Fate Ch. 2

Togusa was walking the hallways of the section nine headquarters having just got in from a mission with a cup of coffee in his hands. He frowned some looking out a window at the rain. Thank gods he had gotten in before it started. It was in that instant once he finished his coffee his eyes caught sight of a familiar female outside in the rain. 1

"Major." He said frowning. 2

What in the world was she doing outside in the rain like that? He knew the older woman was a bit on the carefree side but he knew she wasn't that carefree. Frowning some he ran to the nearest elevator and took it down to the first floor and went outside going over to Motoko.3

"Major...hey what are you doing out here your soaked." Togusa said taking his coat off and putting it around her. 4

After getting her inside and semi dried off he sat across from her in one of the empty offices letting her lay down on the couch as he leaned forward watching her. What was she doing out there in the rain? Had something happened? He hoped not. His brown eyes slowly glanced over at the swell that Motoko was probably absently rubbing at. A tumor? No it couldn't be that...And there was no way in heck she was pregnant, she was a cyborg she couldn't have been. 5

"Hmmm...What you got a wife and two kids of your own and a pregnant woman still surprises you?" Motoko asked. 6

Ok she was pregnant...wait how was that even possible? The major was a cyborg, full prosthetics and everything, well aside from her brain that is. But how could she be pregnant? 7

"Your pregnant?" Tougusa asked and gave a smile. "Congratulations...What are you having if you don't mind my asking." He said 8

"A little girl..." Motoko said and sighed some rolling onto her side. 9

"That's great I'm happy for you." Togusa said still noticing she didn't seem as happy. 10

"At least someone is." Mototo said softly brushing her hair from her eyes with her hand. 11

That was the reaction she wanted from Batou, or something similar. Truth be told, although she wouldn't let the others know, she was scared. The first cyborg in the world was to give birth in a few short months. That was one of the main reasons she didn't tell anyone but the chief. Her mind was still lingering on borderline denial that she couldn't be pregnant, that this was all a dream that she could wake up from. 12

"I know I'm probably prying an awful lot but...who's the father?" Togusa asked. 13

Motoko stopped stroking her stomach for a while keeping silent at that question. Batou was the father. But where he now? probably drinking somewhere. She could care less less right now.or pretend like she could. But she needed him there with her, needed him right now to tell her it was alright, and that he'd help raise this child they created together.14

"Batou is...he's the whole reason I'm in this mood in the first place." Motoko said frowning as she continued to talk to Togusa. 15

"Let me go talk to him, I'll bring him back for you." Togusa said standing.16

"Thanks....but its alright he can stay gone for all I care." Motoko said. 17

"Sorry but I can't do that, he's got a lover and Child to take care of he should be here with you...you just rest I'll bring him back." Togusa said leaving and going to the garage and getting in his car backed out and drove off to the bar.18

Batou meanwhile was sitting in his usual spot downing another beer as he watched a football game. He was going to be a father soon...him...a father? He still couldn't believe it Motoko was pregnant. How could she had kept this from him for so long and not tell him? He had a right to know darn it. 19

He frowned some and sighed. Dumb woman was always trying to take things on, on her own. He looked up after hearing his name being called only to find himself on the ground. 20

"How could you do that to her you selfish bastard?" Togusa said grabbing Batou. 21

"Do what to who?" Batou spat back angerily. 22

"Walk out on the major like that! How could you do that to her, she's carrying your Child." Togusa said. 23

Batou frowned some grabbing the Younger man and threw him across the room. "I just found out about it...she could have told me sooner, but instead she had to hide behind some damn excuse." He said as Togusa stod and frowned punching him again as the two continued in an all out brawl, going punch for punch and finding anything they could to get the other down. 24

After fifteen minutes Togusa frowned pinning Batou against the wall...how he did even he didn't know. "You had a wife and son all of us men have been down that road...some of us have those of us that have know how scary it can be. This is Motoko's first child and to add to that being a cyborg on top of that probably has her more afraid than anything, and you have the nerve to walk out on her." He said frowning. "She's still female inside...even she can show weakness right now she needs you." He said backing up and leaving the bar and going back to his car.25

Back at Section 9 Motoko opened her eyes frowning seeing Togusa come in with Batou and frowned sitting up. "What the hell happened?" She asked with a not to pleased look on her face. 26

"Sorry Major but I had to rough him up a bit." Togusa said seeing Motoko slowly stand. 27

"Here." Batou said going to her helping her stand. 28

Motoko frowned some as she leaned against Batou frowning some and nuzzled him burying her face into his shirt to hide her tears. Damnit why do I have to cry so much. She thought as Togusa left the two alone for a while. 29

After a long talk Batou came to an understanding with Motoko and took her out to a little cafe and sat down with her. "Hey you still never answered my initial question." Batou said.30

"Mmm?" Motoko asked.31

"How come you didn't tell me about our daughter?" He asked gently caressing her stomach.32

"One I still find it hard to believe I'm with child, two I was afraid you'd react the way you did and three my mind is still on borderline denial that this even happened...that I'm in a dream I can't wake up from." She said frowning.33

"Well its no dream...I'll be here beside you for the next few months and after the baby is born." He said.
