Poison Paradise . Harry Potter fanfic

Aquinnah boarded the Hogwarts express, at platform 9 and 3/4.1

Her family didn't want to see her off. They
didn't support her decision to go to
Hogwarts. They didn't support any of her
other decisions lately, either. They didn't agree
with the lifestyle she had managed
to take up.2

The ones who didn't support her being, her mother, Yazabelle,
and her older sister, Sabina.3

The only one who approved was her oldest brother, Lucan. He
had just turned seventeen, while Aquinnah was eleven.4

Lucan had turned of age last year. He'd been turned
out of their family home. It was an unwritten law
in their society. He had to learn to live on his
instinct alone. If not, it meant death. At
least in her family. In the life her family led.5

It was Lucans final year, and she had to make the
most of it, before he left her forever. She climbed
into the nearest compartment. Lucan was already there.
Aquinnah glared suspiciously.6

"Don't do that Lucan. You're taking professor
Dumbledore for granted." She whispered, so
that only he could hear her.7

He grinned slyly. "They'll only think it's magic
dear sister."8

Aquinnah rolled her eyes. "Whatever."9

"So, Quinn, what house do you want to be in?" He asked her.10

"Whichever house is the least prejudiced of course."11

"So it'll be Gryffindor for you two then, eh?"12

As he finished his sentence, a smell rolled through
the door. A scent that Quinn couldn't quite identify,
and then, the door burst open.13

"This is an all Slytherin compartment, mudbloods." He
said, his nose wrinkling in disgust.14

"And who are you?" Lucan asked asked the blonde boy,
who Quinn finally realized, smelt like a ferret. She smiled.15

"I'm Draco Malfoy. You dolt." Quinn giggled. "Whats so funny mudblood?" He asked her, clearly disdained, that
he hadn't been able to ignore her presence.16

"Oh. It's just, that, I think your name, loosely
translated from Latin to English, means Dragon Scum."
She smiled, daring him to try anything.17

He continued to stare at her, and shook his head,
as if trying to refocus.18

Lucan glared at Draco. "Don't talk to my sister
like that again, Dragon Scum."19

After Lucan drew his wand, Draco and his cronies
left to find another compartment.20

"You know," Lucan said after a minute of
silence. "They're right."21

"Hmm?" She asked, not paying close attention.22

"Slytherins usually sit in here."23

"Do they all smell like ferret?"24

"No everyone has a distinct smell. Like ferret,
some species of ferret, their fur changes colours
in the winter. Changing, is mutable. Mutable is
moving. Like waves. Like the ocean. Like water.
Slytherins. Serpents."25

Quinn nodded, and turned her head to continue
staring out of the window.26

An hour or so later, she got up abruptly.
"I'm going to visit the other first years."27

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA28

She passed the first compartment, and a smell
wafted from beneath the door. Earth,
threatening to pull her in, to drown her.
To drown her in the earthy core of dirt, an
ocean, of unmovable water, unbreathable air.
Much like water. Badgers, horses, bunnys.29

But it was a developed scent. Not the first
years.30

The next few smelt the same. And then.
Insects, snakes, and ferrets, two faced
animals. And the same feeling, only colder.
Unfriendly. Deadly. A different deadly.
Uck. Malfoy. She thought.31

The next compartments were full of birds,
and breezes, birds of all kinds. Sprites.
Many Elementals of air. She could feel the
wind whispering to her as she walked. 32

The next ones were similar, and Quinn felt
her feet get rather cold.33

And then, a wave of warmth passed through her.
She smelt felines. Fire. And she could feel the
warmth of the flames licking her, but not burn her.
It was comforting.34

And, in the middle compartments, an undeveloped
scent. Stubborn falmes that refused to be
exstinguished. And strangely, weasels mixed
with fire.35

And a slight, barely noticable, whispered to her,
to take notice. Conficting with a flame. A bird,
that flying into danger, of a stubborn feline,
fully knowing the risk, taking a risk of losing
itself. Everything, to fight the flame. Feeling
residual air, strengthen it to go on, to fight
the fire, to perservere. Helping it.36

The compartment was open. A girl, who Quinn
recognized as the half-bird, half-cat, that
had bushy brown hair, was standing in the doorway.37

Her scent was less developed than the others,
and Quinn realized, that she was a muggleborn.
That would explain the conflicting emotions,
feel, and scent.38

She looked inside. First, she looked at the
small red headed boy. She felt a dim flame,
that refused to put out. Trying to grow. But
having no room to. No where could it go, that
others fires hadn't already grown. The place
that was reserved for him. The place that had
shrunken over the years. A little flame, who
wanted to be seen, seen for himself, feel,
feel for passion, to feel passion.39

She looked at the two other red heads. The
weasels. The weasels who were dancing in
the fire. Flirting, asking to be burned.
But they seemed immuned. They were
comfortable the way they were.
Their scent was more developed.
Much more so than the others.40

And then, she turned to the small,
scrawny, bespectacled, black haired boy.
His green eyes, they pulled her into his
essence, his scent. But she'd never be
able to describe it out loud. An
unknown passion. A flame, begging
to be bigger, with no help. Begging
to be seen as small. Insignificant.
A feline, waiting to pounce, to
protect anyone. A dragon, guarding
his mates eggs. A phoenix singing
a comforting song, that the beast
inside of her cringed at, but the
human part of her melted to hear more of.41

She was pulled into the present, listening
to the eagle-girl rant in a bossy voice to
the boys.42

"Erm. Hello." She said, trying to save
them from what they obviously thought
was their impending doom. "I'm Quinn.
What are your names?"43

"I'm Ron." The young red headed boy said,
hoping, his flame hoping, to be noticed.44

"I'm Fred. And."45

"I'm George." The other said. They
smelled slightly different, as Quinn
got closer to them. Fred, smelt of cologne.
While George smelt all natural.46

"I'm Harry." The black haired one said.
He smiled shyly at her.47

"I'm Hermione Granger." The eagle-girl
said stiffly.48

They all talked about what they thought
Hogwarts was going to be like. When lunch
came about, Quinn excused herself to the loo.50

She walked to her brothers compartment,
feeling the elements caress again. And again.
And she tuned it out, so she could concentrate.51

"How have you done it all of these years, Lucan?"52

He raised his eyebrows, waiting for her to elaborate.53

"The magic. The colours. The elements. The feel.
The caress of the way people's are at the moment.
Not eating in front of everyone?" She ranted.54

"To answer your last question, just simply
disappeare at meal times, everyone always
assumes you're in the kitchens. Except for
the feast. Everyone else is to wrapped up in
hunger to notice you not eating. If you need
to, perform a banishing spell on your food
when no one is looking. I know your magic
is beyond normal first years anyways. And
to answer the other questions, you learn to
get used to it, with it always there.
Though, it is a good way to tell if someone
is you know, evil or something." They both
laughed, at what must have looked like an
inside joke to an outsider.55

After lunch was over, Quinn held her brothers
hand, pulling him towards the Gryffindor
compartment, trying to ignore the sensations
her eyes and nose lay out for her.57

"Sorry it took so long. I went to talk to my
brother and have lunch with him, since it's my
first train ride. And, I brought him with me."
She smiled. "Harry. Ron. Hermione." She looked
for the twins, but they were gone. "This is my
brother Lucan. He is a seventh year, and Head Boy."
She grinned proudly. One of their kind, Head Boy of
Hogwarts.58

"Percy must really look up to you." Ron blurted
out to him. Lucan laughed.59

"He might this year, he has never liked me too
much before, except, the fact, that I was a prefect.
Ol' Percy must be over the moon. If only he knew that
I suggested him for it to Professor Dumbledore." He laughed again. "Well, I'm off, I have to conduct the prefect
meeting, with the head girl, Rosaly, Rosaly er, whats
her last name? I think it's Clearwater." He wiggled
his eyebrows before leaving.60

Quinn was disgusted by that. Of course he was kidding,
but the thought of her brother, her brother, strong,
willed, that could easily break things, doing that,
with Rosaly Clearwater. Uck.61

"So." Ron said, after ten minutes. "Anyone want
to play exploding snap?"62

The three looked at him questioningly, and he nodded.
"Riiight. Forgot. None of you know what exploding snap
is..." His voice trailed off, and he began to explain
the game to them.63

For an hour or so, they played Exploding Snap,
with outbursts from Hermione explaining the rules
to someone when they made a wrong move.64

It was clearly the eagle doing that. And being
in the presence of this girl, annoyed her quite a
lot. The conflicting was bad enough, but it was
even worse that the Eagle seemed stronger on the
train, with all of the others. It was exhausting
really.65

An hour more of playing exploding snap, and
Hermione said. "You three best get your robes on.
I think, we'll be there soon." And indeed,
Quinn could tell they would be, the lanterns
were lit, and outside, it was pitch black.66

"Well. I have to go back to my compartment
then. To get my robes. See you when we get off
the train guys."67

As she walked, she thought of the great day
she'd had with people her actual age. And the
scent, that Harry had. The fight inside of
Hermione. The urge and need for passion from
Ron. And she knew, that she would be at home
with them, no matter how exhausting Hermione
was, maybe, after she hung out with those two
for a while, she might have no more eagle left.
Just feline.68

She pulled her robes on, over her muggle clothes.
And she tightened her Hogwarts tie.69

And then a voice rang out through the train,
that they would be at Hogwarts in 15 minutes.
Quinn could barely contain herself, and started
to jump up and down from excitement, squealing.70

Fifteen minutes later, she was getting off
of the express, and looking for Harry and Ron,
and unfortunately, Hermione.71

She saw them, first, and then heard,
"Firs' years. Firs' years, over here." A big voice.
They were standing by the man who was yelling it.
As she walked closer, she recognized why she
couldn't see his soul. Giant Blood.72

"Okay." He said, as everyone gathered round,
and Quinn noticed, there was the ferret stink again.
"You all should gather inta the boats. They'll take
you, to Hogwarts. Under a cave. You'll get yer firs'
view of Hogwarts in a matter o' minutes."73

Quinn climbed into the boat with Harry, Ron and
Hermione. When their boat came around the bend, and
she saw Hogwarts, everything else seemed still to it.74

She could feel the magic in the air, and see it,
it was talking to her too. Not in the ways the
elements had, but it was comforting too. Like fire.
She knew it was a part of her. She knew, that she
could call this place home. 75

She could feel the water speaking to her,
beneath her, drawing the water people in.
Comforting them. She could see, then, the water,
all of the water, people, their scents, near the
bottom of the castle, the strongest.76

She could feel the earth surrounding the water,
pulling at the people who were best with earth.
And she could see, close to all of the magic,
a place where the earth had to reside. 77

She could feel the chilly night air, whispering
to her, and all of the birds, to join them. To be
comforted by their own type of people. A long tower,
right next to the tallest tower, had air flowing
through it.78

And finally, as they swept inside the cave,
beneath the castle, the fire, from the torches,
blazing the strongest. Making her stronger, less
tired. And she knew, that the founders meant for
their first entrance to Hogwarts to be this way.
And she knew, that somewhere above, was where she
would be residing.
