Excert- Juneau's Good-bye

I reccomend listening to the scientist- coldplay while reading this story: http://youtube.com/watch?v=V3Kd7IGPyeg1

Juneau ran out from the corner, her face drained of all color. She knelt down beside him, placing both of her hands on the sides of his face. Tears filled her eyes and ran down her face, like diamonds rolling down alabaster stone.2

“Raymond—” she whimpered, cradling him to her. I could hardly watch, her agony gripping me with cold iron hands. His black blood stained her shirt and hands as she clasped his fingers in hers, shaking violently. Dominic didn't move, neither did Pippa, or even Ethan. Talise took a step forward, but thought better of it and stepped back. The dead lay scattered across the ground, pale and motionless, like limestone statues knocked off their pedestals. But no one was there to care for them. Only Juneau stayed behind, to watch over her Raymond. 3

“Should we do something?” Pippa whispered, her eyes staring unblinkingly at Juneau as she folded over with grief.4

“No,” Edon answered in a low, careful voice, “leave her. Let's go.”5

Dominic put a hand on my back and started to lead me out. I stared back at Juneau's tear streaked face before I turned out the door and down the stairs. 6

“Guenevere—” a shaky voice called. We turned to see Juneau standing in door frame, leaning against it for support. 7

“What?” I asked, confused. She looked so human now. The black of her eyes looked like a dull green, her lips turning a pale pink and her hair lightening to a deep brunette.8

“I was wondering if I could talk to you,” she said softly, her voice dropping off at the end.9

“Alone?”10

“Preferably.”11

I looked at Dominic, who looked back. He seemed reluctant, his lips curved into a disapproving frown. He turned his head back Juneau, shaking it back and forth. “Not alone Juneau.”12

“I will keep watch,” Adomae offered, stepping up to my side. Juneau nodded and walked back inside the building. I followed, Adomae at my side. Juneau curled up in the corner of the room furthest from where Raymond laid. Adomae stayed in the middle of the room out of respect, letting me go on alone. I cautiously approached, even though I didn't feel like a was in danger at all. She was too crushed to hurt me now. She gestured for me to sit, and I did.13

“What is it that you want to talk about Juneau?” 14

She looked past me to Ray, her eyes filling with fresh tears. “I think the hardest part is knowing where he is now,” she muttered. I couldn't help but feel a new wave pain for her. “Ray was damned from the minute he was born...”15

She turned her eyes back to me; agonized, despairing eyes. “I'm sorry, I didn't take you here to tell you about him. It's about you...now that you have escaped us, I have to warn you. I don't think that you are safe from the others out there.”16

I waited for the rest, feeling unnaturally calm. She didn't continue, sobs wracking at her chest.17

“Just be careful Guenevere, I know it's not your fault that all of this happened.”18

With that, she stood, looking as dead as the corpses around her. With a burst of black smoke, she was gone, taking Raymond with her. I got up and went out with Adomae. We returned to the group, silent as a breeze over a graveyard. I turned my eyes up to Dominic's and felt an ocean wash over me. He was my everything, and at the moment I couldn't imagine wanting anything else. Dominic was my life, my warmth, my all. I could never fathom losing him, the way Juneau lost Ray. 19

My destiny took me in his arms and pressed his lips to the top of my head. And I was finally home.
