I stared hard out the window, as if the trash dancing around the yard was more than mild distraction. The wind was feeling playful; launching the papers into the air, then dropping them suddenly into piles of crusty brown leaves. – The analogy to my own life sickened me. Still, I gazed outward: towards nothing and away from everything. You were still in my head… in my life. The phone wouldn’t ring so instead I ignored you, and the faint ticking in my ear. I didn’t need to know how much time had passed since you’d promised you’d call.

I hate wating for people to call, especially when they don't end up calling. My friend does this to me all the time, it drives me nuts! Anyways, this was cute, thanks for entering my contest
