Unspoken

She's one of those friends you clung to in eighth grade, but try so desperately to avoid now. She knows all your secrets, the ones that would spell out your demise if ever exposed. You both know everything is different, but neither of you know why. You have new friends and new secrets the other doesn't know about. You look at her and scoff at her happiness, even though you know it's fake. You envy her ability to not notice the hurtful remarks her "friends" make behind her back. She looks at you and gets jealous because you spend more time with her brother. She envies the close connection you and him share, even though she knows he will leave you broken in the end. And you know it, too. You can see it in her eyes. Just like she knows all her friends aren't real. She can tell when you glance at her with pity, then quickly smile and hope she didn't notice. 1

I seriously like this, it's just got something deeper that I can't quite put my finger on.
