Jason wrapped the heavy wool cloak around his lean body to hide two adventure books he had snuck into the airship. With all the computer technology and e-books, he still enjoyed the feel of a softcover book in his hands. A cool breeze blew across the dock as he bent down to exit the ship. He flipped the hood over his head since his straight, cropped brown hair did nothing to protect his scalp from the red dust mingled in the wind. The room was bustling with transporters and carriers loading and unloading cargo that Jason was overlooked.18
He wasn’t surprised that his presence was requested by the Armolons who wanted him to analyze an ancient scroll that was found on their planet. With computer technology and voice generated books and reading material, most people have forgotten the basics of reading. He needed to decipher old English dialect that was found on this ancient script and he was the best person for the job. His colleagues called him an antique for harboring works written by the great writers of time passed but Jason didn’t care. He was a lover of literature and nothing was going to stand in his way, not even technology.19
The stainless steel transport dock resonated under his thick black leather boots as he made his way to the large, obsidian doorway leading to the underground. He slipped away from the crowd and walked into the empty corridor leading to an old wooden shaft, leading further down. The odor of mold wafted his nostrils as he pulled on the cable to descend to the depths below. The Armolons loathed daylight as their thick jade skin, covered with thin layers of bony plates, was sensitive to UVA/UVB rays and, since the deterioration of the ozone layer, they have been quite damaging to their bodies. Their heavy claws may seem cumbersome, but they had surprising agility when it came to wielding a laser. 20
Jason was met by the chief commander and led into a small concrete room housing a single metallic table, a chair and a sconce holding three thick candles for light. The flickering sent their shadows bouncing along the walls. Jason spotted the ancient book sitting on the table and got to work immediately. When your voyage was prepaid and you were asked to board on the next trip, time was of the essence.21
