The High Five

"Give me five," I say to my best friend, grinning.1

His hand meets mine, but it's not the numbing slap I expect. Upon palm contact, his fingers slide between mine.2

Surprised, I let my hand drop. His comes with it, and he looks at our hands with a shy expression on his face. 3

"You know, Anne," he says softly, "I really like you. A lot. I mean... I may even be in love with you."4

Is this really my best friend? Is it truly real, when for so long I've only dreamed of this happening?5

I feel my face heating up at the thought.6

"Oh," I say, my cheeks a bright red.7

He raises his eyes and gives me a smile I have never before seen. "No need to get all poetic," he teases, "'cause you said more in that 'oh' than you could in an entire sonnet."8

I am stunned. 9

"Are you okay?"10

Swallowing hard, I reply, "Nope."11

He looks concerned, but I close the small distance between us and place my other hand in his.12

"Okay? Trust me, Nick, I’m more than okay," I whisper. "And I think I might love you too."13

His wide blue eyes sparkle happily. "Oh."14

    Lovely

I thought this was a lovely little piece, it perfectly shows the first flutters of love that we all experience and it brought a smile to my face.

    Well done.

I love it! lol it seems so real and so short at the same time. I know every chick wants this to happen to her at one point in her life. I know this from experience *.*

I'm terribly sorry I never judged the contest, and I've been feeling trey guilty, but as soon as I read this the only thing I could think was...AWWW! This tiny story was cute, adorable, emotion-packed and lovey-dovey, and certainly IM-icon-worthy.

It was amazing, to say the least, and thanks for entering! The contest should be judged by tomorrow.

Awww!! This is so cute! I could see it coming, and yet the ending kinda not shocked, but... pleasantly surprised me. :]

Emotions were good and the situation is SO CUTE! Y'know, I'm gonna bookmark it and read it whenever I feel pissed. What a great, adorable, way to start my day!

Thanks and good luck in the contest! Don't ever stop writing!!!
