The young man proudly opened his closet. In it, prominently displayed, was a military uniform on which his collection hung. Tugging lightly on his shirt sleeve to reveal more of the brilliant swatch of color which had caught her eye, the young lady revealed the tunic's left breast full of ribbons. There, neatly, dazzlingly, aligned were: The Navy Cross, The Silver Star, The Bronze Star, The Distinguished Service Medal, The Legion of Merit, The Distinguished Flying Cross, The Navy Marine Corps Medal, The United Services Award, The Purple Heart, The Silver and The Gold Life Saving Medals, Navy and Marine Corps Expeditionary Medals, American and European Theater Ribbons, China Service, United Nations Commendations, and the Good Conduct Medals for the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. It made for quite an impressive display.1
"Goodness," she said. "What war were you in?"2
He cleared his throat. "I was actually in during peacetime."

Very Good!
This is a very cute and serious shorty. How did he pick up his purple heart? Some minor action that didn't count as a war, such as Vietnam? Thanks for directing me to this story. I like your humor stories best.
I don't write humor often. I also have trouble thinking humor, that's probably the reason I rarely write it.

Yeah, this actually was pretty funny, but I don't think that it's exactly what I'm looking for... -
*quietly chuckles*. How is it that someone could get so many medals in peacetime?
Refreshing.

I liked this snippet. The lead-in was somewhat long winded considering the conclusion was to deliver a one liner. Still you achieved your goal and very nicely, very amusing.
Talk to you soon---ablelaz.

Very witty, GA. I could read into this two points you might have been making; I'll opt for the second reason: carrots for donkeys.
I liked it, very clever.
