CHAPTER 1
I woke to the sound of Fallenclaw, my to-be, yowling a meeting. I jumped up excitedly and ran to sit underneath tallrock. My mom, Violeteyes, followed much slower. "Today, one of our kits, Blackkit, is to become a cat In-Training. Blackkit, please step onto flatstone." I stepped onto a flat brown stone in front of her, my big shiny blue eyes looking at the reddish-amber and black to-be. "Do you promise, to uphold the she-cat and tom clan code and to protect these laws with your life?" I nodded. "Yes, I do!" I exclaimed happily. "Then from now on, Blackkit will be known as Blackpaw, until her defender ceremony in eight moons." Eight moons seemed like a long time, but I did not complain. I was going to be an In-Training, and that was all that mattered.
