Mom, 1
I have something to tell you. Before you yell, before you scream, before you kick me out of the house, I want to say three simple words:2
I
LOVE
YOU3
But what is love? People say love is the strongest bond, whether it is between two mortal people or two immortal spirits. But what does it mean, exactly? 4
Does it mean that the arms you have will reach out offering comfortable warmth and reassurance?
Or grasp me with disappointment and shame?5
Could it mean that the words you speak soothe my confused thoughts that roam my mind?
Or will the verbal be too much, like sharpened knives?6
What will happen next? Do you have the heart to keep me as your daughter, even after you finish reading this letter?
Or will you kick me out, afraid that this horrible mistake will be a blemish on the perfect life you worked so hard and long to create? 7
I'm afraid, mom. I think that goes without saying, but I could really use your help.
But will you give it to me?8
I need the answers. I need to know. I want to know. But will words escape your lips? Will the shock be too much to bear? 9
Will you respond like I am doing now? Caught up in too much fear to tell you. The truth that I yearn to reveal, yet keep the secret hidden for many more decades. 10
Frozen. 11
I'm pregnant.12
There the words have forced their way onto this piece of paper. 13
Tell me, what will you say?14
Sincerely,15
Your daughter
