"As soon as I arrived, I could sense that something was out of place. Technically, it was pretty obvious; the door to my apartment was ajar, and I knew I'd closed it before I left for work. There had been a series of burglaries in my area, so I figured they'd decided to violate my place next.1
"Trying to keep as quiet as possible, I grabbed the baseball bat I had bought specially for knocking any thief's teeth out. I heard a sort of cough in the kitchen and without even stopping to think, I burst through, swinging for all I was worth. I didn't see the balloons and cake until my rampage was over.2
"And that, Your Honour, is why my friends are in the hospital and I am standing before you, being sued by fifteen people."3
Author notes
I know it's EXTREMELY short, but I hope the humor might make up for that.

Lol, I actually read this once, before it was entered into my contest. It's a good short little joke. I could imagine someone telling this around a table.

Humorous in First-person
What an interesting joke you made. I would like it very much that you join my group "Give a Joke and Kill the Day," and enter that joke in the reading list. I like this.
Ironic creativeness is never old! -

Nice job! At first I didn't realize that you were speaking and thought that you had accidently put them there, but after I read the last line, it all clicked! That was funny and the last line made me laugh! Keep it up!
