Black and White Chapt 5

Crystel laid her stuff on the ground, and took out her blanket as well, but as she sat under it, she soon realized that there was no way she would be able to get to sleep so early in the night. So, she decided to use the time she had looking around. 1

The trees were defiantly bigger than she was used to here. They hadn’t yet ceased to fascinate her. They had a strange way of making her feel incredibly small and protected. It was comfortable. The soft sound of leaves brushing against one another in the breeze was the only sound she could hear besides Isaac’s heavy breaths. Crystel snuggled up under the blanket, and simply watched the world move around her.2

Everything seemed so alive here, the earth, the trees, even the wind seemed to have a voice, although she couldn’t understand it, no matter how hard she listened. Crystel looked up at clouded sky, just barely visible between the many branches above her. Clouds still covered it, but she soon realized that at the moment, she almost preferred that over anything else. For as it began to darken, it left her in complete darkness, and as she closed her eyes, she found herself quickly drifting to sleep.3

Thunder crashed loudly, ripping Crystel from her sleep. She looked around, only seeing the forest’s pitch darkness. Wind blew hard, making the leaves around her flail loudly. Lightning light up the sky, and Crystel saw Isaac running towards her, grabbing her arm, and, leaving her just enough time to grab her bag and blanket, dragged her through the trees. 4

“Where are we going?” Crystel yelled over the noise.5

“Somewhere that’s going to be dry in about fifty seconds!” He shouted back.6

After being yanked around for what felt like forever, Crystel saw not a few yards away, a cave, with light flickering inside. Isaac had apparently seen it as well, for he immediately began to pull her in that direction, and not a moment to soon, the rain into the cave. For the moment their feet touched the entrance, it began to pour. 7

Crystel looked out at the cold forest she had just been fast asleep in, and very thankful she was not there anymore, she turned to take a look at her new shelter.8

But when she turned around, she almost fell over in shock at the scene in front of her. Every where, piled up to the caves high ceiling was gold. Gold and rubies, emeralds, diamonds, and anything else valuable Crystel could have possibly imagined. 9

“Isaac,” she murmured, “where are we?” 10

“I don’t know,” he answered, “but… It’s probably not safe.” He turned to her, “My guess is it’s a basilisk cave. I don’t know where it is now but, it probably won’t be long.”11

Crystel’s eyes widened and she was about to turn and leave with Isaac as fast as her legs could carry her, but something caught her eye. 12

“Wait a minute Isaac,” She said, and she walked up to a dull, rock statue in the corner of the cave of a horrified centaur. 13

“Wait?” Isaac said in a hushed but obviously panicked tone, “Crystel, we can’t wait a minute, Basilisks don’t really just leave their caves, not for long anyway.”14

Crystel ignored him, and walked quickly up to the statue, “Isaac, remember that centaur who wants you to save a room for his brother? He said that he was speckled, right?”15

“Crystel!” Isaac whisper-yelled, “it doesn’t matter,” He walked quickly up to her, and looked around uneasily. “We have to leave now, and I don’t want to force you.”16

“But what if this is his brother?” She asked fretfully running her fingers down it’s speckled back.17

“You see, that just proves my point.” He grabbed for her, Crystel quickly dodged him. “You’re such an idiot,” he said, “do you have a death wish?”18

“Isaac,” Crystel said calmly, “Everything’s going to be just fine. If a basilisk comes, I’m sure we’ll hear it. But as defender of Mirindia, I need to help the citizens.” Crystel looked him over and saw a small whistle dangling from his neck., “A whistle,” She said, raising it up and inspecting it, “Why do you think he has a whistle?”19

“Probably enchanted, leave it alone, he’s already gone. It doesn’t matter, we need to go.”20

Crystel shook her head, “enchanted?” she asked, and without thinking, she rose the whistle to her lips and gave it a hard blow.21

Isaac gasped and grabbed her, “Crystel! What is wrong with you! Why did you blow that, who knows what it does?” 22

“But you said it was enchanted, it could help him!”23

Isaac grabbed her and began to pull her out of the cave, “or kill us! Are you crazy?”24

But before they could take to much as two steps away from the centaur’s frozen body, there was a brilliant blue flash.25

Crystel spun around and in front of her was a very small blue fairy. With black wings delicately flapping behind her, and tiny tooth pick arms.26

Crystel looked at the creature with fascination, but when the fairies tiny black eyes fell upon her, they were filled with suspicion. “Who are you?” She asked, voice much bigger the Crystel expected it to be, “Where’s Jasper? That was his Whistle, was it not?” Instead of waiting for an answer, the fairy flew up in the air, wings fluttering behind her. “Jasper!” She called; “Jasp-” The Creature turned around and gasped as she saw the horrified Centaur statue. “OH, MY JASPAR! MY DEAR DEAR JASPER!!!”27

She flew over to him, “What has happened to you? Oh! Jasper!”28

Suddenly she spun around and glared at Crystel, “What have you done to Jasper! Who are you? Why did you call me?”29

“Actually,” Crystel said quietly, not sure what to tell the strange small being, “I… ummm, I called you here, because I hoped you would be able to bring him back too… normal.”30

The creature looked at her suspiciously, “who did this to him?” She asked.31

“A basilisk!” Isaac answered irritably, “That’s why we need to leave. Sorry, but I’m sure you can take care of the problem from here.” And he was about to grab her arm again, and for once Crystel was willing to leave with him, but as he began to take a step foreword his legs did not left up. Isaac’s eye’s widened, and he tried again, but as though there was glue on the bottoms of his feet, they did not budge. 32

The fairy glared at him, “you two are not going anywhere until my Jasper is back to normal!” She ordered.33

“How are we supposed to do that?” Isaac asked.34

“I don’t know but you had better figure it out or soon you’ll end up like him and see what it’s like you insensitive pig!”35

“Well,” said Crystel, nervously glancing at Isaac, who Crystel noticed was glaring at her, “there must be some way,” 36

The winged creature turned around and looked mournfully at her friend, “My poor Jasper,” She murmured, “and he was so young and kind, I suppose his wished will go to waste then.”37

“Wishes!” Crystel exclaimed, “I have an idea!”38

The fairy turned around. “What is it?” 39

“If he has wishes, then, maybe I can use one! I did blow the whistle, and I’m sure he would wish it if he was able to anyway.”40

“We don’t just give wished away…” The fairy began hesitantly, “and really I’m allowed to. Who are you people anyway? You can’t just-“41

“My name is Crystel White,” Crystel answered with a smile, “and that’s Isaac.” She pointed to Isaac.42

The fairies eye’s widened, “Crystel White?” She asked, “are you really?” She approached Crystel and inspected her. Then suddenly her face broke into a smile, “Oh my goodness! And me being so rude to you. I’m sorry, please forgive me! Of course you can make a wish! It would e an absolute honor to serve the great Crystel White.” 43

Crystel’s face grew a little warm, “Thank you,” She said “I guess I’ll wish for Jasper to come back to normal.”44

“Oh! Look at you!” The fairy said breathlessly, “Your so kind! Just like the prophecy said! It is such an honor!”45

Crystel smiled and closed her eyes, “I wish that jasper was back to his normal self.” She said confidently.46

Just as she said it there was a flash of light, and in front of her stood an incredibly startled speckled centaur. 47

The fairy immediately flew over and hugged him. 48

“Where am I?” Jasper stuttered, looking at the treasures around him with bewilderment.49

“Jasper! Jasper! Guess whose here! It’s-”50

Sarah!” Isaac loudly interrupted, everyone looked over at him, “Her name is Sarah McDover.”51

Crystel looked over at him, “ummm… yeah,” She looked over at the fairy, “My name is Sarah.” 52

The fairy smiled, obviously taking the hint, “Yes... Sarah! She saved you!”53

The Centaur was obviously still horribly confused, and could tell something was being hidden from him, but despite that, he walked up to her and fell on one of his knees. “Well, it is an honor to meet my savior,” He said uneasily.54

Crystel gave a courtesy back and smiled at him, “well, I had the pleasure of meeting your brother, he is very anxious to see you.”55

“Then I guess I had better go then, but first, I would like to give you my wishes, the rest of them.”56

Crystel shook her head,”I can’t take your wishes.”57

“Of course you can, It is to you I owe my life.” And with that he ran out of the cave, leaving the whistle in Crystel’s hand.”58

Crystel looked at it, then, before she really knew what was happening, she was grabbed by Isaac and pulled away into the loud storm.59

I love the fairy. Do not dispose of the fairy. I will send my fairy, Fabu-licious, to deal with you if you do.

Hee hee, they run into the cave from the storm, and then realize it's safer outside than inside. HAH! The tie-in with the brother and the whistle gift with wishes were both excellent.

I can really tell you had a gap of time between this and the previous chapter. There's much more flow here, less typos, and more plot.

p7 the rain = they ran?

p16 whisper-yelled, lol, I know exactly what you mean

p35 comma after 'what it's like'

    p37 wished = wishes

    p43 e = be

    p45 your = you're

    p50 whose = who's

I'm going to first say WOW that I asked for more detail about the mountains and trees, last chapter, then poof here they are! Heh. And I didn't even need a whistle.

For predictions, I can't fully guess what she'll wish for, but I'm guessing it'll have something to do with wither Isaac or the witch. Might not have seen the last of the centaurs either. I'm currently expecting Isaac to turn out to be a good guy, like Snape. No evil ruler like the queen gets people to love her. They're all afraid, so I think Isaac wants to be a good guy.

I'm off to the next; really getting into it now!

P2 - defiantly should be definitely
P27 - OH, MY JASPAR! should be OH, MY JASPER!
P37 - wished should be wish ? or wishes ?
P41 - wished should be wishes
    43 - e should be be
    P45 - your should be you're
P46 - jasper should be Jasper

I wonder how Jasper (or his brother, for that matter) would have reacted if they knew she was Crystel...
The fairy is a nice character to add into the mix - She seems so loyal to Jasper, that I wonder that she would want to be parted from him. She doesn't seem to be able to do magic on her own, and her life isn't her own, either. You could really explore slavery issues in the story through this character (think the Genie character in Aladdin)-I'm interested to see what happens with it.

You know what? I don't think Isaac is going to be the traitor. I reckon he'll end up deciding to help Crystel, and the other person with be the traitor.

And I'm guessing that this second person will be Jasper? Or one of the centaurs at least... I'm guessing, lol

Coooooooooooool, wishes!I wonder how many she gets. Are there rules? Limits? This is very interesting. *jaw drops* You've been writing this story for three years??? Woah. I can never focus on a story for longer than a year. (Which is about how long it takes me to write one.)That's why I never do series, lol Still, wow. You must be really dedicated to this story. Great work!

I love it. It's so intruiging. I liked the fairy. She was a nice little character and kind of expanded the fantasy of it all a little for me. I'm glad you've finally started writing it again. It was driving me insane waiting for it. I should probably start writing on mine again soon, too.

Oh, In the second line of the second paragraph you said they hadn't 'seized' to fascinate. Did you mean cease?

Anyways, can't wait to read more.
