Is it possible to be consumed about something or someone? 1
That’s the question that has been rolling in my mind all afternoon. I had been sitting behind my mahogany desk for the better part of the afternoon, tapping my pencil on the desk, rather than busying myself with work. How did it get this deep?2
It started easily enough. I had met her at a company party one night. We were celebrating recent acquisitions and a huge bonus because of it. I was at the bar ordering an Amaretto and coke when she walked up and ordered a blue UV. I turned and silently took in the beauty of her body.3
She was wearing a midnight blue dress with the front showing a halter top and the back exposed all the way down to her lower back. Her hair was deep red, the color of strawberries, and it was pulled back in a low ponytail with intertwining locks. 4
“Wow” was all I could say. She looked stunning and gorgeous.5
She turned to me and leaned against the bar with an elegant grace. “I don’t think that I’ve had quite that kind of response Mr…?” She said with a small smile.6
“Roberts. Shane Roberts.” I said, recovering from my stupor and offering a hand in greeting.7
“Alina Gorgonova” She said, shaking my hand. Her hand was delicate with long fingers and I noticed that she painted her nails purple. Quite an interesting color. “So I see you are celebrating tonight.” She said with a soft tone in her voice. It made easy enough to hear, yet light on the ears.8
“Yes, Niko, the company we acquired, was going bankrupt and we gave them an offer that they couldn’t refuse.” I said, still watching her and taking in her presence. She carried herself with a dancer’s grace and seemed at ease no matter where she was.9
“I see. My father always said that you were an ambitious man and could seal a deal in a matter of days, where others would take weeks on end.” The bartender delivered our drinks and I offered to pay for hers. It was the least I could do for the good company. “My thanks” She said, before sipping her drink10
“Your father?” I said, taken off balance. “I don’t think that we have any Gorgonovas working here.”11
She laughed, a joyous sound, like soft music playing on the wind. Her laughter slowly died and she said “Forgive me. I didn’t mean to laugh, but I have the last name of Gorgonova because of my ex-husband. We have been divorced for three years now. My father is Richard Tower.” She said with an uninterested tone.12
Richard Tower?!? The CEO’s daughter of the company that I work for. I almost dropped my glass. My mind was screaming Warning! Warning! 13
“I’m surprised that Mr. Tower had such nice things to say about me.” I tried to keep my voice even, though I was panicking inside. 14
“He was very surprised at your ambitious streak. He said that you acted like him when he was younger. Brash and impulsive as well. Tell me, are you really impulsive?” She propped her head on her hand. Her voice had gone husky and I looked into her eyes. They were the color of forest, deep green, and they were glinting with mischievousness. True to my impulsiveness, I offered my hand and asked her to dance. 15
She did nothing for the briefest of seconds, as if almost contemplating my offer. Then she put down her drink and took my hand. I led her onto the small dance floor and we danced. The feel of her body and silk dress underneath my hands was an exquisite feeling. 16
Her fingers were warm around mine and her body was pliant. All woman. Even her scent stirred me deep inside. I looked into her eyes as I twirled her into a dip, catching her with my arm. She looked up in my eyes and I read the desire in them. She wanted me as much as I wanted her. I kissed her gently, almost hesitantly. She returned it with interest. It wasn’t long after that we left for my place.17
That night was magical. She was open and uninhibited, wild and free. No matter how many times we took each other over the edge that night, it seemed like we couldn’t get enough. Suffice to say, neither of us got much sleep that night, though we were thoroughly exhausted. 18
The morning sun always held a certain joy to it when I woke up in the morning. However, this morning held a dread to it. I knew that I wanted her again, but having an affair with the boss’s daughter was something that was dangerous for me in my job. What if all she wanted was a one night stand? I could handle that, though I would miss her gentle touch and fierce moans. It was making me want her again and I’ve never been able to go more than three times in one night before last night.19
I felt her before she hooked her arms around me. “Good morning” she said sleepily. She kissed me on the back of my neck and I turned around to kiss her deeply. After coming up for air, I said “Good morning. Did you sleep well?”20
“Oh, it was very good.” Her words seemed to flow over me sensually and her eyes held wickedness in them. I couldn’t help, but grin. She was fun and beautiful. “In fact, I was wondering what were your plans for this coming Friday?”21
I thought on that for a bit. Other than doing some paperwork, I had no plans, so we planned a date at a nice Italian restaurant in the city. That started a three month affair which led me to my current situation. I twirled in my chair and looked out of my high-rise glass window. 22
I couldn’t get enough of her and she seemed to be the same way. We were always hungry for each other. I remember one time she visited me in my office and gave me a treat that I wouldn’t forget for the rest of my life, but sleeping with the boss’s daughter held such danger. 23
The sun slowly set to dusk and I wanted to be with her tonight. I called her cell and we talked for a bit before she invited me to her place for dinner. I was surprised to say the least. I’ve never been to her place and for her to invite me was new… usually I did all the inviting. I smiled and said that I would see her tonight at seven.24
I dropped by a flower boutique shop and ordered a dozen roses. Since this was the first time that she invited me to her place, I thought that it deserved a gift. I arrived at her place and knocked delicately on the door.25
She opened the door dressed in a stunning black sequined dress that was floor length and had slits on either side going up to her hip to give maximum flexibility. I also noticed that she wore red high heels and I smiled with approval. The warm delicious smell of lasagna coming from inside her place and I found myself ravenous.26
I gave her the flowers to which she gave me a thorough kiss in gratitude. She took my hand and led me into the kitchen. She put the flowers in a vase with water and put them on the dining room table. 27
"How was your day, Shane?" She asked, while checking the oven while the lasagna was cooking.28
"It was good, though I have to say that I've been thinking more about us than work today." I said honestly. I don't know why I said that to her. It could have been my attempt to see where we were in the relationship and what she expected out of it.29
"Really? I've been thinking about us too and I think that it's something that we should discuss tonight." She said, standing up and closing the oven. "The food is almost done, but it needs another five minutes. Would you like some wine while we wait?"30
"Yes, that would be great. I didn't know you cooked." I said as she took off the oven mitts, opened the fridge and withdrew a red wine. 31
"I've been cooking since my teens. Ever since my mother died, I was the one always in the kitchen." She said, reaching into a cabinet to get two wine glasses. "But after I married my now ex-husband, he never did any of the cooking or cleaning so the enjoyment of cooking a meal for someone was turned into a chore." She popped the cork, poured wine into the two glasses, and handed one to me.32
"If you don't like cooking, why cook for me tonight?" I asked, confused.33
"Because making a meal for you is the least that I can do since you came into my life. I've never been more happier than right now and I have you to thank for that." She said, clinking my glass against hers and then sipping her wine. She sighed pleasurably. "I always loved this vintage of wine."34
I sipped the wine and it was fruity with a nice finish. I could appreciate the wine as well, however, my mind was on something entirely different. Does she want me to stay around and have this relationship become something more or should I break this off now? It would be a great way to end a good relationship. I was so immersed in my own thoughts that I missed her asking me something.35
"I'm sorry, what did you say?" I said, trying to regain composure.36
"I asked if you wanted wine with dinner tonight or something else? " She said, looking at me thoughtfully. "Are you sure that you are ok?" 37
"Yeah, I'm fine, just lost in thought." I said quickly.38
"Oh, ok. Well, dinner is almost done. Wait here and I will bring it out." She said, slipping into the kitchen. 39
The lasagna that she made was fantastic and I was never so full from a homemade meal before. After dinner, we took our dishes and put them into the kitchen sink. I offered to clean since she made such a wonderful dinner. She countered by saying that I could help her clean up. I chuckled and agreed.40
As we were in the middle of doing dishes, I imagined seeing us do this for the rest of our lives and it got me to thinking on my current problem. What if rather than tiptoe around the issue, why not just confront the problem head-on? 41
I want her in my life and she's been the greatest thing that has ever happened to me. So what could be the problem of just asking her to marry me? 42
That night, we shared our love and it was tender and so very thorough. As I woke in the morning with her curled around me, I knew that I wouldn't want anyone else there in bed beside me. I got up, showered and dressed. She was awake and waiting for me when I sat on the edge of the bed. I held her hands in mine and I told her my plan. 43
As I left her place to go to work, I smiled to myself. Well, this ambitious man is going to do something more risker than he's ever done in his life and two hearts hang in the balance.44
I got to work and instead of going to my office, I headed up to the CEO's office. I asked his secretary if he was in and that I would like to speak with him. She had a small smile on her face while she inquired if I could see him. 45
She gestured to the door and I stopped before the door, gathering my resolve. Here goes everything and nothing. I turned the doorknob and opened it. 46
Richard Tower was sitting behind his desk on a phone call when he gestured me to sit in the chair in front of his desk. I closed the door behind me and sat down.47
After he hung up the phone, he sat back and took a deep breath.
"So, word is around the office is that you are dating my daughter, is this true?" He looked calm despite the words that he used.48
"Yes, sir. That is true. She and I have been having a relationship for the last few months and she's been the best thing that's ever happened to me. Which is why I wanted to speak with you, sir." I said, swallowing nervously.49
"I see... well, what would you like to talk to me about then?" He said, his eyes seeming to pierce right through me. 50
"I came to ask for your daughter's hand in marriage." I said a little too quickly. God, I've never been so nervous before in my life.51
He said nothing for awhile and got out of his chair and looked down at the world from his window. And then he spoke...52
"You know when Alina married her first husband, I saw nothing but heartache. My daughter was insistent on marrying him and being a loving father, I could not bring myself to say no to the marriage. That was almost four years ago. I don't know if she's recovered enough from the first marriage."53
I opened my mouth to protest that I would never hurt her, but before I could say anything, he spoke first:54
"She came to me a few days ago and told me about you. To tell you the truth, I've never seen her more happier and she was bursting with joy though she was nervous because she was afraid that I would disapprove."55
With that said, he walked over and held out his hand. I took it just a little confused. 56
"If you put her happiness first, I would be more than happy to call you a son-in-law and give you my blessing." He said, smiling wide.57
I couldn't speak. I was too shocked. He chuckled and said "Son, you better close that mouth." I closed my mouth and said "Thank you, sir. I appreciate your blessing."58
"Go take the day off, Shane. You have a wedding to plan for." Clapping me on the back, he smiled and walked with me outside his office.59
Alina and I are currently engaged and we hope to have the wedding by next year August. What turned into a risk filled with danger turned into a reward without measure for both of us.

beautiful romantic tale. great write. emotion and good imagery. I enjoyed reading this

You bring out the romantic in me, man! Throughout the story, when your MC was debating on this and that, I found myself wondering about what he should do--almost as if I were him or something! The part when he's standing at Richard's door really left me with a lump in my throat...and my heart like...skipped or something when I thought Richard was cutting off the romance.
Wow! Really well done!
As is usual (call me Lady Picky), I did see a few things that you need to work on. Overall, this was a really touching story.

-
How sweet and romantic. I love how you combine old fashioned romance with some modern day touches. Great job!

I'm a major sucker for romance and this was wicked

I really liked the ending
Mostly I liked how the story flowed together.

I love this! It was so real all the way through and left me wishing for more. I picked up only 2 mistakes:
don't do this "!?!" as it makes your story less proffesional
"lasagna" should be "lasagne"
Overall, I think it is a brilliant story. It would have been great if you could make it longer and show the love between them a bit more. I really enjoyed reading it, especially the dialogue which is excellent and very real. Thank you for entering and good luck. -
Danger !!!Alert
Though i could almost feel that urging desire... pulsing though him..He sounds like quite the man
I did Like the ending; It is so often we read about the fathers who think there daughters bf are all you know up in the grill and demented.
Nice to see you know- refreshing to say in the least..
I liked it- It was different ... Different is unique

Awwwww.I looooveeeed it. It was really good and well written. I noticed a few errors that you may want to check over, nothing major though. Just some capitalizing and comma things. Like, i.e., "Cows go moo," he said. comma, quotation, lower case letter. I used to do it, like, all the time and still do sometimes.

Anyway, just thought I'd point that out and seem all judge-like. :]
