The Cement Wall - Chapter Eighteen

Chapter Eighteen1

The door clicked closed behind her, Roxanne had no desire to go anywhere so she waited outside of the door. Five to ten minutes past when Lefay came up to Roxanne with a cup of hospital coffee.2

“Why are you still here Lefay?” Taking the coffee Roxy began to take small sips of it. The hot, thick liquid didn’t settle well in her stomach but helped calm her nerves.3

“I couldn’t just leave, besides I knew you were either going to get kicked out for a little bit or just want a breath of fresh air so I wanted to stay for support. Besides Eddie and I are friends to a certain extent, is he okay?” She propped herself up against the wall and began to eye Roxanne over the rim of her coffee.4

“He could be better, and I found out what happened in the accident. The police are trying to find out who cut his brakes, the report on the car shows the brakes had been cut.”5

Lefay nearly choked on the mouthful of coffee she was trying to swallow. The nurse stepped out into the hall interrupting their conversation, “You can now go in Mrs.Pendragon.”6

When the nurse turned the corner down the hallway Lefay cocked an eyebrow at Roxanne, “you told them you were his wife?” 7

Not wanting to waste anymore time Roxanne walked into the room, she simply replied over her shoulder “No, they just think I am. I don't think its that important to tell them the truth.”8

Shaking her head with a little smile, Lefay walked away back towards the waiting room.9

“The nurse told me I would be leaving tomorrow. I just need to make sure the stitches in my arm stay under this bandage for a while so nothing affects it. And then I just need to get the ones in on my head and my arm removed.”  He wanted to reach out and just touch her, but he didn’t dare. She looked so concerned but he could see the love behind her eyes, if only he could find a way to get her to let the love out so it could be in the open. For the time period that they were separated all he could think about was her, it must be a sign that they are meant to be together.10

But before they can be together, they need to clear the whole mess up about the car accident. 11

“Well that’s a good thing, but are you worried about who it was that cut your brakes?” She dragged a hand through her hair as she sat back down in the chair by his hospital bed.12

“Not really” He wasn’t really sure, he just didn’t want her to worry about it. 13

When she gave him a look of disbelief he sighed and said “Alright, yes I am a little worried.”14

It hit her just then what she could do to help, and she was more then positive Lefay would agree to it.  “Look, since you’re a friend of Lefay and a friend of mine, why don't you stay with us. It would be nice to have another person around the apartment and we have an extra room you could sleep in.”15

He was going to decline in till he looked into her eyes, she looked as if she would make him no matter what he said. “If that’s what you really want me to do.”16

“It is, it would calm my nerves.” She realized the mistake she just made, and cursed herself for showing so much emotion towards him. She just hoped he didn’t see the love behind the words. Little did she know, he did.17

Silence took hold of the room, feeling a little uncomfortable with the sudden silence weighing down on him, Eddie spoke “You don't need to sleep in the hospital with me tonight if you don't want to, I will be fine. Plus it’s more comfortable to sleep in a real bed then to sleep in that chair.”18

“No I want to stay, if that demonic nurse will let me. She apparently already hates Lefay.” Eddie laughed at that, considering it he realized the nurse hated him as well.19

“Alright, but I doubt she will allow you. But it’s nice to have company.”20

The nurse came into the room, ending the conversation that barely begun. “Speak of the devil” Roxanne muttered so only Eddie could hear. He hid the smile on his face while he spoke to the nurse.21

After some persuading the nurse agreed to let Roxanne stay over night, she even set up a cot for Roxanne to sleep on. “I will tell the night nurse to leave you be.” 22

Once the nurse left Roxanne looked down at Eddie and said “Its odd how whenever you start talking about certain things she seems to walk in.”23

He just shrugged and shifted his body on to his side and propped himself up on his elbow. “So what do you want to do to pass the time Roxy?”24

“I don't know, but you need to sleep in order to heal.”25

“I’m not tired yet.” He said with a boyish smile on his face.26

Roxanne cocked an eyebrow at him and simply said, “Then make yourself tired because you’re going to sleep.27

Roxanne spent the night tossing and turning on the cot, and watching Eddie sleep. While Eddie on the other hand passed out as soon as the medication kicked in.28

Lefay awoke to the sound of a familiar male voice. Reluctantly she forced her eyes open, only to see Connor standing next to a skinny nurse with bright blonde hair that made Lefay cringe. 29

“Which room is Eddie Pendragon in, ma’am?” Connor said with a fake air of manners. He felt someone watching him and spotted Lefay sitting in a chair staring at him. 30

“I will go find out for you, sir” The nurse replied with a smile on her face.31

“Thank you very much.” When the nurse turned and walked down the hall, swinging her hips Connor’s eyes drifted down to her butt.32

Forcing her stiff body to move, Lefay walked over to Connor, trying to fight the urge to punch him in the face. “You perverted bastard, why the hell are you here? I don't work for you so I can tell you exactly what I think of you.”33

He cut her off by saying “Its nice to see you too Lefay.” The smile he sent her made her want to punch him even more. “And I’m here to see if Eddie is okay, and I knew Roxanne would be here since they are old lovers.”34

“How the hell did you find out about the car accident?” She eyed him suspiciously and took an intimidating step towards him.35

“It was on all the local news stations.” He said simply.36

“Sir, I found out which room he is in.” The nurse said as she walked towards them, sensing the tension between the two she tried to step between them. 37

“Thank you very much, ah..I’m sorry I didn’t catch your name.” He let his eyes wander down to her breasts.38

Lefay interjected, “That’s because you cant read her name tag, you idiot.”39

The nurse gave Lefay a look of amusement, “I think I should be leaving now, goodbye.” She hurried away before Connor could stop her.40

“Why did you do that?  I was on a roll with her!” He walked over to the chairs that were lining the walls; the purple cushion on them seemed hard and very uncomfortable. He wondered how or why Lefay had slept in one the whole night. 41

“Get the fuck out of here Connor, before I drag you the hell out of here by your hair.” She felt like a dragon protecting the entrance to a hidden cave, she enjoyed feeling like that.  42

She was beginning to annoy him, at first she was just amusing him. But when she stepped in front of him to block his way to the room his temper got the better of him. He wasn’t even sure why he was even checking up on Edward when he hated him with a passion. But Roxanne loved Eddie; he knew even when they dated that she was always comparing him with her memories of Eddie. It got to the point where he wanted to scream at her, but he was a mature man now. And he was getting over the fact that someone else held Roxanne heart. Connor had convinced himself before he came that he was just coming as a sign of truce.43

He should have suspected Lefay to be guarding the door. If he had been prepared for her, he could have brought something along to take her out of the way.44

She stood in front of him hoping to intimate him enough to leave. When she noticed him getting lost in thought she decided to piss him off even more and disturb his thinking process. “Are you going to leave yet?”45

He blinked then responded “Are you going to drag me away yet?” 46

It was so tempting; his hair was down and reached his shoulders. He usually wore it back but today he didn’t, so grabbing him by the hair would not be difficult. She reached out, not able to contain her anger any longer. Before she could grab a fistful of his hair, he had her wrist. 47

The dark green color in his eyes gained a new intensity. She challenged him by staring into his eyes. 48

“What the hell are you doing here, you scum? Let my friend go before I hurt you.” Roxanne stormed out of the room and right up into Connor’s face. He left go of Lefay’s wrist immediately; not wanting to start a huge scene he tried to usher everyone into the hospital room, but Roxanne and Lefay refused to move.49

“Why are you here Connor?” Roxanne felt the urge to lunge at Connor and rip him apart piece by slimy piece.50
