Gayla walked across the park, and towards the lake. Past the statue of Greg Hamillton and it's bench, sitting next to it, waiting for some six year old girl to sit and gaze upon the statue. She stopped quickly, just to remember how she used to sit there, and think of Greg- how he would come rescue her from her horrible step-mother and love her forever and always.1
It never happened, and Gayla grew up. She found a real boyfriend who tried to rescue her, but then he left her for another girl just a month later. When he said those words, "It's not you; it's me," she cried and ran to sit and gaze on Greg. Greg, the famous musician who died for his country. 2
As she admired Greg now, she realized that her past memories held her future. And the future held...no one knew; she had to take one step at a time. She backed up from the statue, planning on returning to her walk, but instead she bumped into a quite good looking man. "Oh, forgive me." He says. She replies, saying, "I was just too occupied remembering Greg." 3
He looks at her strangely. "You knew him?" he asks. "Only in my dreams..." He smiles and introduces himself. "My name is Greg. Hopefully, I won't just be...in your dreams?" Gayla blushed and gave her name. They started talking and she realized that this man was who she had been looking for her whole life. And it was confirmed when it started raining, and he asked if he could rescue her to his car. Gayla looked upon the statue as he hurried her towards his vehicle, and knew that her six year old self was grinning inside.
