I swung my bow from my shoulder and mounted an arrow above the notch. I pulled back and released a streaking black arrow into the sky. The arrow zoomed downward and hit my target, an Am Fah assassin, in the chest. The poison began working immediately and his health began to deteriorate. I watched as he faught the poison away but soon he fell to the ground. My allies gathered around me to take on the larger group of Jade Brotherhood knights, now turning on us after the Am Fah fell. My allies charged and I held back to give support with my arrows. Soon, the knights were dead. We moved on and found a small outpost that was still in tact. We went in and met some of the people inside.1
“The two rivaling clans run the undercity, mate. There is little chance of surviving,” a tall man told us. The undercity was an area that previously was a magnificentely fun place to be. Clubs and other groups soon formed into two rivaling clans, the Am Fah and Jade Brotherhood. Both of them eventually took over certain slums of Cantha, only after most places were overcome with the Affliction. Before then the well equipped Canthan army could hold the Am Fah and the Jade Brotherhood off.2
The tall man turned to me and asked, “Are you the leader of this group?” I answered back, “Yes,” and turned to a bowl of stew. The stew was warm and the day was cold, it bit through my clothes. The tall man put his hand on my shoulder and turned me around. His eyes looked warm and friendly and he had an air of niceness emenating from him. He said, “Don’t go to the Undercity. Not now…”3
I wondered how I was going to get to Kaineng City if I didn’t, but voicing my objection seemed to be a bad idea. What I did ask was, “Why?”4
He answered, “It’s not only the two clans that are down there. Shiro himself wanders those parts, just waiting for someone like you.” Shiro! This was my chance to kill him and end this horrible affliction once and for all. The tall man obviously noticed my excitement and put his hands on my shoulders. “Listen, man, you cannot beat him now!” He yelled, sending spittle flying into my face. Horribly confused, I wondered what had happened to this man in his life that scared him so.5
“I have sworn to destroy Shiro, so I must go, no matter the risk,” I told him. His look changed from frightened to resigned. He was on my side, I could tell, but he did not want me to get hurt needlessly. He waved his hand and walked towards his hut. I had hurt him…
