The Swing Chapter Thirteen

The phone was ringing. Tom was waiting for Chalice to pick up on the other line. He was pacing in his room. They hadn't talked for a while and all he knew was she hung out with Ace and his friend. "Hello." It wasn't Chalice. 2

"Hey, can I talk to Chalice?" Tom was pretty sure he called her cell.3

"Uh, I don't know where she is right now." He could here music in the back.4

"Who is this?"5

"This is Ace. I think Chalice is probably getting something to drink. Ill tell her you called. Whose this?" That was the last person he wanted to know it was. Tom didn't like Ace very much, although he didn't give him much of a chance. Tom didn't find a reason to give him a chance, Ace just didn't seem like a person he wanted Chalice to hang with.6

"I'm Tom."7

"Oh. Well, Ill tell her you called, I'm sure she would want to know." Tom heard a click. That was weird, why did Ace have her cell? Five minutes later he tried again. It just kept ringing, not even Ace answered this time. 8

"Hello." Tom looked over to see his dad leaning on the frame of his door. 9

"Hey." He knew he sounded disappointed, but he couldn't help it when he was disappointed.10

His dad could tell something was wrong and sat next to him on his bed. "Did you really think her moving away wasn't an obstacle. Chalice is a pretty teenage girl. A teenage girl who might have the pressure of moving on." 11

"Dad!." He didn't want to hear this right now. Toms dad might be trying to help, but it was only making matters worse. 12

"I know, I know."13

"Yeah, you do know about situations, but not this one."14

"Well then who was the guy who answered Chalices phone?"15

"How did you know?"16

"Your face."17

"Ace, Who was that?" Dice was walking over to him as he hung up the phone.18

"Oh it was Tom, Chalice's boyfriend." 19

"Ah, got it. Are you going to go tell her?" Ace started heading over to the kitchen. "Where are you going?"20

"I'm going to stop Chalice from discovering our secret." Ace was looking serious and trying to get past all the people.21

"You don't think?"22

"Yes, actually I do." Ace tapped a girls shoulder who was singing all the words to the song. "June, follow me."23

"What? Why?" June could tell he was serious but what on earth for.24

"Our friend knows where the notebook is, and she was playing along with us so that she could sneak back in and check out whats going on."25

"How do you know?"26

"She walked in on Clark and I, she knew Tom was going to call, that's why she brought her cell with her when she never does and she wasn't there to answer it." 27

"Oh so your going to automatically assume - " 28

Ace interrupted her,"Yes. I'm going to assume the worst."29
