Sage

I sat on a flat rock with fear that no one could possibly know. Above me with a certain elegants in its eyes was a huge ruby red dragon. By the look of it, it was more curious about me than eating me. I slowly crawled away while still looking at the strange serpant. 1

"what are you tryin to do?" the dragon asked clamly watching me. I stopped crawling and looked deep into the eyes of the dragon. Its eyes the color of water was as blue as an iceberg. The scales on its huge body sparkled in the sun making a red glow around it. "What are you doing?" it repeated. I opened my mouth to speak but fear took away my voice making a squeak come from it making me sound like a baby bird or for the time right now a baby dragon. A gentle roar came from the dragons mouth, which I later realized was a laugh. "I will only repeat one more time, What are you doing?" I opened mouth this time I spoke. 2

"I was crawling away." i gave the dragon a half smile while inside I shook with fear. The dragon chuckled and lowered its self to my eye level.
"You humans are very extrordinary. What is your title?" I looked at the dragon confused. My title? I racked my brain for what this ancient animal ment but nothing came to mind.3

"My title? I don't know what you mean?" The dragon signed.4

"Your name little one, your name." it said gently. I nodded. I tried to remember my name. Why couldn't I remember my name? Then it came to me, Kaida.5

"My name is kaida." THe dragon laughed loudly and what looked like smiled. 6

"My child do you know what it means, your name I mean.? I thought for a moment what the elders in my town had told me about how names tell what fate holds for you. I shook my head. 7

"Your name means little dragon." I was shocked. My fate really did tell me what it held. I was silent for a moment then looked at the dragon 8

"If you dont mind what is your name?" The dragon looked away at the sun that was soon going to set.9

"My name in my own tongue is one you can not pronounce but you may call me Sage." 10

"Sage." I said. The dragon smiled at me then went and laid down in the sun next to a huge bolder. 11

"Tell me of yourself little dragon." Sage said watching me. I slowly stood up and walked toward the female dragon. I was questioning myself if I should go sit next to the dragon or sit at a distance. "There is no need to be scared, I am gentle." With that confermed I walked to the dragon and sat in front of her so close that she could have easily swallowed me in a second.12

"Well I live with my twin brother and my aunt and uncle." I began. The dragon was silent. "I like to hunt and explore." Sage still remainded silent watching me. "I also like to read some of the ancient books on the unknown creatures like dragons, unicorns, hipogriffs those kind of things." Sage nodded and smiled. 13

"Do you enjoy the things you learn?" I nodded with a gentle smile on my face. 14

"I love it. My town thinks they are only bedtime stories to scare the little ones." The dragon smiled. 15

"Well now you know that dragons are not bedtime stories. Do your people enjoy scare the little ones?" I shrugged. 16

"Some do but my aunt and uncle dont approve. They believe that there are mythical beings out there. I am correct in saying they are right." Sage smiled and nodded. 17

"Would you like to hear the beginning of dragons and one of their enemies the manicore?" I looked at Sage curiously.18

"What is the manticore?" I asked. A cold shiver went down my spine as I said the word. Sage grew seriouse and looked at me. 19

"The manticore is a beast with six rows of razer sharp teeth who feeds on mythical beings eggs and baby animals that cannot fed for themselves. They also feed on humans. Almost every being hates these cursed things." Sage stopped. 20

"What is the matter go on tell me more. Tell me the begining of dragons." Sage shook her head.21

"Tomorrow little one. It is getting late and your family will be worring about you. Go home. When you come back tomorrow I will be in the same place." I signed heavily and nodded. I got up and turned to leave, but a thought came into my mind and I turned around and walked back to Sage. I bent down shaking with fear and gave Sage a kiss on her front left claw. I stood back up and looked at her with a smiled. Sage was surprised as a dragon could be.Before she could say a thing I turned around and rushed back home to tell my family about my experience. 22

I rushed back home faster than I have ever run before. I couldn't wait to tell my family, esceptially my grandma, what happened. When I had finally reached my home I threw open the door and ran to the feet of my grandmother. Her kind and gentle face with its many cresses smiled at me with brilliant eyes.
"What is the rush youngling?" I was quiet taking in huge gulps of air. My grandmother laughed heartily and patted my hand. "You must have run from ogars to be taking in air like a fish takes in water." I shook my head and sat on my knees.
"I saw a dragon, grandma, a dragon!" my grandmother grew silent and slowy drew her soft withered hand away from my firm strong one.
