brother called Kylie away for a second, leaving me alone with Dylan. She stood there, arms across her chest, un-smiling.
"Err...hi." I mumbled.
"Hi," she replied. She looked partly pissed. "You do know I saw you right?"
"Yea..." I answered, looking at the floor.
"Well, let me explain something to you..."
I looked up as she continued.
" I like my privacy, got it? Especially since I'm not always fully dressed in my room."
I gulped. "Sorry..."
"Don't apologize, just don't do it." She growled.
I nodded and she turned to leave.
"By the way," she added. "How much did you hear?"
"Not a lot," I admitted. "Just enough to know that you have a beautiful voice."
She looked taken aback, as if no one has ever complimented her before.
"Oh, well thank you."
"You welcome." I replied.
Kylie came back into the room, breaking our akward silence.
"Dylan, your leaving?"
"Um...yea, I was only allowed over here for a sec to welcome you. My parents probably want me back at the house by now."
"Ok, see ya around!" Kylie smiled.
"Bye Kylie, Travis...Brandon."
She left without another word, closing the door behind her on the way out.
"She has issues." Travis concluded.
"What? No she doesn't! She's so sweet!" Kylie argued.
"Uh Kylie, I'm an empath remember? She has serious problems, okay?"
"Fine!" she answered exasperated.
I still stood there in shock. Apparently, Dylan and I were not going to get along...3

Preview for Chapter 2:
As I approached, I heard a couple arguing, but immediately dismissed it. Afterall, I was in the heart of L.A. No relationship was perfect. But as I got closer, the yeling became clearer...and then I heard Dylan scream "Shut up!" at the top of her lungs. I stayed back, far enough to be invisible, but close enough to see the chaos that was unfolding. Clearly, Dylan did not have such a happy home life.

This is quite intriguing. I like where you are going with this. It does need a little work, but I see that you've been offered some help.

I'll come back and see if you have more chapters posted. Good work.

    Lis.

  • Kitty, we need to work on your transitioning. This was great, but.. how did he get to her window!? I love Brandon, and I love Dylan so far, she sounds like you. (Great song, btw.) Also, can I help you edit soon? (= I like editing and you don't need much, just a few commas! Loveyou<3.
