Ignite: An Analysis of Anna

5. species: fire bringer (basically, she is the element of fire placed into a human shell. She can create and manipulate fire and her tears and blood burn. Later on in the book, she loses control of her aeaeus (aka magic) and keep it underneath her skin so everyone who touches her is burned, with the exception of glacivirs (people with the same type of powers as her, only with ice and water) and fire bringers)5

6. appearance: originally blond, but dyes her hair red when the police are looking for her. Hair comes down to the middle of her back and is sort of wavy. Has round, large eyes, originally green, but uses colored contacts to make them brown when hiding from the police. Very short, and muscularly skinny. Arched eyebrows, thin lips, strong chin.6

7. origin: she grew up in a normal family, but after she loses control of her powers, she accidentally kills her mother, father, and sister. She runs away, knowing that she would be blamed by the police for the fire and ends up in sort of a haven for the strange and magical.7

8. love interests: has a bit of a love/hate relationship going on with a boy called Ivan, who is just as stubborn and sarcastic as she is, but neither one of them admit how they feel for two or three years.8

9. likes martial arts and weaponry, friends, animals. Dislikes flying, hospitals, seeing others hurt, reading, having men trying to protect her.9

10: virtues: would do anything to save a friend or acquaintance. Listens to others and is pretty understanding. Does what she thinks is right no matter what anyone else around her thinks.10

11. vices: quick temper and loud mouth. Can be rather insensitive.11

12. goals: to kill Sonia (the villain) and just to live out the rest of her immortal life without too much trouble.12

13. minor conflict against Ivan, major against Sonia (an ambitious human who through quite a few unscrupulous actions and giving up her soul has gained more power than any person should have.13

14. vocation/calling: to fight for good (geez, that sounds cheesy) 14

15. other: can’t keep things she thinks from coming out of her mouth (no brain to mouth filter) and though she gets angry quickly, she always feels sorry about it almost immediately. Has a long memory and can’t let go of things she’s done or things people have done to her. Holds grudges. Is a major tomboy15

Part II16

Anna shoved Ivan as the walked down the hallway towards the party, even though she was in her high heels. The exertion caused her to topple over towards Ivan. He caught her as she fell across, creating a very old movie-like scene. 17

“Ivan... if you go, where shall I go, what shall I do?”18

He pulled her up slightly and recited:19

“Frankly my dear, I don’t give a damn.”20

“Would you two please stop goofing off!” Letha groaned, and she hit Ivan across the back of the head with her black, beaded clutch.21

Trent sighed, “It’s really sad that I actually remember when that movie came out.”22

Ivan stood Anna back up. All four of the immortals walked out into the hall towards the ballroom.23

Letha and Trent walked next to each other, with Ivan and Anna slightly behind them. 24

“I was just thinking about something,” Ivan mentioned as they drew closer to the music and the light from the ballroom.25

“Hmm, that’s a rare occurrence, now isn’t it?” Anna taunted.26

“You’re on the ball tonight, Anna, have you been studying your comebacks? But, enough with the witty banter. I was thinking, as I mentioned before, I wondered how I was going to dance with anyone other than you if I can’t touch them.”27

“What, am I not good enough for you,” Anna pouted.28

“Anna…” 29

“I’m just kidding. I have a plan, but I’m not sure if I want to share it to you after you’ve been so mean to me.”30

She crossed her arms across her chest.31

Ivan looked at her seriously, “Anna,” he chided, “You know I didn’t mean any of that. I just have to keep up appearances around Trent and Letha around.”32

“Right…” 33

“You’re so pretty. You know that. You’re absolutely…”34

“Okay, that sort of sucking up is just plain disgusting,” Anna laughed as she reached into her gold clutch. She took out a bundle of white cloth and then clasped her bag back. She pulled out a long pair of white dressy gloves.35

“Ahhh, smart,” Ivan complimented. Anna handed him a pair of men’s dress gloves. Anna pulled her gloves on and Ivan did the same.36

“I feel a bit like Michael Jackson,” he commented.37

“I feel sort of elegant,” Anna tried to spin around and fell again. Ivan caught her for the second time in five minutes.38

Ivan put Anna back up on her feet, “You’d think that someone as good at martial arts as you are would be a little less of a klutz.”39

Anna shrugged, “You’ve never tried to walk in heels.”40

“As far as you know…”41
