For a man whom we hold in such high esteem1
It all began with faith and an impossible dream2
You see everything in this life that we take for granted3
Are the results of the seeds someone else planted4
We know it’s true that what you sow you shall reap5
Hopefully something for many generations to keep6
At a young age Dr. King understood these things7
And like an eagle he spread his wings8
Took flight in the direction opposite his adversities9
Planted the harvest now enjoyed by you and me10
M.L.K. Day is not only a celebration of his victory11
But also a reminder of all we could be12
I’d like to thank Dr. King for paving the way13
For giving me the freedoms to live day by day14
For teaching me the power of dreaming large15
Determining a plan of action and taking charge16
Holding tight to my dreams refusing to let them die17
Visualizing them with determination in my eyes18
A priceless lesson, the value could never be measured19
Fresh in my mind as I go about my endeavors20

Thanks Av. Dr. King continues to be an inspiration for me, especially in my newest and most impossible venture, but I owe it to him to live out my dream. I owe it to him to be all that I want in life as much as I owe it to you to write my little heart out
Thanks for hosting such a wonderful contest
Much Love

Wonderful, truly wonderful!
Life should always begin with faith and an impossible dream, for no dream is unattainable unless of course we're not setting our goals high enough or we've lost hope. I feel that Dr. King was born to be a leader, was chosen by God to walk the path of life he walked and make a difference in the lives of so many people of different nationalities, color and backgrounds. Yes, it is good to give thanks go the man who paved the way for all of us, he taught us how to spread our wings and fly, to reach for the unreachable, to dream the impossible dream, to visualize a better tomorrow for our children and our children's children. Marttin Luther King will forever remain alive in our hearts and our minds. Thank you Dee for writing such a compelling poem and a wonderful tribute to a great man who paved the way for us all. The entries are all so wonderful. This will be a difficult contest to judge.
All my best to you,
Avril

I'm glad I wrote something that could man anything to anyone. I am so sorry to hear of your experience but I am elated that you heard the speech. I hope the message and the words and the greatness remained with you all these years. Thanks for readong and commenting.

Beautifully wriiten piece! Dr. King will always be my hero. I was nine years old when I heard him give the "I Have A Dream" speech. My father was almost three sheets to the wind. He gave me a beating before he passed out; because I was listening to the great and dearly beloved Dr. King. I grabbed an old washcloth, stuck some ice in it, pressed it to my face before I went back to the T.V. I don't think it was an accident that I heard the speech in its entirety before my father passed judgment. Thanks for sharing this lolvely poem! -
Great poem! I love the play of words and your rhyming technique. I love how it talks about what Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. did and how it benefits the world today as well as back then. I love it! Great job and keep writing!

This is not only a tribute, but a way of 'paying it forward' (as Avril would call it) and keeping the dream moving. I recognize this day not only as a national holiday or the birthday of one of the Civil Rights Movement's most prolific and wise leaders, but also a day of reflection to contemplate how far we have come (toward equality) and how far we still have to go. This is why I don't mind volunteering--that is a small part of keeping the dream alive all year.
Did you know that someone is planning an MLK memorial right across from the Lincoln Monument in D.C.? The problem is, however, that it takes $100 million to break ground and the company only has 1/3 that amount...meaning that they need to raise $66 million by (if I remember correctly) the middle of next year. I'm going to see who exactly wants to launch this project so I can send a donation.
It's small steps like these that ultimately make a big difference!
Great write, dear
Many blessings,
Raven Aurora
