Hanging on

Serianette stood outside this cold evening, looking up at the night sky. On her face was a small smile, something rather unordinary and unclear. Her turquoise eyes did not shine with dignity. Instead, they were dimmed from bitter darkness. She looked down towards the end of her street. Standing before her was a young man that looked to be in his mid twenties. He had dark hair and was slightly tanned. She squinted her eyes and gasped. 1

" What do you want, Kyle?" she asked with mere surprise.2

He did not say anything but only approached her. She backed away and looked at him, her smile fading.3

" I asked you what do you want?!" 4

He only shook his head.5

" I came to apologize," he said. Serianette stood there in solitude.6

" If that's all you came here for, then you can just go home. I told you before... it's over."7

Kyle stopped when he reached where she stood. A small distance stood between them.8

" Please, Serianette. I didn't mean for it to be this way. Alana was just being a bitch. I never cheated on you for her."9

Serianette turned away and laughed.10

" You're such a bad liar, Kyle." Her laugh turned into small, meaningful cries. Her hands parted away from her sides and up her face, covering her eyes. Kyle frowned. Had he gone too far this time? He stood still for a second, the cold winter breeze passing him by. He looked at her.11

" Serianette, I'm sorry."12

She just stood there, crying her tears away. Sniffle after sniffle, she finally gained the courage to speak up. Her head rose and her hands fell to her sides once more.13

" Kyle?" she asked. " Do you love me?"14

Kyle stood frozen. He approached her and hugged her.15

" Yes, I do." 16

Serianette shook her head and pushed him away.17

" If you do love me, then tell me, why did you do that to me? Why did you forget about me? Why did you leave me for Alana?"18

She turned around, tears still streaming from her eyes.19

Kyle only shrugged.20

" Listen, Serianette. What you're saying isn't true. I never went out with Alana. She only used me against you. I told you that I loved you, and I promised to protect you forever. Remember? If I had lost you, my world would end."21

Serianette thought for a second. She reminiscized about the past, about how Kyle and her would snuggle up to eachother and speak their thoughts. However, that was long before Alana came. She remembered the words he spoke, those soft, meaningful words: " I love you... I will always love you."22

Her tears fell faster. She could no longer hold the pressure within her. With a hard cry she fell to the ground.23

" Serianette!"24

Kyle rushed to her side and held her in his arms.25

" Kyle... I love you. I always have.."26

Kyle hushed her and assured her that everything was going to be alright.27

" Don't worry Serianette. Everything will be okay. I promise."28

He lifted Serianette's teary face and kissed it gently. She hugged him back and sat there, crouched on her knees.29

" Kyle, please. Never forget about me." 30

He smiled and leaned closer to her ear.31

" I promise."32

The following day, Serianette and Kyle went to school, holding hands and smiling. They were happy, everyong could tell that they were a couple in love. They walked down the darkened corridors and only waved when people looked at them. Everyone smiled. They were widely respected throughout. They continued to walk down the corridor when suddenly, Alana approached them.33

" What's this?" she asked. Her eyes were beaming of anger. Serianette only smiled.34

" Kyle, let's go."35

Kyle nodded. They walked passed Alana when suddenly, Alana grabbed Serianette's arm.36

" Bitch! Get off my boyfriend!" she said.37

Serianette only smiled.38

" He's not yours. He's mine." She shrugged off Alana's hand and stood there. 39

" Oh really? Then tell me, if he's yours, why did he go out with me? Don't you understand? He's mine! He's always been mine! He cheated on you for me!"40

Serianette shrugged.41

" Oh really?"42

She closed her eyes and smiled a cheesy smile. 43

Alana slapped her across her face.44

" Fight!" shouted someone in the hall. 45

Serianette rubbed her sore spot. Kyle rushed to her side and held her up.46

" You okay?" he asked.47

She smiled.48

" That didn't hurt one bit."49

She walked up to Alana as she was talking to her friends and tapped her shoulders, punching her across her face.50

" Ouch!"51

" Stay away from my boyfriend, you got that? Do that stuff again and I swear to goodness that you will forever be cursed. I will sentence you to eternal damnation."52

Alana only sighed.53

After that day, Alana never fought with Serianette again. Rather, they became friends and Kyle and Serianette were able to love eachother happily and freely.54
