Once upon a time about 150 yrs ago a clever man was taken by others as a pet of sorts.
He was never mistreated and learned alot more than he could have learned here on his homeworld.
He could make and bring tea and fetch strange apples from a garden, his life was not unpleasant.
Yet one day he rebelled and said insulting things to his benefactors. The things he said were true and they decided he must never be 1
heard by others of his station.
They were not cruel beings so they could not just kill him.
Besides they actually did love him and he them in return.
But his great unhappiness was hard on all
So they gave him an old spin craft like a flying saucer and told him he was free and could
go wherever he wanted.
They knew he had no place to go and expected he would die in the void.
He did not die.2
About a week later hungry, thirsty and barely moving he soft crashed on an alien world.
Unlike earth where he might have been dissected or tortured for technical information.
He found himself amongst a wonderful and peaceful mammalian yet marsupial people.
They were primative like earth was in the seventeenth century.
They had nursed him back to health and called him the visitor and had no fear of him,
only curiosity.
In 2 months he had learned their language and learned as well that all they wanted from him
were stories of his journey.
They did not want power or technology, they just wanted to know about this stranger
who fell out of the sky.3
They were not perfect, they had violence as he had seen 2 males argue and draw edged weapons against each other, but the people 4
present had shouted and hissed at the two
until they became ashamed and put the weapons away and withdrew to opposite crowds
that embraced them and offered council, explaining to each other and all present who might have become upset, that they were 5
young and that it was good that they had been there to stop it.
He knew with a sadness that on earth when such things happen, people want to see blood,
he realized that humans would have spurred on the fight even to the loss of one of the young males.
He liked these people and in his heart recognized his betters.6
He decided to trust them and began to share what he knew.7
At first through parables and stories and then directly,he taught them to make plasma torches from water,
to make glass bricks from sand and erect cities that sparkled.
They knew what Ben Franklin had known about electricity and he taught them more.
In only a few years aquaducts were spinning over-unity generators
and the beautiful greedless marsupial people prospered.
He taught them all he knew about the spin craft he had crashed in,which wasn't all that much.
But they listened and they learned and didn't become vain or greedy.
He liked them and almost loved them but felt guilty in their presence.
They were that super cool and he felt beastlike around them despite his knowledge.
He showed them nothing weapon-like but gave them scalar magnetics for when it was time.
Knowing they would not abuse it.8
When he had lived with them for 8 years as a builder and architect.
They showed him what they called the strange museum.
In it he saw his own craft and maybe a hundred more like it along with
others he didn't recognize.
As a gift they offered the museum as a source for anything he might need
to repair his own craft and return to his home.
Or if he liked he could take any craft as a replacement if his own was too badly damaged.
He lied.9
He saw amongst the craft in the museum a wedge of black volcanic glass and minerals.
Dead,still and ancient beyond belief.
A cold vaccum craft with the power curve of a small star.
20 yards on a side,he thought,"What if this can be repaired?"
From the time of madness and war that tore the milky way to pieces.
All that ice in space and things like this that destroyed the planets behind the ice.
If others knew this was here, they would tear this world apart to find it.
He blessed their innocence and made his choice.
Not for their good or safety but because he was human
and this thing stirred his beast. His greed, his lust, his madness.
He wanted it.
Dead and still as it was,he needed it.10
He lied again and his eyes stung him as he looked away.
"This will only work in space,I need to lift it there to repair it."
"it is your's." they said with happy smiles.
But in his heart he knew himself for the beast that would be a god.11
A year of experiments at incredible cost and all 80 tons of glass
minerals and exotic magnets was in orbit.
The innocent marsupial people cheered and felt accomplishment.
The moody harshness of the visitor was attributed to home-sickness.
They were happy for him and he was happy too.
In guilt he threw up during the celebration, and they attributed it to the excitement
of going home.
He never did tell them that he didn't even know where home was.
He would take their dark treasure and never look back.
He felt like Judas Iscariot and vomited accordingly.12
When he was in orbit with his treasure and a particially repaired spin craft,
He discovered with dismay that his tractor beam was sliding off the strange glass triangle
He rotated frequencies and nothing could grab it.Then suddenly the beam took.
Then another problem occured ,whatever this was made of could not be phased
and would keep its mass. That was a huge problem.
Or so he thought,as he pulled it and phased himself to a mass of -1 the object in tow remained
at a little over 80 metric tons ,even at a speed of C.6.
"Impossible!" he thought, and yet there it was,80 tons of positive mass in tow behind
a phased mass of -1 moving faster than light.
Then panic as he realized that a positive mass has momentum and he was towing this.
If he stopped or slowed down he would catch it right up his butt.
3 hours of math with the computers and a sad solution.
He would release the tractor beam and dip below it de-phase and hopefully it would
pass over him if the math was right.
He would survive but the dark treasure would continue in its momentum and be lost.
It worked but something strange happened.
At less than 2 AU the weird glass wedge began to slow down.
5 seconds later at space normal drift towards the nearest gravity well.
He caught up to it at less than relative C and pronounced it crazy.
2 minutes later it was back in tow and the computers were working out solutions to study the
momentum decay as well as the why of its craziness.13
2 days later and leapfrogging it at 245 C he didn't notice it wasn't following him
so much as that he had followed it.14
His eyes hurt now and his mind was numb at what he saw,
A black tornado or storm of some kind was anchored to a small red star by a bolt of what
appeared to be lightning.
His head hurt it had hit the deck hard and he was unconscious only not yet and he couldn't explain it
even as he saw the deck coming towards his head and saw his own blood splatter on impact.
The deck was coming and it already hurt, there was blood and it hadn't happened yet.
everything was wrong,it made no sense.
"OUCH!" darkness.15
Pillars of flame and colors he can't remember --- Sleep.
"HELLO THERE." ----- sleep.
"DO YOU UNDERSTAND US." excitement, panic --- sleep.
" IT HEARS US." the mind flies apart ---- sleep.
"GO SLOWLY,DO NOT INJURE IT."--------- sleep and escape ,distance is a rubber band thoughts
more sleep.
A mother's hand carresssing the forehead,"Sssh it is only voices.
Fever and dreams
and SsshVoices.16
