“Well that’s that.” A slim, tall girl of about 16 inspected the crate she had just finished packing. She had an amber complexion, chestnut brown hair, with green eyes framed by long, thick lashes with a smile around her lips. At her side was a young, white- grey lynx called Raya. 1
2
“I can put no more into the crate. I guess I better get Pa to lift it into the wagon,” she said to Raya “We don’t want to be the last ones in the caravan or we will get all the garbage thrown our way.” 3
Kaila turned toward the direction of the little, forlorn house and yelled “Pa I need help lifting the crate into the wagon!” 4
Kaila leaned patiently against the worn wooden side of the cart. A few minutes later, a man with a head of dark brown receding hair loped easily toward the girl and her companion. 5
“Well Kaila, I’m glad that you finally got the darn thing packed. I’ve locked up the house. I really hate leaving our home in the mountains, but war’s coming and…” Kaila rolled her eyes and turned away. She had heard this many times before. Her Pa kept going on and on about how they had to go to the city of Rohauk in the province of Salmburn, as refugees in order to evade the war that the up risers (a.k.a. The Tyrant King Mortus) were causing, taking over the country of Krylos with shadow warriors, instead of the old king’s soldiers. Salmburn was leagues and leagues away from Khanan, were Kaila lived. 6
No, used to live, Kaila corrected herself. We have to bring everything from our weapons and armblades to our furniture. Not to mention the whole town leaving. She chuckled. Although, Kaila mused Raf will be joining the caravan. 7
8
She smiled, thinking of how Raf had been wooing her ever since the Sol- Birth, the beginning of the year. This year, the year of 740 in the life of Rinathye, The Maker Of All Things, was going very well so far. 9
She walked over to the edge of the cliff that her house stood, promising herself one last look at the view she had grown up looking at all her life. 10
She looked over the breathtaking blue peaked mountains to the right, the luscious green hills and valleys to the left, to the tall, dark forests of Kahnan below. 11
“I hope I will see this place again,” Kaila sighed “There must be some way to come back after…” She looked to the small house, her one and only home. Ever since her mother left to seek better fortune in the capital of Krylos, Perimone, Kaila had been living with her father from when she was three. The little, now boarded up windows, the rough bolted wooden door, the faded brick. It was simple and crude, but it was still home. 12
Kaila turned to go and climb onto the wagon, but it was gone! 13
14
She looked around in confusion, to see Bess, the horse suddenly break into a gallop, her father was trying to sneak away. “ Come on Raya, we’ve got to catch up with Pa, or he will leave us behind!” 15
16
Raya sunk down to let Kaila climb on her back, then bounded down the road, racing towards the receding figure of the back of the wagon. 17
As Raya got closer, Kaila yelled “Not fair! You got a head start!” Kaila edged Raya until Raya jumped into the back of the wagon, not crashing into anything, and Kaila didn’t fall off. Pa called to the back of the wagon “I thought that you would be there until the Night Lady flew, so I decided to get going. But, now we must catch up to the rest of the caravan ,” He continued mournfully “for we have missed the town meeting, so we will just have to go on, without having had our ears talked off and droned to by the Council…” Kaila grinned, shaking her head at her father’s humour. 18
She strapped on her arm blade, a leather strap that goes around the wrist, with three lethally sharp blades the size of a dirk blade. Four leather straps with cloth went around the fingers, attached with mail, so the wearer doesn’t get cut with a blade by accident. 19
20
Then she looked down to make sure that the monotone tunic and trousers were tight, in case they had to slip into the forest, and they didn’t want anyone being able to track them. 21
22
Kaila sat with a crossbow in her lap and an armblade on her wrist, and her small shield nearby- just in case. 23
“Raya, I always have you, no matter what.” Kaila hugged her lifelong friend. “You are always there to protect me.” Raya purred assuring, as Kaila’s only home faded away in the distance. After a while on the road, Kaila and Pa (Alim)’s wagon joined the Town Of Khan’s Refugee Caravan on their way to Rohauk. In the next few days, Alim’s mind was on the prophecy that was told at his daughter’s birth, he remembered it as if it was yesterday. 24
“Two maidens, both powerful with The Light, shall meet in the most powerful Light battle in the history of Hileayn. One’s heart will be full of anger; hate and revenge, the others will be full of shame, sadness and remorse. Only one can be Queen of Krylos, and only then if they choose so, otherwise Kyrlos will crumble to dust.” 25
Alim shuddered. He didn’t like to think that happy, carefree, fierce and caring Kaila to be one of those two girls. The voice that spoke shook him out of his shadowy reverie. “Excuse me, Alim sir.” Alim looked up to see a tall, muscular boy of 18, with blue twinkling eyes and blonde, shaggy hair. “ Is Kaila available to talk?” Alim heard no stirring in the wagon. “Well actually, Raf, she is a sleep, but would you like to leave a message?” He waited for Raf to think about what he wanted to say. “Yes, please. Could you tell her that I wanted to say goodbye, because we are taking a different route, to Perimone, the capital instead of Rohauk. I hope she doesn’t think ill of me. If I see her before I go, there is something that I want to tell her. If you would tell her that, it would be very much appreciated, sir.” He looked into Alim’s eyes. Alim started. Raf had darkness in his eyes, like he was concealing a great evil, confusion, and anger. When he spoke next, it was with caution. “Of course I will, young man, have a nice trip.” He watched as Raf’s figure became a smudge in the darkness, and Alim turned to go and join the men’s campfire. Kaila awoke to stillness, as, her father had told her, that lay before any battle. A stillness where all the animals fled to safe lodging and the warriors prepared for the coming battle. Kaila looked over to see Raya, wary in stillness, her head up, tense. Kaila quietly strapped on her armblade, slung her crossbow over her shoulder and slid her shield onto her left arm. Then she put on Raya’s special bladed collar, and her little helm crusted with metal spikes for heading her enemy. At last she went to find her father, who was sleeping around the nearest feebly smoking campfire. 26
“Pa, Pa! Wake up!” She hissed. “I don’t feel right.” 27
28
Alim woke up at that remark. “What is it Kaila?" He swore fluently. "Damn it, we just couldm't get away fast enough. I feel it too. "29
30
But don’t worry, we’ll just pack up the camp, but we’ll be armed. Now go and wake the rest of the camp with me, but go quietly.” 31
Kaila nodded and slipped off the wake up the rest of the women, telling them one by one, what was going on, and what they needed to do. Soon the caravan was on the move again, aware but not obvious. Alim heard rustling behind them, observing the caravan’s movement. Gradually, everyone heard the sound of many hooves pounding the dirt road. All the women and children were sent ahead with most of the wagons, except for the men and women and youth trained in the art of war. 32
Alim and the other veterans mounted the horses that were left and made an arrowhead formation with the small band of “warriors.” 33
34
Suddenly Alim yelled. “The Shadow Warriors!! Get behind the carts and the mounted rally here at the front! HURRY!!!” 35
36
When all was obeyed and settled, the enemies could be seen racing towards the small band of resistence.37
38
Someone yelled “Charge!!!!” All the cavalry kicked their mounts and raced forward into the oncoming Shadow Warriors. 39
As the Shadow Warriors got engaged, many tried to slip through, to follow the caravan. But Kaila and the others shot arrows from bows, crossbows and longbows. 40
When she was out of arrows, Kaila rushed forward, attacking the nearest Shadow Warrior. It charged, and sliced at her with its sword, but Kaila got her shield up and swiped with her armblade, killing the Shadow. This allowed the dark spell to come out of the borrowed body.41
Kaila lunged to stab the second, unhorsing the third. Stopping to wipe her forehead and survey the battle, she saw the Shadow Warrior, staring at her, and then beginning to charge her. 42
Kaila threw herself out of the way as the Shadow whistled past, and duck as it took a swing at her. On the next passing, Kaila clawed it, killing it. 43
Then she turned and the last thing she saw was a Shadow Warrior racing at her, catching her unawares, striking her. 44
Kaila came into awareness to feel a sharp pain above her right ear, drawing her out of unconsciousness. She moaned and tried to roll over. But she found that her body was too sore and she struggled to sit up instead. She raised herself up onto her elbows, and looked around her. 45
She was alone- no one was in sight. The shadow warriors had taken the survivors, killed the wounded and left the dead. They were known for their cruelty and ruthlessness. But of course, they are evil spirits, after all. She must have been deemed dead. She mind called for Raya, and Raya came out of hiding, where she had been waiting where no one could see her for Kaila to wake up. She looked all over for her father’s body, but could not find him. She prayed that he had been captured. And taken to Perimone, put in jail, and tortured. Or he could have escaped with the rest of the caravan. 46
But as Kaila walked on, she found the wagons, all of them left there along the road. Numbness spread out over her body. 47
They took everyone. Everyone is gone. I must go to Perimone. Pa can’t be dead! HE JUST CAN”T!!!!!!!!!!! Kaila found her armblade; the button luckily had probably pushed itself as she fell. Her shield lay in the dust, but the crossbow was gone, as was every other obvious weapon. She gathered some food, blanket and rain cloak from the wagons, and any money that she could find. 48
Then she set out for Perimone. Alone. With only Raya as her companion, revenge, hate and anger in her heart. The warriors killed her father, and probably Raf and everyone else in the village. 49
“MURDERERS! They Must Die!” She screamed to the empty forest. Far off, a flock of startled birds flew out of the trees. 50
She would destroy the maker of the warriors, and she knew that it would be no easy task. With grief settled on her like a weight, and revenge black in her heart, Kaila set out to fulfill the prophecy. 51
52
It was unknown to her that her decision would set events in motion of a horror that she had never even dreamed of. 53
The kingdom of Krylos was destined to undergo the most bloody power struggle of all time…

This is very well writen and fun to read. I must suggest that you change the color and size of the font it was really hard to read and hurt my eyes.
-
Interesting story
I think you did a good job describing the action scenes. One suggestion I do have is that you change the size and color of the font. It was really hard for me to read with the letters so small.

-
That was so goood! What did Mrs. Mac give when you handed it in? A 4+ right??? As said in the previous comment your language, grammar and descriptiveness are amazing!!!!
