My Secret Powers

A piercing cry woke me from a deep sleep. I thought it was all a dream. It didn't sound real. Actually, it sounded like many screams at once. It stopped suddenly when I woke up. It couldn't have been a coincidence. I soon put it out of my mind and quickly fell to sleep again.1

I woke up again at seven o'clock. I got up and was immediately struck by cold air. This was very unusual. Dad is always up at six-thirty with the heat on to warm up the cold house for the rest of the family. Today was different. Sleeping in late is impossible for him, especially with an alarm clock that could wake the dead. My bedroom is on the other side of the large house, so the sound of the alarm clock couldn't reach me.2

When I reached my parents' room, they were both sleeping like a log. I woke up Dad and at first he wouldn't believe me that he had slept in. After I showed him the clock, he started worrying about missing his big meeting with an important future business client.3

While Dad was doing his daily routine that usually took him the full forty-five minutes, but done in a record thirteen, I got ready for my day at school.4

School was its usual self. You learn a few things, here and there. Then you forget it soon after, if you don't use it very often.5

As I was walking home, a bus driver lost control of his bus. There were many children in the windows of the bus with their screaming faces. The screaming sound was in unison, like the scream that I heard this morning. I knew that it wasn't one scream, but many.6

This, I knew was a sign for me to begin a journey. I decided to travel around the world after I earned a degree in Psychology. I learned how to use and strengthen my powers during this time. After I finished, I started a group called STD (Screams to Disasters). This group consisted of more than a thousand people throughout the world.7

Over the twenty years, we saved billions of people in more than a million disasters. We are also working toward world peace with the UN. This is the only group in the entire world that saved so many people in so few years.8

Author notes

One of the several stories that I wrote beginning with being awoke with a piercing scream. I always found them most fun to write. Unfortunately, this is the only one I have now.
This is something else that I wrote back in high school. I know it's not all that long nor great, but back then I wasn't great either. I don't think I'm great now, but I'm improving.
As I know it's not a great write, try not to be too harsh.
And yes, the STD stays because I wanted to have something like that there with a double meaning.
