Fifty-eight ravers answers with various versions of, "Yeah."2
"Wait a sec. Who said no?" asked Sparky.3
"Umm ... me," Luxuria meekly replied.4
"What don't you get?" asked Cinderella.5
"Well, do we all breathe out when he starts saying three, or after?" Luxuria asked back.6
"After," answered Lightshow. "Definitely after."7
"Ah," sighed Trance, "I'm glad somebody asked. I'd assumed it was when he started."8
"Me too," chimed in Flutter.9
Pillows raised her voice to be heard from the back corner of the elevator. "Anybody else assumed it was when he started?"10
There was a general muttering of, "me," and, "me too," from most of the ravers.11
"Maybe we all should breathe out when he starts instead of after," suggested Precious.12
"Don't be such a goober," said Twisted with a groan.13
Precious gave the new girl on his shoulder a knowing grin. "I can't be a goober."14
Twisted looked down at Precious with a confused frown. "Why not?"15
"That's 'cause I'm the one and only Goober," answered Goober. This brought a lot of giggles, which in turn caused quite a few bruised ribs, since everyone was taking turns breathing in and out and the giggles broke almost everyone's rhythm.16
"Okay," said Sumo when he could catch his breath again, "is it gonna be when he starts, or after?"17
"Since just about everyone seemed to think it was supposed to be when he starts," said Rowdy, "why don't we all do it then?"18
"That makes sense to me," agreed Tsunami.19
"Hold on a sec," said Ferocious.20
"Hold on for what?" asked Ironic.21
"Ummmm" said Ferocious, blushing, "who are we supposed to be listening for?"22
"We're supposed to be listening for Romeo," answered Future.23
"So, is everyone ready?" asked Mayflower.24
"Ready!" chorused Happyfeet, Mistletoe, and Hummingbird.25
"Okay, Romeo," called Jitters from near the ceiling. "Would you do the honors?"26
"Sure," agreed Romeo.27
"Wait a second!" shouted Brittles.28
"What is it now?" asked Astro, barely hiding her exasperation.29
"Sorry," Brittles softly answered, "but I kinda ... gotta go."30
"Can't you hold it for a minute?" asked Energy.31
"Is there gonna be a bathroom upstairs?" asked Brittles.32
"Of course there will be," answered Bunny.33
Brittles thought for a few seconds before saying, "Okay, I'll hold it."34
"Woo hoo!" cheered Biscuit.35
"Alrighty," added Passion, "let's get this party train on the road!"36
"Wait a minute," said Outlast, trying her best to keep a straight face, "this ain't a train."37
Patience rolled his eyes and grinned. "Yeah, we all know this is an elevator, not a train."38
"Whatever it is, can we get it moving?" asked Popper. "I'm gonna need to go soon too."39
"Sounds like a plan," said Temptation. "Could you start the count-down, Romeo?"40
"You betcha," Romeo answered cheerily. "One ... two ... three!"41
An elevator full of ravers breathed out and Seduction hit the door close button."42
"Hold on!" shouted Hybrid. "I can't pull in my -- youch !"43
"What happened?" asked Jellyfish.44
"The door closed on my arm." Hybrid answered with a surprisingly calm voice.45
"Aiee!" squeeled Starfire.46
Starshine squirmed, desperately trying to see what happened. "You okay?"47
"Yeah," he answered. "It opened right back up. Mostly scared me more than anything else."48
"Think you'd be able to pull your arm in if we tried again?" asked Koolaid.49
Hybrid shifted and turned a bit. "Yeah, I think I'll be okay."50
"Koolness!" chirped Lollipop.51
"Could you do the countdown again, Romeo?" asked Gumdrop.52
Sure thing," Romeo answered. After checking as well as he could to make sure the doorway was clear, he did the countdown, everyone breathed out, Seduction hit the button, the doors closed and the elevator began moving upwards. All sixty ravers began cheering, which lasted about four seconds when the elevator shuddered to a stop and the overhead lights blinked out.53
Hero was the first to break the startled silence. "W-What happened?"54
"Looks like we're stuck," Tigger answered.55
"How'd we get stuck?" Viper asked.56
Raptor cleared his throat. "Um ... I think this sign over the door that just lit up might be a clue."57
"What's it say?" asked Adventure.58
"It says, 'Weight Limit Exceeded'," he answered.59
Shooter began muttering under her breath.60
"Hey Shooter, you okay?" asked SnowBall.61
She took in as deep a breath as she could before she said, "Not really. I don't do so good in tight spaces like this."62
"Don't worry," said Nebula with a cheerfulness that only sounded a little bit forced. "We just need to trust in to power of PLURR."63
"How's PLURR gonna help us?" Shooter sounded both doubtful and hopeful.64
"Well," Pearl paused for a moment, as if deep in thought, before continuing, "the P stands for peace, which in this case would probably also mean not panicking." 65
"That sounds like a good start," Rainbow said with a fair bit of conviction. "I know the L stands for love, and I can see the love we've got for each other in how were all trying to find a solution together instead of clawing our way past each other trying to find a way out."66
There was a quiet moment as everyone considered what Pearl and Rainbow said before Razzle added, "I think I see what ya's mean. I remember the U stands for unity, and like Rainbow said, we're all working together to solve a problem, which seems like a pretty good way of showing unity."67
"That makes sense," said Skylight. "I remember the R stands for respect, and I think if we can treat each others suggestions with respect, we should be able to come up with a way outta here."68
"Wait a minute. Isn't there another R?" asked Wizard.69
"Uh huh," answered Diamond. "It stands for responsibility. I'd say we're doing a good job of being responsible for ourselves by trying to find a solution instead of blaming what happened on somebody else."70
For several minutes, sixty ravers shuffled in the dark, contemplating the meaning of PLURR, before Cinnamon spoke up. "Well, that all sounds great, but how's it get us outta here?"71
Trinket timidly raised her hand, which was a bit of a trick considering the crowded conditions. Of course, nobody was able to see her hand, so she finally spoke up. "Umm ... I was thinkin', if everyone jumped at the same time, the elevator wouldn't feel our weight, and it might start moving again."72
"That sounds like a good idea," Juliet said. "The only problem would be it might stop again when we land."73
"Maybe we could, like, keep on jumping?" Trinket suggested.74
"Ooo!" Sapphire gasped. "That sounds like it might just work. The only issue would be getting everyone jumping at the same time. Anybody brought any tunes we could use to keep a steady rhythm?"75
"I brought my iPod," Jackpot answered, "but it's pretty old and the screen don't light up. Somebody got a light so I can see what I'm doing?"76
Like magic, a rainbow assortment of light-sticks, necklaces, bracelets, and other glowing objects lit up the cramped space. A moment later, the itsy bitsy speaker of the iPod was playing a tinny but heartfelt version of 'Colours of the Rainbow'. Everyone began hopping at the same time and, wonder of wonders, the elevator started moving!77
And THAT is how sixty ravers started a party in an elevator.
