There hasn't been a hit 1
and run accident in the2
past few months.3
I was finally on the4
last stretch home.5
I was glad.6
I turned the radio off.7
I didn't want to hear8
about anymore murders.9
That's the way it always is,10
somebody ends up getting drunk11
and gets behind the wheel.12
I pulled into the driveway,13
shut the car off and got out.14
Tony was still sleeping,15
so I left him there.16
I had a blanket in the back seat.17
I leaned over, grabbed the blanket,18
and covered Tony up with it.19
I quietly shut the door.20
It was about 3:30 am.21
I didn't expect to take so22
long getting home.23
If I didn't have to 24
make three stops along the way,25
I would have been26
home a long time ago.27
I walked up to the door28
of the house, put the key29
in the lock, turned the knob30
and walked in.31
I closed the door behind me,32
set my keys and purse on the table33
and walked into the livingroom.34
The babysitter was sound asleep 35
on the couch.36
I didn't want to disturb her,37
so I left her alone.38
I sat down in a chair39
next to the fireplace.40
I was too tired to walk41
all the way upstairs to go to bed.42
I grabbed a blanket,43
that was sitting on the hope chest,44
sat back down in the chair45
and drifted off to sleep.46
