Sylver Shining Chapter 1

Waking up the wolf scans the trees. Seeing and sensing nothing she gets up and stretches. That was when all her memories flooded back. The smell of blood flooded her nose so profusely that she whined and had to lie back down. The taste of the fires and the screams of her people gagged her and she forced her eyes shut. It was so horrible… They were all getting slaughtered and there was hardly anything her kind could do about it. Fear flooding her veins she gets up and runs through the forest. Forcing herself to keep hope and clear her mind she ran back to the path that would take her home. Smelling fire still she runs faster than she ever has, even on a hunt. The sight she comes to forces her to her human form…1

The ground is covered thickly with blood. There were many fresh graves in the cemetery, enough to have made up a medium sized army camp. Falling to the ground she starts to cry. “Why…” That’s when it hits her. Her family is still in danger… If they’re not already dead. Slowly she walks past several burned down houses fearful of any lingering enemy... Her thoughts drift to her older brother and then to her clan. What had they ever done to deserve such carnage? She knew it wasn’t the humans that lived amongst them. They loved the Lunkind. That only gave her one other thought, but it wasn’t what she needed to be concerned with right then. She MUST see the fate of her family… So she started the walk home. When she saw the tattered state her house was in she almost lost hope for the others. That was until a little flying ball of fur launched itself at her from the burnt doorway.2

"Olivia??" Sylver questions with more hope than she could dare... 3

The young pup turned itself human and clung to Sylver. Hugging her little cousin a bit harder than was necessary she sat up nearly weeping with joy.4

“Livi, what happened when we scattered?? Are you ok?” She asked in a slightly hushed voice.5

"There was ‘lotta fighting and the elders and adults ran to help, the Protectors got the humans away safely but there was still blood....and lots of it..." the little one cried into Sylver’s shoulder.6

"What of the Kuru?"7

"Not sure... When we regrouped and realized you were gone daddy took charge and sent them to look for you. They’ve not come back yet."8

Sylver stood up changing her grip to keep the little one in her arms only more comfortably. She looked around the town and then back at her house.9

“Did they leave you alone?”10

“No. I took off.” Olivia sniffled as she ran her arm over her nose and looked at Sylver. “Everyone is in the hold, it’s the safe place for now and it’s able to keep us all. The dead were buried this morning, that’s when what’s left of our kind went to clean up. The humans stayed there, they were scared enough for all of us.”11

Sylver started walking to the hold that Olivia was talking about. It’s understandable that it was her kind that cleaned up. They were a hardy race and would be able to sense intruders before the humans; it would’ve been too dangerous for them to have left. Sylver kept her senses on the area surrounding them making sure it stayed safe as they continued their trek.12

“Syl?” Olivia asked looking at the older girl.13

“Yeah Livi?” Syl asked glancing at her cousin.14

“What happened to Veris?”15

Cold shot through Syl’s body at the question of the fate of her brother. It meant that he was still out there somewhere… Possibly even dead. Forcing back her tears she entered the glade where the hold sat.16

“I’m not sure Livi… I’m not sure.”
