A Stranger

Rain fell and thunder clapped as he made his way down the dark street. He was a nobody in the little town, a stranger just passing through. That’s what he made them all think at least. He laughed at what they’d think if they really knew. Only a child when he’d left, the son of a man who’d made the mistake of becoming a drunk after his wife passed. Only a child and he and his father soon became the butt of many town jokes. Now he was just a stranger with a past. A past only he knew.

very nicely worded, for a simple 99 word story, it portrays emotion excellently.

in a way we are all strangers with a past. If any of us leave for several years we all become strangers, or if we go somewhere new we are automatically a stranger. Some of us have darker pasts than others. Thanks for enetring my contest.
