A very intelligent woman, by the name of Helen Rowland, once said "When two people decide to get a divorce, it isn't a sign that they 'don't understand' one another, but a sign that they have, at last, begun to." This explains the point of view of the parents side of things, but what if they have a child? Separation between parents is a traumatic experience for a child, especially in their younger years.1
My parents divorced when I was two years old. My first memory of my father was a year later. It was a Sunday afternoon, the sun was shining through the window, beams of light making the living room into a yellow glow. I Was sitting on the living room floor, feeling the hot rays of sun warming my back, hair and face. My fingers were creating a picture from the little pieces of puzzle. I was wearing a red dress, and my hair was falling in long curls down my back. I was not yet finished with the puzzle, when I heard the door open. Curiosity made me look up, and I saw my father smile down at me from the open doorway. He was wearing a white polo shirt, dark blue jeans and sneakers for shoes. The sun shined behind him, making his light brown hair into a golden blond. I had jumped for joy at the sight of my father, being there. I hugged him, and he had hugged me. I then remember bragging to him about the picture I was creating, and he sat down to help me piece the rest of the puzzle together. We created a vision of a father and daughter walking through the fields of green grass, picking beautiful flowers. The father had given his daughter blue lillies and to me that symbolized the next six years of not seeing my father.2
It may seem I would rather have my father in the main picture of my life. Yet, I must admit my life would be less satisfying with him in it. My dreams of being with my father have died when I became old enough to understand. Now, as I remember the one memory of my father and me. I see that I never spent a whole lot of time with him. Even though I see him from time to time, he's rarely there. Every major event in life happens for a reason, and I have figured out the reason for this one.3

Wow Kasey, I read this piece, and then after reading your comment, I read again and timed myself, it took a little under three minutes.
I think it is great the way it is, but maybe you could say at the end why you now know the reason for this major event?
Yet another great piece of work.
Take care because I care
