“The werewolf's fate was...regrettable,” Gryn said when I got home. My eyes shot up and glared at him.
“The elf is an evil being,” I said, “He thought nothing of killing him.” I turned and ran upstairs. The elf had no reason other than making us mad to kill the werewolf. That made it ten times worse.
Oralyn was waiting for me upstairs, sitting on my bed. “The elf...killed the werewolf,” I said. She was not sad, and neither was I, just angry, horribly angry. Killing for a reason was justifiable, but killing to make someone angry, no...
Gryn walked upstairs and found us in my room. He looked at us both for a bit, shook his head, and left again. I followed, unable to handle the tenseness of my room.
“Gryn,” I called. He turned and looked at me. “How can we get back at him?” I asked. He thought for a moment then said, “I do not know...” and walked the rest of the way down my stairs. Don't know?, I thought, You can't think of anything?
I decided, finally, to let it go and move on with my life, so I began walking back up my stairs.
A scream rippled it's way into my ears. I ran up my stairs as fast as I could. My room was occupied by two people, two elves. One was Oralyn and the other...The council elf!
“Hello, vampire,” The council elf said. His hand had Oralyn by the upper arm, gripping her tightly. I glared at him. “How did you get in?” I asked. He chuckled, “Well, those plants were enchanted by elves!” His laughing increased and raised his arm. I narrowly dodged a fireball summoned by the elf by diving to the side and nearly smashing into a wall. The fireball flew past and burned a hole in my wall. I regained balance and flung myself at the elf. I collided with his barrier and was smashed backwards. My head hit the wall and my consciousness was nearly taken from me. I lay on the ground and could do nothing as the elf took Oralyn away.
~*~*~*~*~*~
Gryn woke me up after they had left. “I'm sorry,” was the first thing he told me. I sat up and stared at him.
“It is okay,” I said, “You did not want to be discovered yet.” He opened his mouth as if to say something, then stopped and nodded. I didn't care if that wasn't it, I just needed to get Oralyn back.
Gryn stood up and said, “Come on, we haven't much time.” I stood up and we both walked out of my house towards the council chamber.1
The elf walked Oralyn towards the center of the hall, where he killed the werewolf. The werewolf's blood was still caked to the ground, but he did not care. The Black Vampire must be punished.
Oralyn was in the Trance so she did not care either. She did not fight, did not squirm, nothing. Something constantly told her that everything would be all right. A total and utter lie...
The Black Vampire would no doubt be coming soon to try and save her, so the elf waited.
He looked at Oralyn. Her eyes were so beautiful. He had never taken the time to actually admire her beauty, but now realized that she was truly amazing.
The door to the room was smashed down. It's time now, The elf thought.
~*~*~*~*~*~
Gryn and I were running now to the humongous front door of the council chamber. We reached it quickly. I swung my leg around and connected with the door. It flew off it's hinges and smashed it's way into the chamber.
The elf stood with Oralyn in the center of the room, Oralyn still entranced and the elf looking our way. “Do not come closer, vampire,” The elf said. Ignoring this I began to run up to him. My minions appeared behind me as I leaped in the air. My huge jump landed me in front of the elf. The elf did nothing as I again attempted to punch him. The elf's shield cracked and my blow hit his cheek.
“How?...” He began, but I was on him again, this time kicking. I blasted him in the chest and he was sent sprawling across the chamber. He was able to get his left arm out in time to cast some spell to slow his fall, but his breath had been knocked out.
I ran to Oralyn and shook her. “Wake up! Please wake up...” I said, but to no avail. Her eyes stared up into space still.
Remembering what Gryn said, the only way to break the trance is to hurt the caster, I turned again to the elf. He was still gasping for air as I ran at him again. My foot flew out again but was blocked by something. The something was another of the elf's spells, for he had managed to get his hand up again. He stood up and muttered something. His hand suddenly glowed brightly. He pointed it, not towards me, but at Oralyn.
“No!” I yelled and leaped in the path. The spell hit me, blasting me across the room. Luckily, Gryn caught me and cured me before the spell could fully take affect. “Go...get....Oralyn” I gasped. He laid me down and ran over to Oralyn.
He smashed into another of the elf's shields and fell. “Dammit..” He muttered and stood up. The elf, smiling walked over to Oralyn again.
“I have to say, you put up a hell of a fight...” He said and put his hand on Oralyn's head.
“No...” I groaned, and tried to stand. I shifted myself into a kneeling position and ordered my minions to “save Oralyn”. There bodies easily shifted through the elf's shield and flew down to where Oralyn and the elf stood.
“That won't work...” Gryn said. His idea was clarified as the elf conjured up another shield. My minions smashed into the shield and dissipated.
“What a pretty girl,” the elf said. His hand began to glow.
I could not watch as the elf's spell destroyed Oralyn. I cried with all the tears I had left in my body. Oralyn...the only person who ever truly loved me...was...gone.
I looked up through teary eyes to see the elf standing now alone in the center of the room. I hate you, elf!
