Surrounded by night, the two walked together. Large stones marked the graves of those already gone. Warriors, fighters, husbands, wives, children. All buried around them.1
A certain respect filled the air as they quietly thanked the gods for keeping them alive. For keeping them together. Their hands searched for each other's in the night, and they held hands as they continued on their journey.2
They had traveled together all day, and surprisingly enough they had not been attacked yet. Paranoia sunk deep into her mind as she looked over at her love. His eyes darted around keeping an eye out for any dangerous threat that could be posed against him, or his love. He caught her looking at him and he locked eyes with her. She smiled softly, knowing everything she ever wanted to say to him was in her eyes. They never spoke of their love often, or of plans for the future. They didn't want to curse themselves by making it too well known to any certain god what it was they were hoping for. A few gods were aligned with cities, cities that were being fought against by the city they both defended.3
Soon they were making their way out of the sea of tombstones, the open sky above them gave way to the beautiful stars and the three moons that orbited their planet. They had grown up together, he had always protected her even when she sometimes defended him to boys twice her size. She was born a fighter and he had always known that.4
"We have made good time today." He stated. They had planned their trips assuming a few battles each day, and with the lack of battles they were well before schedule. She nodded and looked around to see if their was a safe place to stay the night. She spotted a good sized tree on the other side of the field... it looked to be large enough to sleep in. He followed her gaze and agreed with the spot she had chosen. He was endlessly attracted to her intelligence.5
They made their way to the tree and began to climb it, knowing their was a spot large enough in the middle for the both the sleep. The tree turned out to be absolutely perfect. Near the top their was a large enough area to lay down for the both of them, it was about a foot lower than the branches, so no one from the ground would spot them, and they would not fall to the ground in the middle of the night. They both looked at all the branches to see if any city, bloodline, or god had claimed the tree. When it was deemed safe they laid out their blankets and laid down together.6
"You're amazingly beautiful." He said to her as he wrapped his arms around her. She smiled up at him and blushed a little in the night.7
"I love you." She whispered before falling asleep in her loves arms.8
