Before there ever was a Santa Claus delivering presents to all the children who were good. There was a young mail deliverer whose name was Santa Claus, he delivered mail in Alaska. One day while he was in a boat to deliver mail to Iceland a ferocious, thundering sea storm began. Santa could not navigate in such weather so he made guesses about where he was.1
In the morning the storm had cleared and land was sighted. Santa was so delighted that he jumped for joy, “Iceland! I cannot believe it! Whoopee! Maybe I’ll have a barbecue!” he cheered. But when Santa searched for houses and people there were none. The cold, snow-covered island was deserted. It was the North Pole!2
So Santa decided to explore. While he was strolling through the huge pine woods he tripped over a small rock and fell. He yelled for help, but he did not expect anyone to come. When all of a sudden a herd of reindeer approached. 3
An idea formed in his head he would drive a sleigh with the reindeer hitched to it! Because Santa was injured the reindeer let him ride on their backs to a two-storey log cabin with a warm fire.4
Elves were rushing around everywhere, wrapping parcels with coloured ribbons and name-tags, “Good mornin’ sir. What business you ‘ave ‘ere,” the elves chorused. “I-I’m injured and trapped, I need a job,” Santa answered, “You could deliver Christmas presents for the good children of the world sir,” suggested the smallest elf.5
Santa agreed and painted his sleigh a bright red and hitched the reindeer to the sleigh, “ 'Scuse me sir. You remember this rule. Always deliver the presents the night before Christmas when all the families are asleep,” whispered the elves. “I’ll be sure to,” Santa promised with that he gave a merry ho-ho-ho and the sleigh lifted into the starry sky. 6

I always wondered just how Santa got his job, now I know. Too bad about the injury but see.. nothing is all bad

OK. This is Christmas on drugs. A mail deliverer? In Alaska? That became a state in 1948? Hmmm. Well, it's the thought tht counts. I am going to ask Santa for some good drugs, next year. Interesting writing.
