I was there the day the world ended.1
The world did not end in an explosion of nuclear fire.2
It ended in a whisper of protest and dissolution.3
The quiet masses walked silently to the slaughter.4
The huddled few who voiced indifference were culled like sick cattle.5
The angry whole did nothing as they saw their end approaching.6
I blame our parents.7
People who, in our infancy, were the pillars of strength and guidance.8
My father had a voice.9
A strong, resonating, bass voice that caused the walls to shake when he used it.10
They got to him first.11
My mother had only tears.12
When the world crumbled around us and anarchy put its swirling clutches on the nations, my mother would only cry.13
A child enters this world unarmed and unready, it is a parents duty to arm them with the knowledge and strength to face life.14
My mother gave me only tears.15
I walk unarmed down the street, watching the dull glow of candles in the windows of the hopeful, the settling of wax on the windowsill echoing down the streets like ringing bells.16
I walk unknowing past the light of salvation, the last of the faithful being called into the bosom of their creator, towards eternal peace and happiness.17
I walk back to my home, and find my mother curled on the floor with the last of her hopelessness forming a shapeless path to the ground.18
Now my mother doesn't even give me tears.19
Standing in the middle of the cracked and broken street, I can see the horsemen in the distance. Their hooves bringing upon the world its terrible end. 20
The light has gone, the quiet masses who shuffled through it are free of the true end.21
All who are left are we huddled few, who dared voice indifference, whose parents gave us no armor to protect us from the evils of the world, watching the end ride towards us on fire and brimstone.22

This piece...is absolutely stunning. You've done a remarkable job here, the short sayings of a man wrapped around such strong images and meanings--it's great. Nothing else to be said.
