The wedding

The day was perfect. The sun was high in the blue sky and there wasn’t a cloud in sight. Spectators gathered outside the stadium waiting for the gates to open so they could be seated. There was an exciting buzz in the voices of the thousands of rugby fans arriving.1

‘Sarah! I can’t believe were about to do this!! We have planned this since like forever!’2

‘I know!! Me and Danny and you and Richie. It will be great!’ Both brides giggled and hugged each other hard. They had been dreaming of this day since as long as they could remember.  Walking down the aisle together both looking beautiful with two gorgeous men waiting at the alter. The only problem with that was there wasn’t much of an aisle or much of an alter. They were having the double wedding of their dreams in the middle of headingly stadium, on the pitch which was home to the Leeds Rhinos rugby team. Both cross bars had been decorated with blue and yellow flowers and the mat which led to the makeshift alter was blue and yellow also.3

Instead of the traditional marriage theme being played on an organ many chants were being belted out by the crowd who had now began to file into the stands waving scarf’s and banners. As the day proceeded more and more people arrived and the wedding was underway.4

His face fell as the grooms made their way to the alter. He would have to show up and spoil the whole thing. I mean what does she see in him? All he has are big brown eyes and a great body from playing rugby all the time. I am so much better then that he thought selfishly. A grin slid across his mouth as he acted the stunt he was about to perform in his head.5

Sarah stuck her head round the corner and looked at both grooms waiting patiently for her and Lucy’s arrival. She smiled and turned to look at Lucy who was grinning from ear to ear.6

“Let’s do this!”7

The crowd stopped chanting as the blushing brides stepped out onto the pitch. They looked in awe at the beautiful young women then began to chant again. Richie and Danny turned round looking at their partner’s wide smiles spreading across their faces.  “Wait! Lucy, where’s Jenni, Emma and Lisa?” Lucy spun round only just noticing the absence of their bridesmaids.8

Meanwhile- behind the stands…9

“Is he in there? Oooo well done with the kidnap Emma!”10

“I know, he didn’t struggle. Must have been looking forward to it!” 11

The two girls giggled awaiting the unveiling of their prize; Kevin Sinfield.12

“Ok Lisa, he’s right behind that door- I tied him to a chair so he can’t escape!”13

“Oh good thinking Emma. See we’ve got this whole kidnap thing to a T.”14

Lisa stepped forward and pulled open the door. Both girls gasped at the sight of the empty chair, ropes hanging from the back.15

“Emma!! He got away! I knew I couldn’t trust you to do anything right!”16

“Me?!?! It’s not my fault. Maybe if you would have helped then he wouldn’t have gone!”17

“You said leave it to you.”18

“Well I tied the ropes pretty tight, he couldn’t have got away without help!” yelled Emma still arguing with Lisa.19

“Hang on…. Look at this.” Lisa picked up a glittery sandal matching the one she was wearing. 20

Emma looked at Lisa’s feet but was puzzled to see that Lisa was wearing too shoes and holding another one in her hand. Lisa looked at Emma’s feet and also saw that she was wearing two shoes. They looked at each other and a wave of realisation washed over them. They turned towards the door and in unison shouted “JENNI!”21

Back on the pitch…22

“Just carry on without the girls. They will be here” Sarah convinced Lucy.23

After holding up the ceremony by stopping halfway down the aisle Lucy and Sarah had finally reached their destination. They separated as they reached the alter to take their places by their partners sides. The priest was stood with his back towards the couples reading from what appeared to be a bliss magazine.24

"Minister Jones, if you please we would like to get this wedding underway."Danny coughed loudly and all four of them stood there in shock.25

“Bryony!” Sarah hissed “What are you doing?”26

“What do you mean what am I doing? I’m your priest for this afternoon.” Seeing the blank look on their faces she continued “I figured seen as I wasn’t going to be a bridesmaid in those horrible pink dresses that I wanted to do this job instead. I would still be a part of your special day and I get to wear a better dress then your bridesmaids.” She didn’t wait for a response. She turned around and picked up the book so she could start the service. Things were going smoothly and Lucy and Sarah were growing ever excited.27

“So does anyone have any objections?” Bryony shouted into the megaphone so the crowd could hear.28

“Jenni! I can’t believe she would do that to us, US! Jenni! Has anyone seen Jenni?” Lisa shouted then suddenly stopped when everything went silent and over 20,000 pairs of eyes were on her and her friend.29

“Oh Lucy, Sarah” Emma clasped her hand over her mouth realising what they had done. “I am so sorry, we didn’t mean to interrupt.”30

Lisa realised what had happened and burst into a fit of giggles. Emma grabbed her and managed to drag her towards the stands. 31

“Right. Where was I? Oh yes. Anyone have any…”32

“ME! I do!”33

Bryony looked up at a tall weedy guy stood on top of the crossbar.34

“You are supposed to wait until I have finished speaking!” She yelled back at him.35

“Oh right yeh sorry. Carry on”36

“So for the last time, does anyone have anyone have any objections? Right now you can object!”37

“Thanks. I object!”38

The crowd gasped39

“Well I don’t object to Sarah and Danny. They can get married and have lots of kids and do whatever. But Lucy and Richie, They can’t get married!”40

Lucy stepped back and looked at the man trying to stop her perfect day from being perfect.41

“What do you want?”42

“Lucy, I wanted to tell you that I’m sorry I am so late but I need to tell you that I…I…I love you. I have done since we met but I thought that I would scare you if I told you.”43

There was a massive applause from the crowd and a synchronised ‘awww’.44

“Who are you?” Lucy asked in a state of confusion.45

“I can’t believe this Lucy. I am here proclaiming my love to you balanced on this crossbar and you can’t even remember who I am! It’s me! Guy!”46

Lucy looked up. The gangly stance, the stuck up hair. She remembered him.  That familiar feeling of butterflies in her stomach. No! No! It was her wedding day. It couldn’t happen not on her wedding day. Her brain fought a war but she already knew which side was going to win. She smiled at Guy and he jumped down off the crossbar, picked her up and sprinted down the pitch.47

“Hey! Wait where do you think your going you little…”48

“Bitch! She’s over there I can see her. Jenni’s over there!49

“Emma, Lisa. Have you seen my shoe?” Jenni asked but by the looks on their faces they had. Jenni took off at a run before Emma and Lisa could skin her alive.50

The crowd screamed as a huge black helicopter descended close to the pitch, throwing down a wooden ladder. The sight was the strangest thing anyone in the crowd had ever seen. A double wedding on the middle of the rugby pitch. The girls getting married to two rugby players. One of them running off with a weedy man who she had obviously known. Now Guy was carrying his prize to the helicopter closely followed by and angry rugby player. Behind Richie, Jenni was running for her life with only one shoe on being chased by two of the other bridesmaids. If anyone had taken photos they were sure to be in the paper the next day.51

Guy grabbed on to the small wooden ladder and the helicopter lifted higher and higher. Richie stood there screaming obscenities at the craft, while jenni sprinted past him, jumped up and hung onto the train of Lucy’s dress. Emma and Lisa stood waving her missing shoe at the helicopter.52

“See ya later guys!” Jenni yelled as all three of them slowly made their way up the ladder and into the helicopter.53

“Lucy I’m so glad you came with me! I have been waiting for this day forever.”54

“Come on! Wait until we get there for that!” The driver shouted as Guy and Lucy moved closer.55

“Get where? And who are you?”56

“Lucy my dear friend. We are heading to turkey for the honeymoon. And you know who I am! How did you think Guy knew all about the wedding eh?”57

“Well thank you for stopping me make the biggest mistake of my life ever!”58

“Well what did I tell you Lucy? I knew you two were meant to be together!”59

“Wait until I get my hands on Jenni! I’m going to kill her!” Emma screamed at the disappearing helicopter.60

“Wait, if she’s up there that means that Kevin’s down here with us!” Lisa theorised.61

“I’m buying thicker ropes this time!”62
