Wisps of Purple Chapter 7- Winter

Monday was warm, and beautiful. It was a wonderful day, flawless and gorgeous as can be. Heilia stared at Kael in amazement.1

"It's... gone...." she said in an utterly stunned voice, poking at his stomach. "How... did you do that?"2

He laughed, "I heal fast,"3

"Fast?! That’s an understatement!" she replied.4

"Would have healed faster if it hadn’t been reopened," he told her.5

She was still looking at the same area she had before, “Sorry…” she muttered poking his gut again.6

He laughed, “It was an accident, nothing to concern yourself with,”7

“Yeah, yeah… It can’t ever be my fault can it?” she peered up at him, “Would you rather I blame you for everything?”8

“Actually, I would,” he replied.9

“Of course you would,” she told him, moving away so he could pull his shirt back on. She reached for his hand and they continued their way home. That night wasn't unlike any other night; Kael stayed over for the night and morning came. They would go to school together, come home together, and it would repeat. It was a normal few weeks, and Kael was able to feed once, while he busied himself skipping a class or two.10

The two sat together, under a large oak tree, watching the sunset in the park; Heilia comfortable on his lap.11

"What happen to the other vampire?" Heilia asked suddenly.12

Kael looked back at her, "I'm... not sure... I haven't even heard his thoughts for a while..." he replied uneasily.13

"So he's gone?" she wondered.14

He looked away, "I don't know; I wouldn't imagine he would just give up and leave..."15

She snuggled against his chest, "Well lets just be happy he's gone for now..."16

He wrapped his arms around her, "Agreed," he grinned. He held her closer and she yawned. "I should probably be getting you home, huh?"17

She looked up at him, "Alright...." she whined.18

He laughed and carried her home. It was true that the creature that wished to claim both their lives had disappeared, in fact he hadn't seemed to exist any longer for months. It was now into the bitter months of winter and still there was no sign of him. Kael wasn't sure what to make of it all, but he was certainly uncomfortable with the sudden disappearance. Heilia hadn't spoken of him, in fact she rarely even thought of him. She was too caught up in her daily life to care much anymore. Snow covered park, which had become Kael and Heilia's usual hang out.19

She raced through the snow, coat and boots on to protect her from the cold, and threw herself to the ground, moving her arms and legs through the snow. He laughed and threw himself down and did the same, though he wasn't wearing a coat. They both stood up to admire their angels in the snow and Heilia bent down.20

"It's missing something," she smiled, as she drew a heart between both their heads and stood up to once more admire it.21

"Perfect!" he exclaimed happily, and they laughed in unison. She suddenly scooped a handful of snow up and thrust it in his direction. He quickly ducked out of the way and grinned back at her, "Missed me!"22

She picked up more and threw it, but he was out of sight and it exploded against the oak tree. She growled, "Not fair, Kael!"23

A ball of snow exploded at her feet and she jumped back startled, loosing her grip and falling back, though he had caught her before hitting the ground. Unfortunately, from a build up of ice, he fell back too. Both fell back together; Heilia falling onto Kael's lap. He grinned at her, snow on top of his head and in his hair. She laughed and pushed him back in the snow. She laid back resting her head against his chest, and he wrapped his arms around her.24

Her eyes suddenly widened, "Your heart..." she said suddenly.25

"What about it?" he asked.26

"It... beat..."27

"Yes, don't most hearts beat?"28

"Well yeah, but I thought... vampires.. didn't have heartbeats..."29

He sighed, "Myth! We d have heartbeats, they are just extremely slow... Usually the heart stops beating shortly after the bite, since the vampiric venom strikes the heart first and immediately starts killing the blood and it travels quickly. It leaves just enough blood in the system to keep the person alive and then it results in blood lust, which is where a vampire has no control what-so-ever and simply start killing... After they have blood in their systems the heart starts beating again, just at an abnormally slow rate," he explained.30

"Oh..." she replied solemnly, "Guess that means you aren't really undead, huh"31

"Nope, I'm definitely alive, I just no longer have my humanity and must live on the blood of others..."32

"So you eat too?" she wondered.33

"Yes." he answered.34

"Oh... I've never seen you eat..."35

"I don't have to eat often... Certainly not as often as you..."36

"Oh..."37

He rolled her over so that she was laying in the snow and leaned down to kiss her, "Maybe I could take you out for dinner tomorrow night?" he suggested.38

She blushed and nodded her head, then a shiver surged through her body.39

He grinned, kissing her once more and getting up, "C'mon its cold!"40

As soon as he turned around, a snowball hit him, "Didn't miss that time!"41

He turned around, "Now thats not fair!"42

She grinned and got up, "Yes it is!"43

He laughed and held onto her hand, "Fine, you win again..."
