Dear diary,1
You’re never going to guess what’s going to happen today! Well, you should know of all books, obviously, even it’s the most important day of the year to most people. Still can’t guess? Well you don’t appear to know me very well. Today marks a new beginning, but much more importantly, FUN! It’s my birthday, silly. But also the day I met my best friend, Kathy. She’s the sort of girl that would fit perfectly into a fantasy book. Curios, adventurous (sometimes a bit cheeky, just like me.). 2
I can remember nine years ago when I invited her round for the first time. You see, we have a rather large trampoline in our garden (mainly to stop me falling off), and Kathy had never been on one before. But don’t even get me started on what happened. We made a bit of an assault course. We had to go through the hoops, over my dads best ladder, through the tube (that was in the rosebush, mum didn’t like us much when she found out) up the steps and finally, onto the trampoline! But no, someone didn’t want to do it the right way! I went through the hoops, over the ladder, into some mud, through the tube and was bouncing on the trampoline, muddy boots and all. But Kathy, she went though the flower bed, over the apple tree, didn’t use the tube in the rosebush (she came out with more that a few thorns, but didn’t really care) and finally, took one bounce on the trampoline, but decided to learn how to fly! (She landed on the swing my dad hung from next-doors massive oak tree, and not surprisingly, broke it). 3
Well, anyway, I better get going now. Don’t want to leave all those presents there lonely… (If mum will let me open some before school). Bye for now,4
Jane xxx

Just a random, made-up diary entry. (Though I did do something similar to this with a friend.)
