Groggy eyes opened to the loud, annoying buzz of her alarm clock. The light shines dimly threw her translucent black curtains. Her head still rested on her black pillows as she stretched her legs, not wanting to wake up yet. As she turned her head, she groaned, seeing it was still so early. The clock read 6:00 a.m. as she hit snooze on her alarm. Long black hair fell to the sides of her perfectly shaped face as she sat up in bed. Eyeliner smeared under her eyes slightly, and her hair was only barely tangled. Her mouth stretched in a yawn, exposing her perfect teeth, with two fangs on each side, two on top, two on bottom, making a total of eight fangs. As her eyes opened again from the yawn, they shined a deep olive green with sparkles of excitement from life. Deep red blankets with black lace on the ends still covering up to her hips. She spun her legs to the side of her small twin bed, to get ready to face another day. Her body was perfectly figured, including muscle and figure. She had a nice hourglass shape, and firm C cup breasts, perfect, and not in the way when she fought. She worked on unbuttoning her pajama top as she walked to the door. Stumbling to the door, she pulled it open and rubbed her eyes. Her baby blue pajama set still loosely hung from her limbs. As she walked down the narrow grey hall, filled with hanging pictures of past relatives, she yawned. “Morning Jeric,” Enalia said tiredly. Jeric was her adoptive father, and had been for as long as she could remember. She never found out who her birth parents were; they hadn’t even given her a name. That job was left to Jeric, who blessed her with the beautiful name, that she honestly did love. Her family wasn’t exactly what you might call, “normal.” Even though she tried, she never could fit everything together. Enalia was just living as things went on. “Morning daughter.“ He sat downstairs on the couch, sword in hand. She also wasn’t the most popular girl at her school, even between her small group of friends. But, something you couldn’t deny, was that she was beautiful. Her black hair shined dimly as the light beams on her. Her flawless skin glistens in the sunlight, as if her skin was made of thousands of tiny dim diamonds. Her nails were perfectly cut, and black polish was flawlessly smooth, fluorescent green permitted from the tips of her nails; her toenails were the same. Her lips were full, and with a slightly tint of pink, when her lipstick was applied, it was a blood red color, but looked natural. Her beauty was incomparable, except by other Vampyres. 1
‘Ugh, must he do that in the house?‘ Enalia asked herself. Jeric was sharpening his blades and weapons.2
Rolling her eyes, Enalia went into the bathroom. It was a nicely decorated room. Lighting was no issue in this candle light room. The walls were a deep purple, and candles were hung on the walls in glass containers. If someone did choose electric lights over candles, there were some lights right above the mirror. The tub curtains were a thin black, over top of the plastic sheet that went behind it, to stop water from getting out. Beside the tub, was a glass shower, with an opening door, and tiled walls. She stripped her clothes, placing them in the laundry basket in front of the toilet, beside the towel bin. Reaching into the shower, she started the water, turning it to hot. After stepping into the glass casement, and closing the door behind her, steam soon fogged the mirror, and she resumed her daily cleanse. 3
Skipping steps, she ran down the stairs to make breakfast. Reaching the last step, a sword shined right behind her head, straight into the wall. Her smile faded as she glared at Jeric.4
“That seems fine I guess,“ he chuckled. 5
“You know, I honestly hate the fact that you use me for target practice,” Enalia grumbled, putting emphasis on the ending.6
“Awe, don’t be mad,” he said, standing to remove the sword, sounding oh so innocent. “It’s not like it could of killed you anyways.” The sad, and unfortunate part is, that he was right. Even if she had been struck, her Angelic half would of healed her when the sword was pulled out of her. Unless it decapitated her though of course. Or if she was burned to ashes, but, that had nothing to do with this sword.7
“Doesn’t make it right,” she hissed. They both stood there, watching each others every move, bodies stiff. At the same time, they both loosened again, and a smile spread on each of their faces. She gave him a small kiss on the cheek as she asked how he wanted his food, and went into the kitchen to prepare their meals.8
Eating quickly, she took the dishes, and placed them in the sink behind her. The kitchen was rather small, and the table in the center took up most of the room. It was a dark wooden table, with fake fruit in a large deep red bowl, on top of a blue decorative plate. The counters were relatively short on both sides of the steel sink, forming a right turned ‘L’ all together. The large black refrigerator was at the end of the counter, or the top of the ‘L.’ Slightly before that, was the black oven, recently placed in. At the end of the shorter side, white shelves filled the wall, with a bakers rack below, the white microwave resting on top. On the shelves, were several jars of powders for cooking. Enalia pushed in her chair, and put the orange juice back into the fridge, on the left shelf. She grabbed her training back, that secretly held hidden daggers and magic vials, and headed for the door. 9
“Off to Angelus’, ” she yelled, knowing Jeric would be able to hear her. “Be back at five!” She hurried out the door, hoping she wouldn’t be late. Running down the gravel driveway to her 2007 Ford Escape Hybrid SUV, slamming the door to the house behind her with a flick of her wrist. Shoving the keys into the ignition, she immediately sped out of the drive way and down the road, in hurry to make it to Angelus, not wanting to be late. 10
Peering out the window of her truck, she pressed slightly harder on the brake as her truck slowly crept closer to her destination. Parking her truck under a large willow tree, she climbed out of the car, and grabbed her bag from the back seat, and ran for the woods. Three miles of pure forest, seemed to get very dull after a while and took too long for her to walk. She hopped over fallen trees, and ducked under small trees with their annoying thin branches that cover everything. Two miles in, she came upon the trail, and followed it, knowing what would be at the end. Eventually though, she pushed threw the last of the trees and brush, revealing a large open field. Luscious green grass was slightly tall, and swaying in the breeze. Trees circled the field, encasing them in a nice circular arena. Face lighting up as she saw Angelus clear across the circle, she jogged over to him, pacing herself to save energy.11
Angelus Darktree was her trainer, and grandfather. Even so, he didn’t look a day over twenty-one. He had yellow eyes, fierce and firm; yet somehow always held a kindness to them, except when he fought in anger. His name means what it sounded like. Angelus Darktree was a true angel at heart. But, unfortunately, he wasn’t an actual angel, but a Vampire; an old one at that. 12
Darktree is a certain “family,” that neither Enalia or Jeric belonged to. It was a powerful family of Vampires. They weren’t a family to be messed with very often. Enalia and her father both belonged to the Mandaron family.13
Slowly he unfurled his wings then allowed them to slip back into his back with a grunt. "Excellent, start with the basics go from there." The massive man moved lightly as his black shofu that was wrapped around his waist billowed slightly. His upper body, covered with scars, gleamed in the light as his yellow eyes danced. He brushed a blood braid away from his eyes then reached back unsheathing both Dawn and Dusk and carefully laid them to the side. Breathing in he smiled at Enalia. "Your move first young one, remember in every fight, if you are the younger it is polite to offer it to the elder but if your the elder, offer it to the younger, it will give you a chance to see what they have to offer." 14
Enalia nodded, taking into consideration what he said. She looked back up, then suddenly appears behind Angelus, her foot connecting with his lower back, kicking him forward. Angelus was taken slightly by surprise but rolls forward using the momentum from the kick to spring lightly to his feet. His eye brow raised slightly, "Excellent, excellent, a surprise attack..." With a lunge he gets inside of her guard, with his right arm he deflects her swing knocking it wide. He grabs her other arm and shoulder in a painful grasp and lifted her slightly into the air as the other arm gets knocked wide he drives his knee into her unprotected side and hurls Enalia away from him. Enalia lands on her hands and knees sliding back wards, gripping the ground with her nails. She stood back up, only instantly to appear in front of Angelus and lifts her leg to kick at his head while balancing on her other foot. "Too predictable! Faster, you must make it faster!" he yelled. With a swift movement he grabs her foot, using the momentum, slams Enalia into the Earth, causing a small split in the Earth, then nimbly leaps backwards awaiting. "Attacks like that are predicted my young pupil, consider using your shadows to your advantage on attacks like that...also aim low, must opponents will remember you to come high." Looking at him, she nodded once slowly, sinking into the ground. Her hands reach up from the ground and grabbed Angelus’ ankles and pulled him under the ground with her, stopping at his waist. She then appears above the ground again waiting while standing in front of him Angelus smiled slightly at the Earth attack, and reminds him of Drifting and with a small chuckle he plots his next move. "Well done, elemental attacks are always well used in hand to hand, I am impressed..." With a savage roar his wings burst out of the Earth and with a steel grip he grabs Enalia rocketing upwards, reaching a certain point in the air, he lets go of you. But before a blink, a blur hits her side and causes her to start to spin, then again the same blur hits again, three times this happens before she suddenly stopped inches from the earth. Looking up, she see him smiling, "Normally after that move, I will drive them into the earth and drive Dawn and Dusk through them leaving them pierced to the ground..." Slowly he lowered Enalia and stands beside her. "Excellent job granddaughter...your first gift..." He said with a smile, reaching down next to his shofu, he pulls out a red powder, softly breathing into it, it becomes alive and moving in his hands. He smiles slightly then whispers to it, “this is a very old friend of mine, he will help you, everything will be more automatic for you when he is with you, he will teach you as you progress.." With another whisper, the powdered form becomes solid and then he took Enalia’s shoulder, stripped away a piece of cloth and places the creature there. There was a moment of pain as it slides under her skin then it's calm. The red mark of a warrior carrying a sword and shield rests on her shoulder now. Enalia stood, and fixed her shirt after looking at the new mark, then turned her heard to Angelus. "Thank you sir. She bowed her head once to him respectively, then looks back up at him. Angelus stepped back and picked up Dawn and Dusk, his two marvelous swords. “Next lesson...weapons..." Enalia‘s eyes widened slightly at his last word. "Uh oh. I'm going to lose an arm or something.. " He smiled twirling Dawn and Dusk with ease around his body. "You won't...I've already cast spells on Dawn and Dusk to make sure that they won't slice deep enough to remove body parts like normal, they will though leave scars..." Enalia nodded once, and tugged at her jacket, pulling it off. Looking to the right, she tossed it, leaving only her tight black shirt. It stretched down to her waist, and was barley strapped over her shoulders. Faded dark jeans hugged from her hips to her ankles, tightly, so that they wouldn’t get in her way as she fought. "Alright Sir. You go first this time." He saluted her, by bringing up Dawn under his eyes and crossing Dusk with it, making a cross then bowed. "I honor you..." Without a moment's hesitation he launches himself towards her, bring Dawn low and then swinging high to catch her on her forearm with Dusk. Forcing her legs up, she spun her body between the blades. Landing, crouching, after they pass she gripped her ankles and pulled out small daggers, throwing them at his upper arm. A light chuckle echoed from Angelus and he danced back lightly, still spinning both of the blades. "Make a move, be offensive...I have seen your defensive...show me offense."15
"Yes sir, but I'm not the best at using weapons.." Eyelids fell shut as she sunk under the sand. Secretly, she rose up from the ground, barley though, with her blade in hand. Pushing a small dagger into his calves, she then sliced the blade across the back of his knees. Staggering forward slightly, with a grim smile, flips backwards and drives the handle of Dawn across her face and Dusk slices close to her head, with a laugh he holds up a lock of Enalia’s black hair. "Well done, keep coming, remember, all elemental attacks won't work well with weapons.." 16
Enalia gasped slightly seeing the hair, then glared evilly at him. "I just got my hair done!" Appearing instantly in front of him, blade pressed to his lower torso, but not wanting to go much further she let the blade down to hold it at her side, knowing this is only training. Angelus shook his head and with it, he flipped Dawn and Dusk up in the air. Grabbing the bare blades with his hands he two hand swings both of them with the handles into her temple sending her clear across the field. As she crashed into the ground, she remained there, too exhausted to move. Opening her eyes, she saw him kneeling over her body, and was slightly startled. "My granddaughter... you must learn to strike no matter what... even if it is family..." Gently he reaches down and took her hands, helping her up. She stumbled slightly as she stood, and watched him with tired eyes, "we have much to work on with you," he continued. 17
"Yes sir,” she mumbled, pressing her hand to her head. "Ugh. My headache is even worse now..”18
Grimacing, he paused momentarily. "Go, rest...we will continue this later when your well.. go heal yourself and rest your body, I've taken you through much…” Sitting down quietly in the middle of the stadium he crossed his legs and slowly levitated himself, concentrating as Dawn and Dusk rest in front of him. Sighing thankfully, she went back over to grab her bag, and said her farewells to Angelus. 19
Exhaustedly Enalia dragged herself back through the forest. She had accidentally stayed longer then planned, and the sky was slowly darkening. Tripping a few times on branches and logs, she groaned from the new soreness of battle. Her bag was hanging at her side, the strap wrapped around her neck; her arms were too tired to carry it. As her bag jangled, a light rain began to drip down on her. Taller trees stretched to hold onto as much water as they could off of her. Gasping from getting wet, she ran for her car, hopping over everything in a hurry to get out of the rain. Finally clearing the trees, she fumbled with her keys, then threw the door open as soon as it was unlocked. Breathing heavily, she tossed her bag into the passengers’ seat, and leaned her head against the head rest of the driver’s seat. Rain poured down harder as she rested her head on the leather. With a bit more of strength, she forced herself to get back up, and she shoved the keys into the ignition, and sped down the dirt road towards home.20
Rain had lightened up, and she quietly shut the door to her car, having it already locked for when she closed it. Carefully she snuck up the driveway, the sky almost black, and the front porch light wasn’t on. Quietly she snuck in the back door, and hung her bag on the coat rack by the door. Down the hall it opened to the living room on the left, and kitchen on the right. All lights were off, so she figured Jeric had gone to bed by now, or was down at the town bar. Once walking into the living room, she snapped her neck to the left, and caught a dagger between her pointer and middle finger. She twirled it around in her hand to grab it by the handle and lowered it, looking up to see Jeric sitting on the end of the couch by the stairs. 21
“You’re late.” His soft voice flew smoothly into the cold air to meet her ears. Apologetically she bowed her head, “I know, I’m very sorry Sir. It won’t happen again, I reassure you.”22
“Be sure that it doesn’t”23
“Yes Sir. Goodnight.”24
“Be sure you aren’t late for school tomorrow.”25
Already on the stair’s landing, she nodded to herself in the dark. “Yes Sir.”26
“Night,” he said finalizing, ending their short confrontation. 27
Dashing up the stairs soundlessly, she pulled her clothes off as she entered the dark room, and slipped into her baby blue silk pajamas with black lace around every edge. Stepping into the bathroom really fast, she reached into the medicine cabinet and pulled out a small pill bottle, and grabbed a glass of water. She popped them into her mouth, and swallowed the two small Ibeprophen- pain relievers- with a gulp of water. Relaxing into her soft bed, she buried herself under the blanket and laid against the pillow. Drifting to sleep, her mind imagined, and tried to plan out how her day at school would go. Unconsciousness fell quickly upon Enalia, and she slept soundly, most thanks to the pain pills. 28
Quiet creaking came from the door, and a shadowed figure came to sit on the edge of Enalia’s bed. His gentle hand brushed her perfect skin, removing a piece of hair from he soft face. Caring eyes watched over the sleeping half breed Vampyre Angel. As if in love, he kissed her forehead lightly, then stood to leave, knowing she was safe for the night. Standing at the now open window, curtains danced around the man, pale moonlight revealing his face. Gorgeous as he was, he was obviously older then Enalia. Maybe seven years or so to mortals, but thousands to the powered. Snow white hair fell shaggily in front of his eyes, down to his neck. Electric blue eyes shone from behind the hair. He was a very tall man, standing at six foot six, very muscular, and beautiful. Clothing was hard to notice in the dim light, but light shone enough to show a red leather jacket with matching red leather pants, along with black boots; the pants were tucked into the boots. Black knuckle gloves wrapped around the hands that gripped the window edges as he crouched on the window pane. He looked back one more time, then jumped out, moving so fast it looked as if he had just disappeared. His name, was Dante Drakensire, and he was Enalia’s uncle.
