Cliché Café’s Crème [Chapter Eight]

Somehow, the whole car ride reminded me of when I put ‘hung – over’ for the question ‘How Do You Feel About Going to Intermediate School’. No, I seriously put that. It was awesome. Then, the year after that, I put ‘holophrastic’ as my answer. Because everyone would sound that way. I did kind of get in trouble for the ‘hung-over’ one, but the kids were much worse when adults didn’t see them. With ‘F’ bombs and ‘N’ bombs dropping everywhere, my school can be a pretty nasty place. But I think I’ve already said something along the lines of that.1

To wake Ellie up, I poked her in the face again and dodged the punch.3

“We’re here.” I told her. 4

“Ca...Catnip?!” she yelled.5

I stared at her.6

“What the heck was I dreaming about?” she asked.7

“I don’t want to know, actually. It was probably as bad as when I dreamed about Syaoran and Sakura jumping over that river. Then they were lying in the grass spitting out and drooling blood. And they were smiling, so-” 8

“I don’t need details, Miyuki. I just woke up.”9

“So?”10

It was her turn to stare.11

“Okay, we have people on three sides – up, down, and to the left, so you have to be quiet.” Mom lectured us. “I don’t want any noise complaints.”12

“Yes ma’am.” I replied.13

“Ellie?”14

She didn’t say anything for a few seconds.15

The very first night, we had to go to their mall.20

“They better have a bookstore.” I said to myself. I then answered myself saying “Yeah, probably.”21

“But will it have a manga section?”22

“I hope so.”23

“If they don’t, the world is, of course, dead.”24

“The real question is, will they have good manga?”25

“Again, they better. It’s like Fai D. Flowright all over again.”26

“You’re weird.”27

“Yeah, I know.”28

“You don’t like me pointing out the obvious, do you?”29

“That’s why I don’t like it when people call me a freak. I’ve heard it so many times.”30

“Miyuki, stop talking to yourself.” Ellie, who was beside me, said.33
