The door hissed as it opened; I stepped out from the Cryo-bed and walked across the floor to the food stores grabbing out three packets breakfast, lunch and dinner written on the fronts of them. Leaving the cu‘partment to the hollow echoing of my titanium alloy shoes ringing throughout the vast lengthy hallways. 2
Work or as it is called these days CEP (“citizenship extension program”) that I was involved in was at a research facility that was endeavoring to recreate the myth called dreams. Which in the course of our human evolution, technical advancements and home world expansions had slowly became extinct like the many other amazing thing earth and other worlds used to accommodate. CEP for me consisted of taking many types of injections and undergoing numerous mind scans while being deeply asleep. 3
Failure after failure; never quite succeeding yet the research continued my CEP obligation remained the same, occasionally there was a blink of hope “We are reading higher brain activity then normal and we are getting some images.” Just flashes of things from our past like: leaves, trees, the ocean and animals. 4
The sting of the needle had long been lost to me and the minutes of floating sensations before I was knocked out… 5
This deep obsidian darkness wraps itself around me, nothing, nothingness holds me… Then whistling… wind softly touches my face running through my long brown hair. 6
“There’s something, we have physical contact… It’s WIND!” 7
The spray of salt on my face to the backdrop of flashing lightening and the ensuing thunder crackling across the skies… 8
The machines started sparking and then a great flash and bang “The circuits are fired, I wonder what it she is seeing?” 9
I smiled as the sun rose silently across the sea its warmth sunk into me radiating through my body. The pleasantry of sunrise was soon over… Turning around I stood facing a great forest full of trees and fairytale feelings everyone now longed to experience. I was bare, free of the synthetics and metals of… of… I didn’t remember what it was that was before this all I knew was I belonged. This reality was right. 10
The trees vibrantly displayed their greens, yellows and reds. Some had fruit, others flowers, even stomach filling fragrances drifted from their directions. I walked now among the trunks and bushes through the shaded breathing forest for hours, living, breathing… 11
“If we don’t do something she could be stuck like this for weeks get some scents maybe that will make her come to…” 12
There was a trickling up ahead. As I got closer it became clear that it was a river. Fresh water fell over a beautiful waterfall the misty spray danced around me then settled on my pale skin. It was cold, refreshing and amazing. 13
“She’s starting to sweat…” 14
Drinking down the water as I swam across to the other side of the slow, clear, deep river, something inside me longed to down here and now in this paradise but it was momentary. Stepping from the river I saw smoke in the sky above me and flames coming screaming across the valley. A flower caught my eye… an elusive ghost orchid rumored to never have had existed… 15
The sparks had started a fire and the flames were spreading. 16
I reached out and grabbed the flower holding it to my chest as smoke engulfed me. 17
I saw the world through the eyes of the past when my eyes were opened, screaming as I realized it was all a dream nothing had existed… The flames died as I came to some said. My hand was still on my chest the beautiful ghost orchid in my hand! And around me the world was dead humanities taint on the entire universe…18
